Buck Owens made his mark in country music, and made it very well! Mr. Don's Guitar playing - and voice, (I think) inspired Mr. Owens and Mr. Yoakam! Now, This is the kind of country honky tonk I like! Hey, Got a quarter for the juke box ? I wish some of the newer artist would re-visit this type of country music!! I bet that you Bakersfield Folks Enjoy This! I Do! Thanks!
Great song and lyrics by Buck Owens; great steel pedal. The 60's were the Golden Age of Country & the Golden Age of movies. A shout-out for this post and for Turner Classic Movies.
Buck Owens was an Original; A voice I just love. And his songwriting had so much feeling, I could cry as if I was the one being hurt. What a great musician he was. Never will be replaced.
One of the great Buck recordings. I was a teenager in the 60s and couldn't wait for the next Buck Owens LP. Buck and the music from Bakersfield was setting the trend and making history. I still have all that vinyl.
I grew up near Bakersfield. Got to see Buck Owens and the Buckaroos a few times. Merle Haggard 5 or 6 times and many more. The sixties were amazing in Bakersfield! Anyone remember the Buck Owens Toys For Tots Shows? I went to all of them. Some of the best of Merle Haggard and The Strangers. Jimmy Dean, and so many others played there.
It was a very sad day when Don got killed. Still makes me sad to this day. Kinda like the day the music died.
Didn't like Dwight's CD at first but like becoming a Scotch drinker it's an acquired taste that gets better with listening.God Bless Dwight for keepin' Buck goin'.Would loved to have seen Buck and Don back in the '60's with their silver sparkle Teles twangin'.
I have to agree with you on the Dwight Sings Buck CD. What makes that album so good is that he did not try to copy Buck's sound but he made it his own, his version of Close up the Honky Tonks sent chills down my spine.
@torchwoodjackharknes You´re so right there, and thats why Dwight Yoakam is such a great artist, I´m a huge fan of both Buck and Dwight. I wish Dwight would perform in Denmark some day, it could be freaking hilarious:-DDDDD
Siruis radio has "Willie's Place" channel, that plays nothin' but Texas swing and honky-tonk.....from all decades. I like Johnny Paycheck's version, played there, it is a lot less twang and less whine. It has not been posted here apparently.
Buck Owens and Don Rich were the Greatest singing duo in country music history. When Don died in 1974 that is the day that the Music died.....Till my fellow Kentuckian, Dwight Yoakam helped Buck reignited the fire again.
Others like Justin Trevino and Jake Hooker are doing damn good with real country now days, but radio now days want to play HIP country not REAL country.
What a shame. This can be copied but never replaced.
this is the kinda of country that we all need back....George Jones is right when he say they need to give all the new singers there own name cuz there not true country..this is real country
This is my second favorite Tom Brumley masterpiece. #1 is In The Palm Of Your Hand, and #3 is Together Again. ( Can't all be #1 at the same time!)
