  • Even that Christchurch was going to have the World Cup until Earthquakes damaged AMI Stadium of course Eden park now hosting the RWC 2011.Special Tribute to Christchurch.

  • The best opening ceremony Ive ever seen! Well done NZ!! :D

  • Anyone know the name of the song as the players enter the field? That dramatic music. Please

  • @MyZelda23 It is not a song but a Karanga (or Call) of which I could barely make out, "E te iwi, Ko te ihi, kei te wehi, ko te mana o nga iwi e" which basically means:

    TO THE PEOPLE GATHERED HERE,

WE HOLD THE IHI (essential force, excitement, power, charm, personal magnetism),

THE WEHI (dread, fear, something awesome),

AND THE MANA (prestige, authority, control, power, influence, status, spiritual power, charisma - mana is a supernatural force in a person) OF THIS PEOPLE AND THIS LAND.

  • @talkingoutyourbumow I agree with you on this one.

  • STFU commentators

  • The Maoriness of NZ is so unique. Too bad you don't see that with the Aborigines in Australia or even the Native Indians in USA.

  • why cant the commentators shut their mouths

  • This was extremley beautiful , word's don't even describe. I am extremley proud to be Maori it shows that our country is a sacred and beautiful place filled with culture and spirit , so to all the people who are putting us down get fucked and choke on barbie :)

  • what a weird haka

  • @6sheldon you haven't seen many haka's then, have ya?

  • @6sheldon Theres lots of different haka's through out New Zealand

  • @IG88Aiscool Possibly becasue Maori is the indigenous culture of NZ? Do you travel all the way to NZ to experience european culture?

  • I am Maori and living in Dubai, finally got around to watching the opening and there is only one word to describe it "EPIC",very proud New Zealander: )

  • I was at this ceremony, looks better on TV than at the game.

  • the haka at 8:55 IS MEANNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • makes me so proud to have black blood

  • I was actually at the opening ceremony . . . it was as good as it gets, as far as a spectacle goes. Any negative comments should be taken as written by . . . honestly, I don't know why you would. GO WALLABIES!!

  • i wish the commentators would shutup

  • @k9DaAV YES totally agree lol

  • this will be there year, cant see anyone stoping them

  • Thanks so much, to bad we can't upload match highlights!!

  • Absolutely amazing. What a riveting way to show our fabulous Maori culture. We all need to be very proud of what we have as it is unique and what New Zealand is known by. If there were no Maori, what would people think of when someone says New Zealand? Sheep?

  • exaclty bro, its what makes rugby fun, is enjoying a few beers after with your mates

  • Sooo proud to be Maori that is my fav part is the Karanga

  • This was world class from my little homeland. \m/

I'm not really that rugby obsessed but GO THE MIGHTY ALL BLACKS!! :P

  • Ikale Tahi all the way! haha

  • Powerful imagery, impressive! Congratulations on great pageantry.

  • I'm Croatian but I have to say, that you can really be proud to be from NZ! For me, Rugby is by far the best way to do sports. I'm playing Rugby too, but in Croatia there are 200 players or so.. I wish I was born in NZ or SA, so that I could see what Rugby really means to your people.. I mean this opening ceremony is better than that one at the Olympic Games.

RUGBY IS THE GAME OF THE FUTURE!

Intelligent men play Rugby, because you need your brain very hard to make a good play..

    Bye

  • @Croilir Come to NZ bro and play some rugby, you'll love it and then after come to the pub and have a beer or 12, this is a normal saturday afternoon in NZ if you play rugby

  • @87DKing Congrats for the World Cup! You really deserved it. And many thanks for your invitation, but I'm 38 now and have a family over here.. So I'm a senior hobby player. ;-)

But to have some beers with you guys would really be nice!

    All the best!

And keep on promoting Rugby all over the world!

    Bye!

  • this reminds me of my home country...Aotearoa 4 life boii

  • This is absolute fantastic!!! ....I have never seen better and more spectacular opening of ANY games, including Olympics. Hands down to visual effects, choreography and overall organization. So great!!! Complete city turned to one HUGE Welcoming Fireworks, full of joy, colors and pride of rugby lovers!!! Congratulations to people of New Zealand!

  • The official rugby channel is here, highlights, interviews, features, hits and tries. Check our channel and subscribe for more!

  • nga mihi tino nui to Mataarae, Taini wouldve been proud(: tihei mauri ora. & to all the haters kia tau te mauri.

