I strongly disagree with the conclusion reached by the video's author for the simple fact that he/she is not Magneto. Being Magneto means not worrying about the different materials comprising an object because all the Master of Magnetism need do is INCREASE the field strength and apply it accordingly using his imagination. It's basically being a sentient magnet generating high levels of Tesla and projecting your consciousness through the fields you generate to make the required corrections.
Earth-616 Magneto's power is limited only by his human physiology, imagination, and the Electromagnetic Force's application. The applications, however, are virtually limitless because our perception of reality is governed by the EMF (not gravity) and our Universe is apparently fueled by electricity as the stars themselves are huge spheres of plasma (the very stuff of lightning) and astronomers recently detected a lightning bolt in space equal to a trillion Earth bolts.
Magneto, according to Earth-616 Marvel canon, is able to manipulate the entire Electromagnetic Force but his primary form of power is magnetism. Magnetism alone is a formidable force, depending on how much tesla one can generate. At 2 T, a magnetic field can pinch human skin painfully due to our body water's diamagnetism. Magneto can effortlessly generate 200 T. What is the magnetic field needed to lift a 30,000-ton Typhoon-class sub with the water pressure effectively making it 50,000 tons?
in the films Magnetos power seems to be metal manipulation (and to be able to levitate it). In the comics it's complete control control over the electromagnetic spectrum (but he just happens to use magnetic fields the most)
OMG. Okay, I don't watch X-Men, but I'm wondering why this Magneto guy tore the Golden Gate Bridge apart. He probably killed dozens of people in doing that.
@tudorjason He didn't tear it apart, just from it's supports. He then levitated it over to an island so that his mutant army could cross over to it and destroy the facility where they're making the "cure" for Mutants and kill the mutant that was the source for said "cure".
@sameshitdifday I didn't say Storm *always* had her ass handed to her by Mags, just in the vast majority of their encounters. Hell, even Wolverine has managed to land a potentially fatal blow on Magneto, and he's one of the most vulnerable to Mags. There's a reason you typically have Magneto vs. the *entire* X-Men roster. It's classic comic book storytelling, as well. The primary enemy of a superhero group has to be so ungodly redonkalously powerful that characters must cooperate to defeat him.
@sameshitdifday Again, I'll refer to the comics. Magneto defeated Phoenix by essentially shutting her off. I think that was during Claremont's era way back in the day, actually.
@sameshitdifday I will rest upon the comics, in which Storm has had her ass handed to her many, many times by ol' Mags, most of the time with very little effort on his part.
omg you tool magneto doesnt controll electromagnetism he can manipulate magnetic fields around objects changing the polarity and strength of the objects field like for instance in theis video it shows him levitating the golden gate bridge this is done by changing the neutral polarity of the metals magnetic field to possitive like the earths field within that part of the world and increasing the strength of the field thus levitation occurs
@Rossthatguyoverthere Incorrect. Marvel comics have clearly and repeatedly stated that Magneto's power is control of the electromagnetic force. Noxgta is absolutely correct.
The movies made Magneto laughably weak compared to his comic book self. He can control all four fundamental forces of the universe because of the relationship between electromagnetism and the other three forces, using that power to--among other things--create wormholes, block nuclear explosions, and even defeat Phoenix.
@ursamajour he does not controll electromagnetism because that would state that he would have to create a massive current of electricity form his body which even being a mutant of his calibur would be unable to control thus meaning that anyone to touch or come within 5-600 meters of him would instantly fry due to the massive amounts of electricity required to move such an object as a bridge and meaning if he is able to due to expel excess energy created when not moving such an object all near
@ursamajour him would inadvertantly be vaporised due to the electro currents in the air around him because of the massive expelsion of electricity thus meaning he would not be able to control the electromagnetism of anything thus why he controlls magnetism not electromagnetism but being able to controll magnetism is a different story because he would be able to manipulate his own magnetic field making it stronger or weaker and directing it in small lines to objects and expanding them around it
@Rossthatguyoverthere I think you're confusing electromagnets with the electromagnetic force. If Magneto were made of metal and did what you described, he'd be an electromagnet and, indeed, would fill the air with so much charge that he'd kill everything around him.
However, magnetic fields, electricity, light, heat, etc. are all examples of the electromagnetic force at work. The folks at Marvel have made it very clear that Magneto wields electromagnetism. This gives him near limitless power.
