  • @muffyforevrz well said my friend, your comment deserves way more than 2 thumbs up.

  • so...the senate can tell kids it gets better so they can grow up and not be able to get married for the way they are. doesnt make sense

  • @emhinman They're trying. It's the ones that aren't on this video that are blocking marriage rights.

  • I'm saddened, but not surprised that not one single Republican senator contributed to this.

  • This is genuinly making me feel so much better about myself. Thank you to all who are involved in this project, it is very much appreciated x

  • So the senate is full of reprobates?

  • just a question....why the hell wasn't herb kohl in this?

  • @SoA990 Why when he'll just rig it like he did 2010?

  • They said the word "gay" too much.

  • I, too, perhaps, are similar to you, although I still like peanuts and bananas ..... human ....

  • Thank you SO much, Senators, for this. Shared on FB and Twitter.

  • Excellent.. I am sharing on Facebook..

  • It sucks that neither of my Senators wanted anything to do with this. Dean Heller not being in this is rather obvious, but why isn't Harry Reid, a member of the Democratic leadership, in this video? This and the Patriot Act incident with Rand Paul makes me kind of wish he has a strong primary in 2016.

  • Okay, I'm moving to all of these states just so I can vote for each one of these guys. I don't give a damn if they're doing this for votes or not. Anyone who will reach out to scared people who feel like they are alone has my vote.

  • Great Video...and great job. So great to see the Senators joining in for Gay Marriage. The times certainly are changing...for the better.

  • I'm really happy they put this together, but I'm really wondering where the other 87 Senators were. Jeff Merkley (D-OR)? Come on, man.

  • 26 people missed the LIKE button.

  • @GenVK Correct. Most Republicans in the United States have been swayed by the Religious Right on social issues such as homosexuality since the 1980s.

  • I am Guilty. I am THUGIN, what else can i do?

I have so much questions, i hope you have my IP- Adress.

  • I am Guilty. I am THUGIN, what else can i do?

  • As a Transgender female, I am comforted by this message. These laws should be Federal so we can change America as a whole, changing things state to state means, you get married in one state, then go to another and it isn't even recognized. We NEED to make equality country wide.

  • There's another Durbin that I think would be perfect for one of these spots...James. \m/

  • Thanks Senators. It does make one hopeful to hear this messege on our 4th of July !

  • God's Country hey? God is very specific about this, and that this is against his Law, which is above you people!

  • @kryckeestrooff God's law also says one should not lie, be quick to anger, or judge lest you be judge. The problem with using God's law as a reason is that no human can follow every law. I'm Christian and all other Christians need to understand that no one is perfect and it is our duty to bring people to Christ. I know lying is a sin, and I struggle with it, being homosexual is no more a sin then lying. God said "A sin is a sin no matter how small". We need to start remembering that.

  • Awesome video! The LGBT community needs & must have this kind of support to achieve equality in the United States and the world! Thank you to the Senators who stepped up and participated in this video! God bless all of you!

  • Cheers to the U.S. Senate! They are right....You are NOT alone!!

  • 23 people are letting ignorance lead their lives. It gets better everyone..!

  • If every individual deems that following their proclivities and desires is just "being yourself" then our society is on a great spiral downwards...Sorry for not tickling your ears.

  • Lets show North Dakota, Utah, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Florida, Ohio and New Hampshire how gays can hurt families, if we are prohibited from adopting children in these states, how is it constitutional that our tax dollars support the schools and other institutions that we will never benefit from. We're only 10% of the population but that's a hell of a lot of money in struggling school systems. Lets fight more aggressively, take the country hostage, and make demands.

  • A little bummed that there were no Republicans who took part. Does nothing but makes the GOP look bad. :/

  • Obama is the worst president in history worst even than bush in fact....

  • So... How about a federal marriage equality bill?

  • Wow, NO Republicans participated... C'mon, GOPers, do what's right

  • Amazing, a first world country finally progressing like the rest.

  • If it gets better, and you think we deserve equality and fair treatment, and you want us to feel safe and loved, why in the world is same sex marriage still illegal?

