  • Atheism leaves a man to sense, to philosophy, to natural piety, to laws, to reputation; all of which may be guides to an outward moral virtue, even if religion vanished; but religious superstition dismounts all these and erects an absolute monarchy in the minds of menFRANCIS BACON:

  • Do you know what extremists mean?

Like I said, they believe they are doing good by blowing themselves up and killing others in the process. I think 99.99999% of the world population would agree that is not a nice thing to do, and certainly not what a God would tell someone to do.

    India? They need help.

  • Suicide bombers are not doing it for God, they do it because they believe it is their destiny to send a message by blowing people up. God never asked for that, Jesus never asked for that, my pastor don't ask for that!

The true is, you are really trying to find reasons to believe by arguing so much about God. You think he is some magician waiting to catch you when you fall.

  • ummm suicide bombers are doing it for a god named allah. and thats excatly wat they think. i ask u review the case of the mass shootings in india and why they id it

  • I have read the text version of this video and all I can say is that like so many others, you seem so angry at Christianity and God.

Its like saying I didn't have a perfect father or I never knew him, and I need to be angry about it.

  • No, I'm not angry, like I've explained to you before; I'm puzzled at why rational people would believe this stuff.

  • There are many doctors who are religious or Christians, do you know why?

  • satistically speaking , religious doctors though many , are few in their profession. however u tend not to realize how many doctors there are in general. in USA i believe there are over a million doctors ( 3 per 1000 per capita), if there is 100k religious docs and the rest dont care or arent religious , would u still notice that since they wouldnt bring it up in teh first place?

  • But my question is do you know why there are many doctors out there who are religious or Christians? I don't have enough fingers to count them from my own church.

  • because they compartmentalize the religious part of their life so it doesn't have to interact with the rest of their lives.

  • If only that was so easy, no one can do that without being affect one way or the other. It is probably easier to not be religious and be incredibly stone cold about any outcomes.

  • It is that easy, and many people do it.

It has nothing to do with being a sociopath though... religious people who compartmentalize aren't stone cold by outcomes of events. They simply switch off rational critique when it comes to their beliefs.

Most people don't believe everything they're told without some shred of trust or evidence until it comes to religion. This is the compartmentalization I'm talking about.

  • Are you a doctor? If so you would know what it is like to endure the hard work of being one. I don't count watching boogie houser anywhere close to being a doctor. The fact is, it is not easy. University never teaches you what life as a doctor would be like, only the theories of it.

And compartmentalization is an excuse to not practice one's faith in religion, only when it is convenient. This is the downfall of many Christians who worship halfheartedly.

  • I am not a doctor. I fail to see the connection between the hard work being put forth by a doctor and the ability to compartmentalize religious views away from logic applied in almost every other aspect of life. Both are possible simultaneously, and it happens all the time.

Many doctors wouldn't believe a patient who came in with symptoms for ailment A when he claims he has ailment B. The doctor would rely on the evidence and treat for ailment A.

There is no evidence for the supernatural.

  • Then until it happens to you, you wouldn't understand why doctors choose religion. "Theorism" doesn't work here.

  • Until what happens to me? I'm never going to be a doctor, it's not the life I want.

  • Why are there lots of religious doctors? I'll be starting medical school in the fall, and I can tell you why I've decided to be a doctor if you'd like.

  • Why do you choose to become a doctor then?

  • Because I've seen and been hurt by seeing loved ones suffer from diseases that are largely preventable/treatable because of poor lifestyle choices (obesity, heart disease, alcoholism), and I want to encourage my patients to be proactive in their own health so that they and their families don't have to suffer.

Because I am passionate about teaching and empathize easily with others, and I want to be an educator to my patients and other doctors. Because I am curious and love learning.

  • So are you willing to be responsible for the lives of every patients that you treat?

Can you treat and save cancer patients?

Can you deal with not knowing how to save a patient? Can you handle defeat, loss and despair on a daily basis?

I can do everything that you said and not be a doctor, what separates a doctor and myself is that they have the ability to diagnose and treat the problem using medical means, I will tell you to stop eating too much, stop smoking or stop drinking.

  • Yes, yes, and yes, and once I have the education and experience, I'll be able to couple my empathy and passion with a full arsenal of medical tools and treatments. IMO, both of those are equally important in being a physician.

  • If you can live up to the expectations then the medical world will rejoice, until it becomes a reality we'll have to wait and see. Not that I'm saying that you won't become a great doctor, I had high expectations of myself when I started in my field too.

  • Yeah, back when I believed I always wondered why what God supposedly thought of me was supposed to make me feel better. My self worth was never bolstered by people telling me that God cared. I didn't want his validation, I wanted the validation of my peers.

  • You will end up looking for a reason to be validated every single time, and will probably unknowingly pass the habit to your own kids and peers. When someone praised Michael Jordan for being so good at basketball, he didn't say that it was all him, or that he needed an ego boost to be great. There was an opportunity for him to be great and he worked hard for it.

Everyone can become an MJ in life if they believed they can do better for themselves. God doesn't need you to prove anything.

  • But I don't really care what a God would think of me...

What difference would it make to me whether or not God accepted me? It wouldn't make me feel any different. I want to be accepted by my peers because I'm a social creature, and it's built into my mentality that being rejected means death.

  • Well do you care when someone who loves you think of you? Of course you do, what about people you think don't care about you still loves you unconditionally anyway? That's God. I think with your mode of thinking you must be quite young, which I can only say this, people who are insecure want the security of being part of a group who can validate their existence, and that lies the biggest problem in society today.

  • So God is like a creepy stalker girl?

    I'm 21, so yes I'm a bit young.

No, that's certainly NOT the biggest problem in society today.

  • "So God is like a creepy stalker girl?"

    ?

Do you know what "unconditionally" mean?

Actually being young shouldn't be an excuse although it is easy for any young person to feel insecure because they haven't yet reach the mental state of maturity.

And YES, I believe too many people are too hung up about themselves that they'll either shoot themselves, each other or whatever as long as someone notices them. Being insecure is exactly the reason why people hurt each other,

    it's so obvious!!

  • I don't feel insecure at all really. I'm pretty open about my thoughts and feelings because I have good friends and a great family.

Yes and the false feeling of security you get from thinking God cares about you is what drives some people to follow religious texts fundamentally.

    Religious suicide bombers anyone?

  • excelent vid. but the points u make are vaild across the board for most religions( dont knw about nature worshippers). as a former hindu i can atest to that fact.

  • Thanks slysci5. I didn't realize Hinduism is like that too. I have a hard time understanding why rational people would be attracted toward belief systems that make them slave-like, in thought and in deed, to deities that their cultures construct. I tend to think that nowadays, more people reject the belief system they were raised in than, as wordly adults, convert a new religion that imposes restrictions on their minds and actions.

  • i think i knw wat teh answer is. many persons are ocnvinced that sucess in this life can be obtained through disipline. i agree u need some measure of disipline to obtain sucess , but u also need luck , skill , intellegnce and experinence. soo this obsessiveness to obtain sucess leads them to join a belief system that causes them to self impose strict measures on themselves thus giving them the advantage they percieve that they need. in some respects this may work , at the expense of intellect

  • Thanks for this video (well, audio).