  • i am so blessed to have been working there that night! nga mihi aroha ki Te Mataarae i Orehu, he tino ataahua to mahi i taua po. brought tears to my eyes, xxx

  • skittlesare yum...what is vuvuzelas????

  • AND also, we are playing a white mans sport BUT arent we known to be one of the BEST...........Im sorry but dont we deserve credit for that not to b put down and talked about in a bad and discriminated way.???

If only Adam & Eve didnt touch the BAD fruit than maybe there would be no NEGATIVE feed back....

Lets leave the Racism etc out of it.....no only towards Maori people but also towards EUROPEAN....we are ALL gods children!!

  • lets just stop being so narky about the whole thing, it was a beautiful opening and for all you that dont like the culture that was exposed, I am a moari prson living in australia and 100% of the australian ppl that I have spoken to about NZ only know of the moari culture and they are facinated with it....it was beatiful and I think if you dont have anything nice to say then keep it to urself. Nz land is full of Maori history ...THANKYOU

  • @maiatahiwi09 Maori sista, Maori

  • This is pretty amazing...

The most amazing thing about it is how much the presenters need to talk!!

I am seeing it with my own eyes so I don't need a running commentary of what is going on ffs, it just ruins my enjoyment of the actual spectacle!!

Some explanation, fine, such as the hammerhead motif of the event, but describing exactly what is going on? Just shut up and let us enjoy it!!

  • @MrJsnansen1980 they're just jealous! ..of a small, tiny, beautifull country.

  • this opening ceremony is the sickest thing i have ever seen!

  • wheres Celia Graham

  • Ka mate! Ka mate! Ka ora! Ka ora!

Ka mate! Ka mate! Ka ora! Ka ora!

    Tenei te tangata puhuru huru

    Nana nei i tiki mai

    Whakawhiti te ra

A upa ... ne! ka upa ... ne!

A upane kaupane whiti te ra!

    Hi!!!

  • Tumeke..That karanga is the best ive heard, big ups to Precious Clarke..Tino ataahua. Fantastic opening..Go the mighty All Blacks.

  • too much the cousin Presh! :D

  • omg the whole thing was great expects the maori bum checks gosh i thought that was gonna ruin it omg but sill all in all it was amazing

  • Quality is really really good..good job..

  • thanks mate for video

  • The Maori had vuvuzelas too?

  • @skittlesareyum48 The Pūkaea is not a plastic horn but a wooden trumpet. Of course, the Maori had trumpets as they needed to alert the people of oncoming danger, somehow? And also, the Maori are very musical people.

  • @missownz haha it was just a joke :P

  • @missownz So are the Hawaiians sistah! lol

  • @skittlesareyum48 yep funny

    @himfan1 hardout! It's a poly thing. lol

  • MissJacklyn Yeah Maori originated from hawaii , we are all 1. I'm sooooo proud to be a Young Female Maori of Aotearoa, wat a wonderful land & a wonderful world we share !

  • @MissJacklyn1 oW' Notz even oW' Maori mirgrated from Sth America, Polynesians alway saying we come from Cook Island or Tonga and Hawaii even Asia...

  • @MissJacklyn1 I believe @siroam2012 is correct on this one but we did travel from Hawaii through the islands dropping off those who could not make the journey any longer. Most of which were our respected tuakana (elders) etc. Evidence of this is in the similarities between the languages, whakapapa (genealogy), beliefs and many other things. There is a well-known proverb about Maori coming from Hawaiki nui Hawaiki roa Hawaiki pamamao - is that what you mean instead of Hawaii, MissJacklyn??

  • @siroam2012 Yes there are plenty of rumours of where Maori migrated from but they never mention the evidence we have that proves otherwise like kumara and peruperu, which originates from Peru, Sth Americas and then our genealogy and legends (beliefs) and especially the languages are very similar throughout Polynesia. The feathered headgear, facial and body tattoos and structures etc. How can they contradict the facts - it is plain to see where we came from??

  • @skittlesareyum48 Its not called vuvuzelas mate. its called an ancient flute from the ancestors.

  • @tashmanaia ae better known as Pukaea

  • @skittlesareyum48 no these meant something

  • take note all blacks thats how a haka should be done

  • Oh, shit, I'm spanish and in my country we can't enjoy of playing , in the RWC and also in the 6 nations

  • ake ake amine

  • I was there on Tv the 11 year old kid with black and white face paint holding the nz flag up.Ps if you were sitting beside I was blowing the vuvuzeala sorry i hope your not deaf yet. If your a tourist welcome to our beautiful country. Pps New Zealand is totally gonna win the Rugby World Cup. We have one it once and we are gonna win it again. what a moment. Well done New Zealand you have done us all proud. Nothing can beat this. This is a once in a life time opportunity. GO NEW ZEALAND Whooo.