I don't think whoever made this video understands the difference between magnetism, and electromagnetism, which is one of the 4 fundamental forces of the universe. Magneto has near complete control over electromagnetism, and therefore can manipulate any type of energy from light to the weak electric current in the human body.
I can't understand the point of this video, I mean, it's a movie, right? Why do you have to put science facts in it. Again, it's a movie made for entertainment and not some kind of things that you should discover many things behind it or what. Don't put yourself in the midst of a difficult level just trying to prove whether Magneto can do it or not. Just my opinion, no offense.
like Obi wan said in the first star wars film... Who's the more foolish, the fool, or the fool who follows him?" haha... I said who's the more foolish... he or u guys who care about what he said in the video... lol
The Mighty Magneto not only controls magnetic fields but if you listen to him in this movie and the others, he can control metal, like Storm can control the weather.
it's a movie. and the mere fact that he can create magnetic fields means that he can make it as weak or as strong as he wants in any shape or form. so yeah. he could do it. just because YOU can't use magnets to lift the bridge, you're saying he cant. but he's a fictional character with SUPERPOWERS, you're not. duh.
I think that it's possible considering that the core of our planet is composed of electromagnetic waves. This same concept has been proposed as UFOs traveling at super sonic speeds by utilizing electromagnetic waves to surpressed their own weight without any problems at all.
Actually the core of the planet is molten iron spinning at great velocity, thus creating an electromagnetic field, which Magneto can manipulate. so yes, he could levitate the Golden Gate Bridge simply by infusing it with a repelling magnetic charge to the earth's core, thus making it be propelled upward by gravity.
Well established in the comics, Magnito can move ferorus metals by thinking. Diagmagnetic matirials were troublesome. Harder to explain is throwing tons arround without himself being thrown in opposite directions. Also established, he had ability to affect all 4 fundamental forces & some forms of energy (but magnitsum was his main skill). Presumable he can compensate for Newton's 3rd law. A learned skill, not an included autonomic reflex. In his early years, he did get thrown arround.
You're mixing up levitation (via diagmagnetic repulsion) with pulling something up in the air (via magnetic attraction). Magneto didn't levitate the bridge, he used a magnetic field to pull the bridge into the air and sideways. Ya jackass.
u r silly, of course magneto could move the golden gate bridge because it is made of steel, a ferorus metal, which is magnetic and he is the master of magnetism; he can manipulate any magnetic metal in any way he wishes, but his power is mainly centred around the electro magnetic spectrum. His equivalent of lifting the bridge is a humans equivalent of working out so much that they could physically lift it, that is how powerful magneto is.
couldn't he have just let jean do it. at the end of the movie she was lifting up tons of ocean water, while destroying tons of other stuff with no difficulty
maybe he uses an invisible energy, different from the electromagnetic force. nothing is impossible as long as we do not have an entire knowledge of the universe, of the matter and its rules. sorry for my english but Magnéto "could" do it. so, keep dreaming one day you could be able to throw energy beams from your eyes, carry a tank with one hand or create a tornado if you are pissed.
I dare say that he isn't levitating the bridge, but lifting it using a magnetic field, that attracts the ferrous metal of steel that the bridge is made of. So he rather lifts the bridge than levitate it.
Think of it as a big electro magnet at a scrapheap, used to pick up large metalic objects and moving them that way. This is the same idea, you just can't see the magnet since it's a magnetic field instead of an actual magnet.
This is not cool... I was that frog and it was very humiliating and anyway mate and just so all you lot know: MAGNETO ISN'T REAL, ITS A HOAX HE NEVER REALLY DID ANY OF THAT STUFF SO YOU'VE ALL BEEN LIED TO AND BELIEVED IT YOU FOOLS.
You take all this time to point out the capabilities of diamagnetism (which I salute, these are true facts) but miss the obvious fact that Magneto controls ferrous metals, such as steel, which the bridge is made out of. In fact, Magneto from the movies ONLY controls ferrous metals, but in the comics he has complete control over the electromagnetic spectrum, which allows for a heck of a lot.
Sorry man, but you seemed to let that slip passed you and that makes this video null and void. =/
you can make a UFO with the same phisics its a coil of wire with a strong current put through it which can make it hover above the ground the wires start to glow from the heat of the electric traveling through it thats why people say they have seen lights in the sky from UFO's how do you no if its alian if I no how to make one?
2 who ever is talking in this vid. the bridge is made of steel, steel is a metal that can attract to magnets, magneto can create magnetic fields to attract or repel as strong as he wants (there is no limit), even thought it would take alot since his magnetic power is unlimited he CAN do it. u use science 2 denounce his power but since mutants r above science your claim is null and void. in all sorry but science still isnt fun especially if we humans cant do this at will like the mutants of x men
