my ultimate sonic youth song, simply beautiful melodies, swirling around with perfect reverb & delay, combined with kim's unique voice, and unorthodox, unconventional lyric content ! sonic at there best !
I always forget about this song and then it comes up on my Ipod and I end up playing it 20 times in a row and end up on the verge of tears, especially at the ending for some reason.
there are no better or worst SY albums. Each and every one are great and have their own personality. And i loved them since EVOL, since 86 a long long time.
Best song ever made, and I have most their albums. If anyone is interested check out some Terry Reid if you like the emotional feel type music, just saying. But SY forever, seen them in St. Louis perform under the arch in 2009, it was amazing to see a band you followed since a teen (discovered in 1992 watching 120 minutes on MTV lol age 16) to finally see live!
This song's from the first album I heard by Sonic Youth. And I heard it by accident, too. I meant to borrow Airbag/How Am I Driving? by Radiohead, but inside the cover was the CD Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star. Thank you, library, for screwing up and showing me this awesome band.
@lorddorwin this was the SY album that got me into them this album was given to me by my older sister but the 1st album i bought to collect their albums was Dirty from 1992
@lorddorwin According to their fans on the official website forum, the albums from the 90's rank very low. I however, being a teenager in the mid-ninties rank 'Washing Machine' and 'Experimental...' as my all-time favorites. When I was in 9th grade (1996?) I traded my friend my copy of Dr. Dre 'The Chronic' for 'Experimental Jet Set' - it was my first of many SY albums.
I'll never forget the first time I really listened to this song. Spring break, took off for NYC alone without telling my parents. Bought this CD for a dollar in the basement of a thrift store in the lowest east side. My last day in the city I started listening to it, and this song came on as I was leaving. One of the most defining moments in my life to date.
I'm a big SY fan, since '90, and have most their music and honestly in my opinion this is the best song they've made. If you disagree, then at least you must agree their prettiest, this or Diamond Sea. Just crank it 3:40 and onward and be at ease.....look it's changing........
Whoa this is.. I mean.. WHOOAAA! Time and again. <3 <3 It really is one of the most beautiful SY songs and it makes me wanna cry, too, even though many don't seem to share this feeling as regards this song. Maybe it's just cos it's mostly calm and somehow gentle? Anyway, I love it and I'd love to understand those closing lyrics. Can't quite get "the" meaning, or any meaning in fact: "Look it's changing colors, it's bigger than a hose/rose/horse/??" Whatever that means.^^ Amazing!
this always reminds me of being on a plane when i was 19, going to a town i had never been to and feeling alone, sad, but really "grown up" for the first time..haha

Probably the most underrated album made by Sonic Youth, that's the final track, inspired by a road movie never done, and the Kim Gordon's teenager diaries...Every time I listen this song in my car I feel alone and I want to cry.
