No Black female artist could come close to this... Betty lived in a time where you couls hang out with JB, Sly and Hendrix to name but a few... Black artists today like Puffy, Jay Z, Beyonce know how to make money and product... back then they made money from seriously raw talent...different times
If her albums are being re released, she should be getting royalties, no? If not, why not ??!!!!! ( I just went to eBay and bought em on CD and vinyl, so I hope so !!!)
You know, I am a huge fan of death metal as well as Funk but if she wanted to she could've sooo been a death metal growl singer. I think she has the ability to reach that low octave by how she growls in her music.
The band was called Funk House. They played behind Betty, who is Miles Davis ex-wife. Carlos Morales on guitar, Larry Johnson on bass, Nicky Neal on drums and Fred Mills on clavinet. They are all from North Carolina
Beyonce is incapable of getting anywhere near this. This takes real life and soul, not imitation and millions of dollars. Betty Davis can do no wrong.
man i know the album cover artwork, I've had the the records for years, where's the live shit at?? I wanna see the funk diva in raw and sweaty mode - any links?
thanks funk and roll...this video introduced me to the great Betty Davis....since seeing this video I've been crazy about this woman....I've got all her albums too!!
can u help me figure out a song. i dont know the name but the end of the chorus goes something like "U HAVE TO GO ON THE RED LIGHT" OR SOMETHING SIMILAR TO THAT. PLEASE HELP ME I ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO HAVE THAT SONG...
Now, This is the funky shit that these young whippersnappers need to be learning from. Get rid of these so called amaducers(not producers), and bring the real funk with real instruments and feelin'.
this is what i was hoping for from Alicia Keys. How fuckin hot and dirty is this!? more energy than anything out at the moment. Betty DAvis is a force of nature!
The first two albums have been just re-issued on CD, with remastered sound, extra songs, and great booklets with photos and interviews with Betty. Go to lightinthe attic(dot)com to check them out! The great third album, where this is from, called "Nasty Gal", is available in 'unofficial' form as a CD from Europe right now.
Check out the new sequel video to "Betty Davis- F.U.N.K. (Part 2)" with more of the history of Funk: "YVONNE FAIR -FUNKY MUSIC SHO' NUFF TURNS ME ON (1975)"! Just click my name...
Wow! Some folks at prince-dot-org clued me in about Betty. Now that I've heard her, I've gotta check out her albums! Thanks for posting the video. :-)
Be sure to check out the NEWvideo, "HE WAS A BIG FREAK", too! It seems to be escaping YouTube's radar and isn't appearing with the other Betty videos. Hit "More from this user" to your right and scroll down...
I pray that Betty gets the money from the reissues, industry insiders say her financial state is not the greatest, and as you can see like most creative artists aren't compensated at all for what was done, because she was ahead of her time SHOO not even MILES could handle her lol ...I remember my parents having this album but never heard her until now 31 years later wow
And of course your song would be on the one of her three albums (Nasty Gal, the one with which I am most familiar) that is NOT being reissued, making it hurt that much more. Thanks for nothing.
Don't worry, reissues tend to come in waves. They'll probably phase in the third and fourth albums after the first two. (I'm a record industry vet.) All of us should snatch the first two to prove Betty's huge fan base!
Ultra funky, ultra cool, Betty stratles funk and the blues. I would call this song minalist funk. She found her groove and worked it. Betty was a classic funk artist. I once saw a guy wearing a Betty Davis t-shirt and looked all over town to try and find one. He told me he purchased his in New York. Maybe the east coast loves Betty more than the west coast. Funky is as funky do. There was only one Betty Davis, if you don't believe me, you better ask somebody.
Suddenly i feel like shakin a tail feather...oooh!

A brick house is a "thick" or voluptuous woman--one of the few things Betty Davis is most certainly not!
She is the sh*t, though. No question.