If you really cared, you would give us equal rights, not just make a video talking about how much you love us while you sit in your senate seats letting the country treat us like second class citizens unworthy of equality.

Talk doesn't do anything when your actions are drowning out the words.

  • @LexieRhi333 I'm not usually inclined to defend Democrats, but I suspect part of the reason is that they're only 13 individuals and while they might vote to, say, repeal DOMA, the rest of the Senate (and the House) might not--and even if they did, it would still leave the states to do what they liked until there was a constitutional amendment or a Supreme Court ruling on the matter.

  • @admiraljello I get what you're saying. Honestly I probably wouldn't have posted this comment if I hadn't just had a huge fight with my mom about me being Bi.

She thinks same sex marriage is wrong, and that by extension me being Bi is wrong. So I was already upset. The government does need to listen more to the needs of the LGBT community, but my earlier comment was unnecessarily harsh and accusatory.

  • @LexieRhi333 I understand your frustration. Sadly, a democratic system isn't equipped to handle the needs of a minority in the face of a hostile majority. For change to come any time soon (because old beliefs die hard), I think leadership will have to come from the courts. They're the only branch suited for this, and they were designed specifically to resist popular pressure. It took the Supreme Court to kill segregation. I think it'll take it to legalize gay marriage in ALL the states.

  • I know LGBT is just a voting bloc for Dems, I don't care. This video is very touching. it still takes guts to take a stand on this issue in most places in the United States. Thank you, Senators, all of you, for being courageous and taking your time.

  • This would have been a good time to commit to repealing DOMA!

  • Ugh, this video kind of makes me gag. As if they actually care about gay people.

Politicians -- mainly the Democrats -- only see the gay community as a voting bloc; they seek to keep us in a box, tell us we're being victimized, and then pretend to be harbingers of progress. Then when they don't deliver, they do it all again the next election cycle. And people keep falling for it.

It's all just a bunch of shameless pandering. *end rant*

  • I'm boycotting Holland (MI) until love is =" Facebook Group. By a one-vote margin after a long and sometimes emotional meeting, Holland Michigan City Council vetoed adding sexual orientation to its anti-discrimination ordinances covering housing and jobs. Please check out the group and spread the news that discrimination has no place in America society .

  • What a bunch of sorry ass losers. Hey, lowlifes, do your damn jobs.

Gay or not, we all have to eat and be able to support ourselves.

Quit pandering and playing off the people's feelings. The government can not give or guarantee equality, only education and tolerance can do that.

Gay people of this country, know, once these shills procure your vote, they'll give less than two-shits about you or your plight.

    wakie, wakie motherfakie

  • @TheComputerNazi They ARE doing their jobs. They aren't just legislators; they are also public servants and this is a public service video. The only thing you got right in your whole tirade is the fact that you are a Nazi wannabe.

  • WTF being gay is not going to be the issue that Americans will be concerned about in 3 months you clowns in the senate are incompetent ! Over the last decade you have managed to tax us more and let corporations be counted as a person. We have no confidence in you MORONS! Do your fucking job!!!!

  • @Marathonmarch taxes are a privilege

  • @sedrftgyhuiyt

Taxes are a privledge for the pentagon and every other pork project that those clowns want. But taxes are not a privledge for me or anyone else that I know

  • @Marathonmarch HUH? I don't know what this has to do with the Trevor Project or civil rights.

  • Sherrod Brown is my senator and probably one of the most genuine people I've even known to be in Congress (though granted I'm only 20). THRILLED to see that he's in this. Al Franken is pretty badass as well. Don't know much about the others, but I love how EVERY person in this video is a Democrat. Democrats = awesome. This video = awesomer. This project, this cause = awesomest. Well done, everyone! <3

  • Michell met her husband Dr Bachmann at Oral Roberts College when she was getting her law degree

Now i''m sure Michell & her husband told the 23 foster children it isnt ok to be gay & her husband calls their conduct "barbaric" & he works as a counselor to change gays

But if parents bring their child to him to be changed & they run out of money should our taxpayer dollars go to the doctor through the Medicaid Program?

  • oh ...they care now.... Nice Job Gaining Back The Respect of the Sheeple

  • This is gay

  • GO BOW TO NETAN-YAHOO! WHORES!

