It's a good video and very educational. However, it's very hard to understand at times because of the microphone; it gets a bit static-y.

I strongly disagree with the conclusion reached by the video's author for the simple fact that he/she is not Magneto. Being Magneto means not worrying about the different materials comprising an object because all the Master of Magnetism need do is INCREASE the field strength and apply it accordingly using his imagination. It's basically being a sentient magnet generating high levels of Tesla and projecting your consciousness through the fields you generate to make the required corrections.

in the films Magnetos power seems to be metal manipulation (and to be able to levitate it). In the comics it's complete control control over the electromagnetic spectrum (but he just happens to use magnetic fields the most)

Hell, even Wolverine has managed to land a potentially fatal blow on Magneto, and he's one of the most vulnerable to Mags. There's a reason you typically have Magneto vs. the *entire* X-Men roster. It's classic comic book storytelling, as well. The primary enemy of a superhero group has to be so ungodly redonkalously powerful that characters must cooperate to defeat him.

The movies made Magneto laughably weak compared to his comic book self. He can control all four fundamental forces of the universe because of the relationship between electromagnetism and the other three forces, using that power to--among other things--create wormholes, block nuclear explosions, and even defeat Phoenix.

@Rossthatguyoverthere I think you're confusing electromagnets with the electromagnetic force. If Magneto were made of metal and did what you described, he'd be an electromagnet and, indeed, would fill the air with so much charge that he'd kill everything around him.

However, magnetic fields, electricity, light, heat, etc. are all examples of the electromagnetic force at work. The folks at Marvel have made it very clear that Magneto wields electromagnetism. This gives him near limitless power.

Well established in the comics, Magnito can move ferorus metals by thinking. Diagmagnetic matirials were troublesome. Harder to explain is throwing tons arround without himself being thrown in opposite directions. Also established, he had ability to affect all 4 fundamental forces & some forms of energy (but magnitsum was his main skill). Presumable he can compensate for Newton's 3rd law. A learned skill, not an included autonomic reflex. In his early years, he did get thrown arround.

I dare say that he isn't levitating the bridge, but lifting it using a magnetic field, that attracts the ferrous metal of steel that the bridge is made of. So he rather lifts the bridge than levitate it.

Think of it as a big electro magnet at a scrapheap, used to pick up large metalic objects and moving them that way. This is the same idea, you just can't see the magnet since it's a magnetic field instead of an actual magnet.

You take all this time to point out the capabilities of diamagnetism (which I salute, these are true facts) but miss the obvious fact that Magneto controls ferrous metals, such as steel, which the bridge is made out of. In fact, Magneto from the movies ONLY controls ferrous metals, but in the comics he has complete control over the electromagnetic spectrum, which allows for a heck of a lot.