  • Wish the commentators would shut the fvck up! We are not interested in their trite litlle sound bytes.

  • Comment removed

  • Shoxx bro dis is da most gunnest ceramonie NZ has eva held

  • THE SKYSPORTS NARRATION IS BETTER MORE DESCRIPTIVE AND ACTUALLY SOUNDED LIKE THEY KNEW WHAT THERE TALKING ABOUT . like if you think so

  • Rugby is becoming more profesional now. in 8 - 12yrs time country from around the world will be at there Elite level like the All Blacks, Wallabies, Springboks and England. the IRB should have a Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere World Cup. 16 team in both comps and top 10 teams from the comps, qualify for IRB Rugby World Cup the following year. Even NZL,AUS,RSA and ENG should qualify. if they don't make it... well have to wait 4yrs till then

  • @siroam2012 hopefully. I would like to see more players from the minow countries getting contracts in super rugby as well as the European top leagues. Just like in football, thats how they developed the 2nd tier countries . I think this will happen more after the 2016 Olympics.

  • @ssrabits The Rebels are able to sign 10 foreign players so we could see an influx of players from Russia, The Six Nations and The Americas. It can only be good for the Sport.

  • STOP COMPLAINING BOUT THE COMMENTATORS, THEY'RE ONLY EXPLAINING THINGS TO PEOPLE OUTSIDE NZ ..IM GLAD THERE WAS COMMENTARY

  • aotearoa, the land of the long white cloud

new zealand, nothing to do with zealand

  • I don't care what people say.. But watching the opening ceremony for NZ, makes be proud to be Maori..!

  • sold as bro

  • itll be nice the commentators just shutted the up -.-

  • Thank you so much for sharing this with everyone the Opening Ceremony was beautiful and the power of the haka I could feel it. It makes me proud to be an All Blacks fan, but it reminds me of how connected I am to my own Zulu roots. Kwaaaaaa Zuuuuullluuu! Kwaaaaaa Zuuuulllluuuu! Mad respect to the Maori!

  • Magnificent

  • Peter Jackson needed to be a part of this

  • Awesome! I love the fact that they used old with new! Definitely NZ. I am a foreigner living in NZ for over 10 years, and NZ never ceases to amaze me! Great use of culture, and to show the world your tribal roots. Cause like everywhere in the South Pacific, the culture is unique and needs to be celebrated!

  • @MrRazorz I fully agree with you on all points. We were just showing the rest of the rugby watching world what makes New Zealand what it is. What makes us a little bit different.

  • LIVE FREE RUGBY WORLD CUP MATCHES STREAMING THIS SITE NJ43.COM

  • Re sharks in the show: it may have had something to do with the fact that those hammerheads are part of the traditional symbolic decoration in Maori meeting houses.

  • OK......

a hammerhead shark (Mangopare) is also a type of maori pattern which you will find on the interior of alot of Marae. The commentator also mentions why we use them in our maori culture so if you listen you will know.

Also we all know that the pakeha are NOT the people of this land the Maori are and this is OUR culture!! Aotearoa is our home & it is famous for its CULTURE regardless of if no one is full Maori we are still the people of this land and we will never let that die!

  • Thank you for uploading!

  • This is one of the amazing yet most incredible opening ceremony i have watched .....gud work NZ

  • Beautiful! So Proud to say NZ set the bar! :D love the energy and the effects! Love to acknowledge the BEHIND the SCENES people! you guys are much appreciated!!

  • i LOVED the opening ceremony it really shows other countries who we are i'm really proud to be a Kiwi. I actually got goosebumps when i watched this on tv on my birthday .. yes The opening ceremony was on my birthday lol 09/09/2011 how awsome was that lol.

  • i can't understand why people are writing racist comments about nz which is one of the most peaceful and beautiful countries in the world.which is neutral on most of the world matters. Qasim 4rm Pakistan

  • @chapraanclub Totally agree. Thanks for that! There are more serious matters to worry about in the world and they want to make a go of it now, right here!! Some people just need to clean up their own "back yards" before judging others. Truly appauling behaviour and certainly not a good reflection on NZ. Get it together people!!! [Note: Any derogratory comments on any matters irrelevant to the RWC or this video will be removed. Please keep it clean. Thank you.]

