I'm not "upper class" or considered "tasteful", but I love Bach's work, especially this piece. I believe true love of music, and understanding music, is not being able to perceive or hear it a certain way, but to feel the beauty and energy of every single note as it entires your body.
People "love" their groups genre of music, but only because it is the music that people in their social group listens to. One should love music whos notes speak to ones heart, no matter the genre.
@Ranmyakuexe indeed, genres become imprisonments soon after they fulfill a cataloger's need. Consider that these suites' movements come from not just one country in Europe, but many countries including what could be found in the new world. No suite has a set of movements from just one country, it is a shared effort that defies petty pride over styles.
Don't really know anything about this type of music. Don't know anything in fact. But I love it. I always sit on my PC and just click on random videos and listen. Close my eyes and just listen. Feel it. I like the Cello a lot. It seems so... dark to me... so... sad.. maybe? I don't know. As I said, don't know diddly squat about this. Still love it though...

i am very please to see that he is usings bachs original scordatura. when i played this i played it with the scordatura and wouldnt have done it any other way, the down tuning just makes the chords so much more powerful.
TialysAragos is right. Watch is fingerings for the cord- I've played both tunings for the piece, and he would be using first and fourth fingers for the initial cord if he was doing Bach's scordatura.
Maisky plays harder than the Ol' Rostro. Rostro's playing technique is... Much gentle...? It isn't the best wort for it after all... Er, the two cellist defy the comparison, they are as different as earth and sky. ^_^ But there are a few words to describe both cellist: Unquestionably professional masters of cello.
The beautiest Suite from the Bach's Suites, don't u think? Maisky too is the best of all the cellists of the world. I like him mor than Rostropovich!!! Yup!!!
I would have to agree, and while Rostropovitch was, and IS awesome, handel captures the emotion in his movements that I believe that Bach was feeling when he wrote each piece ....
Although, I still live the Prelude (No. 1 for those of you that dont understand) the most.
@IshootURface I CONCUR TO THE FULLEST. I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW CAN PEOPLE NOT LIKE THIS. I FEEL THAT THIS IS THE BEST OUT OF ALL OF THE 6. I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THIS SUITE GOING ON 2 YEARS TO MAKE IT SOUND PHENOMENAL AND IT IS KICKING MY BUTT. BACH WAS REALLY FEELING SOMETHING WHEN HE WROTE THIS SUITE. WOULD YOU NOT CONCUR?
Of course there's no dislikes on this video. It's amazing xD

@kweencessX i agree, it can sound very sad, but there's a certain macabre beauty to it, don't you think?
it can sound very happy though in some cases, try cello suite no.1 prelude

@ORattleheadO sadness can be beautiful. sadness is a part of life, life is beautiful and art is where humanity, beauty and life meet.

I can't believe that out of all 6 suites, this has to be the one with the lowest amount of views...
cello4ever 5 years ago
It's probably because it isn't a well known piece like Cello Suite No.1 but I agree with you even if it isn't my absoulute favorite by Bach.

It#s in Eflat - thats why lol!
cellodiva2007 4 years ago
Can't believe I said that ! haha. Yes, C minor. It just reminds of my lessons at Chets... yawn. Now the E Flat ones are actually VERY hard

That is what you call stretch right?
It can be really awful when you do it for long.
But I would like to know where the video come from.