  • That was so beautiful. I'm tearing up so much. Wow.

  • Yea, this is the battle we should be fighting. Good thing to be gay in the future because the senate is already fucking you in the ass.

  • This video gives me hope. Everyone here hating needs to get out. You're wasting your time.

  • Waste of Public funds.

  • @Badtreewater This isn't public funds. Its made by donations from the Trevor Project. The Government didn't have to pay anything to make this video besides their time.

  • This is not a message of hope for LGBT youth. It is a message for LGB youth.

  • As great as this is, I only wish republicans would join democrats in working to make it better.

  • @EstelleduCiel Unfortunately too many Republicans and right-wing church's believe that we are evil sinners who are going to Hell and it doesn't matter to them if we are Christians or not we want to indoctrinate rather than to educate.

  • Bravo for these folks for having the guts to come forward and speak about growing tolerance and understanding... That being said, I still think they're a bunch of criminals who've sold themselves to the economic elites at the expense of the American Middle class. End the fake two party system!

  • @TheImpeacher Fail troll. 1. Nixon was essentially responsible for the AIDS outbreak since he didn't allow funding for the vaccine, considering it a 'gay virus'. And 2. Youre a total moron if you think homosexuality doesn't exist in nature. Keep trolling, bro.

  • @Streetmastaalex Homosexuality does exist in nature just like cancer does... With that said, I could give a flying fuck what gays do and I think they SHOULD be afforded the same rights, under a CIVIL UNION, as a married couple has. Marriage is between a man and a women.

  • @imax1971 Marriages come in many forms - one can be a man and a woman, two men, or two women. These preferences are based by culture; conservatives focus on heterosexual marriages while liberals focus on marriage equality.

  • @Streetmastaalex Actually, I think you ment to say Reagan was the Prez at the beginning of the AIDS outbreak,in 1981 the CDC published a report about the disease that we have come to know as AIDS and Reagan did not publicly address the outbreak until about 87' so, many years of ignoring the outbreak instead of doing something like increasing funding. Now THAT was a sin!

  • @RulaLenzka You're right about that. The Reagan era focused on AIDS as a 'gay disease' instead of a humanitarian crisis, in which many people die of HIV/AIDS due to unprotected sex. It is important that gender inequality and strict patriarchal norms, not homosexuality, that causes AIDS to thrive worldwide. Being denied information about preventing HIV/AIDS is unacceptable.

  • @TheImpeacher Yeah, Aids can be spread through heterosexual sex too. Also, it is not as if we are encouraging LGBT students to be sexual. They will be getting the same abstinence talk as the rest of the school. And animals can be gay in times of great struggle and in some species just whenever they feel like it, such as lions, penguins, dogs, cats, turtles, seagulls, etc. There are over 100 breeds.

  • @TheImpeacher

    Yeah, animals do actually.

  • I'd Like To Express My Heartfelt Gratitude To The Senators For Sending This Message Of Hope To Our GLBT Youth. By Joining Forces With The Gets Better Campaign, Trevor Project And Those Of Us Dedicated To Ending Bullying Once And For All, Youth. Know Your Video Will Go Far In Saving Lives Of GLBT and Stra8 Youth Struggling With Being The Targets Of And/Or Victims Of Senseless Bullying. I Sincerely Thanl Each Of You For This.

  • craaaaaaaaaaaaap

  • so when's the next revolution?

  • Thank you, Senators! Here is what to remember:

    1. It will always get better.

    2. You are only as alone as you choose to be. There are people willing to help you if you reach out to them.

    3. You are a strong person and will only be stronger in the end.

  • Working hard? Let me see. Where is your hard work? Can I have a picture? I see alot of spending. I see alot of debt. I don't however see alot of hard work. Can we have some proof? Your supporters keep saying we have health care, I haven't seen that either. I've seen a bill, but NO WORKS only words.

Gratz to the LGBTQ. You are now people too, because the government says so.

  • @johnocc for what.....and you know what it's not going to happen.

  • Government is not the answer to freedom, you morons!!!