  • @chapraanclub doesn't matter, just keyboard warriors and nothing more

  • @chapraanclub It's because they're ignorant and don't have any respect for a culture that's different than their own. I love NZ and I am a big All Blacks supporter. These are what we call E- Thugs they don't have the balls to say it to anyones face. So they do it here. Just a bunch of cowards!

  • @chapraanclub it isnt that peaceful but to some other countries mabey

  • happy to see such a good show. Makes me think of my friends from Kourou leg 1cl kiwi Jimi Crow, and don't forget CCH Kiwi Fry. Hows ya muka ya bastds. I'll think of ya. Legio Patria Nostra. From the Yank bastrd

  • the highlight of the opening ceremony was definately the karanga 'the call' in the beginning - that woman's voice & movie were out of this world & nearly bought me to tears! it really showed how spiritually connected the maori ppl are... That haka blew me away, AWESOME!

  • nice

  • Thanks so much for posting this after I missed the ceremony due to the fucking trains!

  • OMG!!

  • Ka mau te wehi! Ka tū whakahihi ahau. Congrats to the organisers for show casing the uniqueness of Aotearoa inside the fantastic graphics for us and the world to enjoy. Absolutely proud to be Māori.

  • New Zealand truly outdone themselves.

  • fabulous......without the words !!!

    W ITALIA

    W NEW ZELAND

    :-)

  • This y I hate about ESPN they don't even show rugby

  • @prophetofpeacejhn316 I feel ya.. Try Universal Sports.. NFL season has already started.. Imma Dolphins fan =) but yea Rugby is still expanding.. From next year, Argentina will join New Zealand, South Africa and Australia to make it 4-Nations.. This will be the turning point of Rugby, South America is the next target for the game and perhaps 20-30 years from now will gain popularity in the United States, I can't wait till Brazil gets the hang of the game, they are very skillfull and creative..

  • Why is this not in HD?

  • @jamester999 Sorry mate - slight overlook. It was meant to be HQ which was the best quality vid 3 days ago. Don't know about now though?! Have amended this accordingly.

  • this is like an Opening Ceremony of the Olympics ,

    PROUD to be a KIWI

  • @fruzzybro only not as long which was a GOOD thing.

  • Nek Minute........

  • @1qaz2wsx331 i was waiting for that lol

  • lol i see u seth

  • shit that was massive !

  • i also only just watched this so i could listen to tha karanga :D

  • its only been 3 days n its views is so much lol woooaaaaahhhh :D

  • Was at the Aux CBD's Viaduct watching the Eden Parks' ceremony on the big screen, honestly my mates and i were gob smacked coz we weren't expecting to see an opening this spectacular. It just goes to show that no country or island is too small to create an enormous masterpiece!!

Nga mihi mahana ki te Kai Karanga. Nau to karakia ataahua i rere ai mo ake tonu atu. Nga mihi hoki ki Te Matarae I O Rehu 'tauke' to koutou mahi. I taua wa, i piataata toku wairua me toku mana ki to koutou haka. Chur!

Mean Maori Mean!

  • The 13 dislikes are from the countries that wanted to host the world cup!

  • THATS HOW WE DO IT NEW ZEALAND MEAN AZZ

  • WOW I was at the RWC for the first match, but I didn't get to see this because it was so crowded (the tv was very side on). I see what all my friends meant. WOW.

  • very interesting how 2 cultures in 1 country live together. very nice.

  • @IxedoMastergun more than 2 mate...there's a few cultures in NZ

  • @himfan1 Some more places:

    - Wellington. The capital is always cool to visit. Make sure you visit the Beehive (Parliament building), and be sure to keep ahold of your hats, for Wellington's nickname is Windy Wellington!

    - Christchurch. Christchurch may be not much more than rubble in some parts now, but it's a plucky city (it has to be), and NZ rallies round it, giving support for the earthquake-stricken people.

    - Mt Ruapehu, the North Island's tallest mountain, is WELL worth a visit!

  • and now we're bankrupt.. :P

  • AMAZING!!!

Loved everything.... Proud to be a Maori & from Aotearoa :D

When I was watching I got chills from the call & kapa haka.

Love how the people in the stadium got to be a part of the opening with their cellphones. What a great effect it had.

    xo

  • @smiles1969able the 9 million cost will bring in more long term for the whole of NZ. NZ are lucky to be the hosts of such a large world event make the most of it - it may be 100 years before it returns again...

  • super fail by the news reporters talking through it all lol