uh, did you actually use simple logic and brain power. if something can be attracted to a magnets it dosnt matter how big it is it there is a strong enough pull it will come to the magnet. the task is to make a strong enough magnetic attraction, wich humans might not be able to do but magneto can.
what difference does it make you ask, well what was this vieo (that you watched and commented on) about? thats the difference
either himself, or hes not attracting it to anything
example
if he wants to life the bridge, he would make a magnetic field strong enough to do so under the bridge, move it left? create a field strong enough to repel it on the right side and so on
I don't think he's attracting the bridge to himself, he would just stick to the bridge like a magnet to my fridge, being much lighter than the bridge and all... but I suppose the second possibility sounds more likely
omg i wanna thank u so much this lil video help me so much in a last min project u helped me pass my physics classs... my homie said thanks to and if u ever need someone to suck ur dick hell do it
Funny you say that to the guys who probably outwit you in science. um, yes, we are aware of the fact that magneto isn't real. Most people are, dumbass.
They're just trying to find out "IF" someone like Magneto existed, using his powers, could you move the golden gate bridge?
shut up magneto is good but X3 was only OK and its a film so who cares how they do it. explain why spiderman could or could not shoot web out his wrists
I'm sure he could come up with the second idea if he had to. I mean he's an expert with his powers and a genius in various fields of science. He also has control over all magnetic properties so he could create as many different magnetic fields needed to accomplish this.
he is able to create magnetic fields, (which can go to an unimaginable power, there isn't even a limit), to control metal (iron steel etc) and can also produce electrictiy. So although it was a good idea to look into it, the possibilities to do it in life are impossible, but if anyone in real life had the powers of magneto, then it would be possible
Magneto is not bound by such stuff! He just creates magnetic fields around the bridge and lifts it off. It doesn't matter if it's steel, he can do it. He's magneto :P
Shit, Magneto can manipulate the whole spectrum of Electromagnetic energies and radiation, from bending light to become invisible to bending gravitons to create a stable wormhole through which he could travel... but his specialty is metal stuff xD
it is possible magneto to do it because he can manipulate every type of metal in molecular level if he focus enough( in the space he can even manipulate earth, risking his life of course).
This Video Is Stupid...Magneto is An Omega Mutant....Magneto can Manipulate Magnetic Fields...And can lift Steel...Whatever the material as long as it's metal...All the same....As long as it's Metal....And for those who don't know what omega is...Look it up...The Dark Phoenix could have easily done this...She can manipulate anything at a Molecular level...
You give no argument why he can't list it. You just state he can't because it isn't clear. You can't say you can't travel closely at the speed of light because you have never done it.
sciencemadefun Scientists say everything in the Universe is bound by the laws of Physics. However that statement is a theory and not fully true, the Universe is vastly huged and unknown to man. Meaning that their could be things in the Universe that defy the laws of Physics set by Scientists. Magneto's power could have been magnified by the water below the bridge giving him the extra power needed to lift it.
Everything, i reiterate everything in the Universe is bound by the laws of Physics. Superman has his powers because of the difference between Krypton and Earth. All superheros have their power because of science, The Hulk because of the nanomedes, Spiderman because of the spider's bite. The relationship between comic books and science has always been linked.
@figocooldude Something is called science fiction because the story and characters aren't real, but a lot of aspects elements of the story are possible dipshit
@figocooldude The video we're watching is X-Men dipshit not Spiderman.History Channel did an entire two part documentary about this subject years ago called the science of super heroes.Youtube it or google it.Like I said some aspects of the comics aren't possible but others either can be achieved now or will be in the future.
@wisewarrior7 Idiot, if your gonna comment on what I said, read to who I replied. "The Hulk because of the nanomedes, Spiderman because of the spider's bite." Stay with the fuckin' conversation!
It's called science fiction for a reason, it's based on a scientific premise, and then exaggerate it, transform it, and viola: fiction, science fiction.
Sometimes they have the fortune to casually predict a scientific invention, like Jules Verne.
Actually the metal the bridge is magnetic, now lets say there was a giant with a magnet and the bridge was only the size of a mouse or frog to it it would move. And in the x-men films and comics thats how powerful Magneto actually is, so Magneto can do it.
It's a good video and very educational. However, it's very hard to understand at times because of the microphone; it gets a bit static-y.