  • @ConstitutionBenFrank No one cares about your negative comment on the internet. lol they're not going to read this.

  • Things MIGHT start to get better in this country when our government stops wasting money. Especially on bullshit like this video.

  • Senator Feinstein .. as a fellow San Franciscan, I applaud your continued efforts over the many years you have been in pubic service. Your many contributions are well over the top!!

  • HUGE applause to you, Senator Coons, as well as all those US Senators who participated in this great contribution to the It Gets Better campaign!! What a great message of encouragement and hope you have lavished upon the youth of this country!!

  • Great to finally see this happening.

  • This is astonishing! Thank you to our Senator Mark Udall, our former Senator, Chuck Schumer and to all who spoke! It's time NOW to make the change; give us our full equality. We have earned it, over and over. And to those Republicans who were too afraid to join this message, shame on you. Shame on you for using us to get votes. It belittles you and it belittles America.

  • make the change senate! were tired of talk.

  • I'm not a constituent of any one of you, but thank you so much for this. Even at 36 years of age, I still need to hear this from time to time.

  • Thank you for putting this video together. Please tell senator Cantwell thank you for being in it but the LGBT community of WA State will need to see some actions to reinforce her words to re-elect her and we need more than a passive bystander, we need a vocal advocate to make it better.

  • It's wonderful. Something that in Italy is inconceivable, for the words, for the partecipation of politicians, for the clearness of images and messages. Thank you.

  • These are the bravest men and women I have ever seen. We love you.

  • Comment removed

  • AWESOME ! And to all the naysayers making adverse comments, GROW UP !

  • Lots of "D-"'s following all those names.

  • I have so much respect for all you these Senators that put their careers on the line to come out in support of the LGBT community. Thank you.

  • both of the senators from new york are present here.

thank you to them, and to governor cuomo.

  • thank you Senators! True bravery for standing up for what is RIGHT!

  • @thamesavon Prove it.

  • @thamesavon Who are you trying to convince? You are clearly not going to change 99% of the people who watched this video. Go to FoxNew.com and rant there, you'll have plenty of support.

  • @thamesavon youre an idiot..

  • Marriage and the US Constitution:

    YouTube clip titled:

Ted Olson Interview With Fox News Sunday's Chris Wallace

  • "The great state of New York"

    Got that right.

  • Hmm notice which region was entirely missing from that?

  • @kane148 The Bible Belt.

  • Thanks for such a hopeful message. I look forward to see the progress you make to bring equality to my family!

  • I'm sure I'm bisexual. We deserve respect, too.

  • Thank you representatives and senators for this video. It's very inspiring!

  • I'm truly love my state and proud of Ron speaking for all us Oregonians :)

  • some truly amazing people. I have never been so inspired. ; )

  • I'm crying so hard right now D':

I love the It Gets Better campaign sooooo much

  • Bravo! For your courage to take a stand, for working towards equality, for inspiring people to move against hate and intolerance, for those who are thinking of killing themselves like many before and can see the light of hope in your message and the progress the country is making, for the REPUBLICANS who are thinking of embracing this same courage and joining the inevitable progress towards a more humane, loving, and accepting America. Thank you and Bravo!!!

  • This video is gay

  • Thank you. My young cousin has been struggling at school, because of bullies. I'll show him this and let him know that there are brave people like you, fighting for his rights, his freedom. Thank you again.

  • outstanding - room for hope for all people

  • A good video, but still too pussy. There's no shame to show a "D" next to "Senator". Obama might be a weak-ass, but there's no reason for you to be as well.

  • Way to really step up for equality, Republican Senators. >:-(

  • @AboveAllNations the republican senators should be the ones not giving up xD

  • However well intentioned, I'm uncomfortable listening to straight people give young people prefab advice about something of which they have absolutely no experience.

Note how they all speak in vague, safe generalities and say nothing personal whatsoever. This campaign should be about sharing personal experience, not the easy platitudes of professional talking heads looking to score election points.

Kids will mistrust this, and rightly so.

