  • I am with you girls. I really do want to believe in something whole-heartedly, but it seems the more learn, the less this is possible.

  • By the way, believe is a word that was used almost exclusive by religions. It is a word that is based on faith. Another word created by religious zealots. This means that they do not know or not know.

  • You also, assuming a denial of the Red Sea narrative, would have to explain exactly how Jews were freed from slavery in Egypt and exist to this very day. There is no question that miracles are used as a theistic verification in the Bible. Assuming that position, why wouldn't it? You're assuming an empiricist POV at the outset & so end up self-verifying what you already believe by discounting what doesn't fit with your view. The Bible is to be taken at face value. Not as selectively relevant.

  • @Sage80 A geography and history lesson is needed here. The Red Sea is prone to recession during times of drought. It is also a victim of this thing called gravity (moon, tides. . .). There is every conceivable possibility that the "parting" of the sea was something someone knew was going to happen (remember the incredible record keeping the Jewish people have). i'M JUST SAYING.

  • No offense, but your bias isn't allowing you to approach Biblical texts in an exegetically reasonable way. I think Moses was aware that people don't normally turn to salt or have their staffs turn to snakes. Please don't assume how literally something should be taken when your knowledge of it is so clearly lacking. You should approach it with more humility. The accounts of miracles in the Bible are described as just that. not norms. If an omnipotent God exists, parting seas wouldn'tbe difficult.

  • What about science? Should science matter?

  • Being inconsistent allows for wondering spiritually and you never have a concrete cornerstone belief system to rely on. God says in (James 3:16-18) For where envy and self seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing will be there. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. God will help u

  • I think as time goes on people have more things in their life, so religion has become less of a focus. But having said that, i have about 80 or so friends for who, religion is the most important thing in their life. Their entire lives revolve around god. So for many people it is still a massive part of their life, But it is just less obvious once you leave school or your family and are not surrounded by religion all the time.

  • @engelteir I think people universalize their own experience. Religion is a huge factor in the world, and is a huge part of people's lives. It just so happens that agnostics tend to be exclusionary and not have people of faith in their lives, so they convince themselves of an assumption that they somehow don't exist in significant numbers. Look at the data. they do.

  • @Sage80 Agnostics are not exclusionary. That is like saying all New Yorkers are rude, or that all Parisians are aloof. Your choice to be ignorant is incredible, and sad.
