Not to consider yourself unworthy of life like Christianity promotes. That makes you a product to that. Putting it straight up is much more real.

The upside down cross is related with Satanism, yet there are plenty of black metal bands who don't refer to Satanism in their songs. Immortal is one, though I have seen pictures of them sporting upside down crosses.

Saying that black metal automatically requires all crosses to be reversed is ridiculous. You simply can't define something by the norm since there is an exception to every single rule out there.