  • @BloodOfTheLamb1: Just feel uncomfortable for a while, that's part of your progress. Whether gay or straight, equality is a universal necessity. This message is great. Kids will hopefully feel more accepted, I wish I had heard such a message when I was feeling totally isolated as a gay boy who could not get to terms with my own feelings (I'm now 62 yo). Thanks for this message.

  • @BloodOfTheLamb1 This is a message of hope. There are gay kids who live in fear of rejection, abandonment, physical and emotional pain. The message from these Senators will give those kids hope, because they know that there are people, such as these straight Senates, who will not reject them for being different.

  • @BloodOfTheLamb1 Most people feel this is a good ammount of rallied support. Its nice to see people in the government speak up for the LGBT community. They cannot share their experiences, but it doesn't mean they don't care. It is not as if I would want them to lie to try to make me feel better, or try to relate something they have went through to it. They are supporting, and that means a lot.

  • Thank you.

  • yayyy :)

  • Where are the Republicans in this video?

  • @Whiteboymdew apparently no Republicans were asked to participate, according to CNN. I have a problem with that, as it sounds like political point-scoring. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't think many, if any, Republicans would have joined in, but they should have been asked (and, if they declined, well - then - score all the points you want with their positively-asserted bigotry).

  • @clanoreilly

Th Republicans can always do one, even if it's after the democrats. Think they will?

  • EXCELLENT!!! BRAVO! BRAVO!

  • It is very easy for any of us that have fought the fight to critize those that chose not to participate in this video but by doing this we miss the importance of the message. We must stay on focus and support the LGBTQ youth who are struggling with their fears and pain. Hearing any of the politicians, stars, educators, or just the person next door saying that life gets better would have meant a hell of a lot to me when I was just coming out.

  • This means SO much more than a baseball team or Lady Gaga making a video. These are the people who can actually get us equality and to know their support is amazing.

To all Republicans: Please follow the example set by your peers in the New York State Senate and stand for what is right and fair. It was your party that freed the slaves and gave women the right to vote. Please stand once again on the side of progress.

  • No republicans. No surprise.

  • Simply amazing. This is what young people need to hear, you have to give them hope.

  • Democrats fucking rock...

  • Thank you for making this video of hope for LGBTQ kids folks. :-)

  • Thank you Senate Dems....My party rocks.

  • As an American, AIDS physician and long term LGBTQI ally... Thank you!

Sharing with my just out nephew today!

  • About time.

  • As a young gay girl who someday wants to be in the United State Senate, I say: thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

  • @meehee45 there may be a young gay woman in the Senate next year. Go Tammy Baldwin!

  • Share the love.

    Thank you. <3

  • : Thank You to our Democratic Leaders.

  • <3

  • AWESOME! Thank you so much for adding your voice to this wonderful endeavour!

  • BRAVO!!!

  • "...a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them..."..."We hold these truths to be self-evident , that all men are created equal"..."Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness"...For those who don't know these words are pulled from the Declaration of Independence, July 1, 1776. 235 years ago their light shone as a beacon calling people to put aside petty differences for a just cause. What must they think now?

  • I wish my Senators had participated in this wonderful video.

  • I'm so proud to see my Senator, Al Franken, in this video!

  • No Republicans because Republicans are intolerant and have no clue that when you mix religion and government, you end up with something like the Taliban, whether it's Christianity or Islam.

  • Dianne Feinstein <3 Kristen Gillibrand <3 LOVE ALL THESE PEOPLE!!!

  • Where are the REPUBLICANS? John McCain and John Kyl, my US Senators, where are you?

  • No Republicans in this video. Shame on them.

  • Thank you so much!!!! I'm a 21 year old lesbian living in Alabama, and I fear being open about my sexual orientation here. I really hope this message gets to the south.

  • @drummerchick435 Get the heck out of Alabama!!! :-) Good luck drummerchick...

  • Thanks for stepping up. I work with kids in Middle School who are bullied and/or conflicted. We need to create a world where all people are free to be who they are.

  • every single one them is a democrat.....what a surprise republicans still don't care about gay people or children

  • @pierceys234

I know this is just anecdotal evidence, but I have quite a few friends who identify as republican and completely support gay rights. :) Minds are changing -- regardless of political affiliation. It's just going to take some time and education.