omg i wanna thank u so much this lil video help me so much in a last min project u helped me pass my physics classs... my homie said thanks to and if u ever need someone to suck ur dick hell do it
rudyflo 3 years ago
umm magneto couldnt do it because magneto is a fukin comic book charater that dosent exist. did you kids just come off the short-bus?
highway955 3 years ago
Funny you say that to the guys who probably outwit you in science. um, yes, we are aware of the fact that magneto isn't real. Most people are, dumbass.
They're just trying to find out "IF" someone like Magneto existed, using his powers, could you move the golden gate bridge?

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Magneto is real and he is worshiped as a god in some cultures. He is actually more powerful than jesus. This was cool though.
funknotik 3 years ago
sciencemadefun, this is bullshit, human mind can do anything, weight really does not matter, but how much the mind knows.

prove it.

shut up magneto is good but X3 was only OK and its a film so who cares how they do it. explain why spiderman could or could not shoot web out his wrists
tomneilens 3 years ago
I'm sure he could come up with the second idea if he had to. I mean he's an expert with his powers and a genius in various fields of science. He also has control over all magnetic properties so he could create as many different magnetic fields needed to accomplish this.
BbClarinet3 3 years ago
It's magic, they don't have to explain it.

i disagree magneto clearly levitated the golden gate bridge :P

I like the way you think Morbbeus. :)

why cant we just travel with magnets? look at those bullet trains!! what if every vehicle in the world was linked to a magnet?...

THE MAGNETIC POWER
luxphor 4 years ago
he is able to create magnetic fields, (which can go to an unimaginable power, there isn't even a limit), to control metal (iron steel etc) and can also produce electrictiy. So although it was a good idea to look into it, the possibilities to do it in life are impossible, but if anyone in real life had the powers of magneto, then it would be possible
jord851 4 years ago
Magneto rules all. He is so powerfuul!
Mario60596 4 years ago
Magneto is not bound by such stuff! He just creates magnetic fields around the bridge and lifts it off. It doesn't matter if it's steel, he can do it. He's magneto :P
DrakeNovum 4 years ago
Shit, Magneto can manipulate the whole spectrum of Electromagnetic energies and radiation, from bending light to become invisible to bending gravitons to create a stable wormhole through which he could travel... but his specialty is metal stuff xD
DrakeNovum 4 years ago
it is possible magneto to do it because he can manipulate every type of metal in molecular level if he focus enough( in the space he can even manipulate earth, risking his life of course).

Hey, such a nice video! It's good to enjoy cinema but it's also better to know how things work around us :) Nice work!

Toya123 4 years ago
I am not disputing what they can do in the comics. I was examining whether this science fiction had any basis in science fact.
sciencemadefun 4 years ago
@Toya123 The point of this video was to examine if a being or technology could do it in the real world dumbass
wisewarrior7 8 months ago
You give no argument why he can't list it. You just state he can't because it isn't clear. You can't say you can't travel closely at the speed of light because you have never done it.

magneto is master of metal and magnetism so bridge is mostly metal and he can minipulate it
and there isnt much science behind x-men they ahieved there powers from genetic mutations the nature has done for no particular reason
Tearsdontfall201 4 years ago
sciencemadefun Scientists say everything in the Universe is bound by the laws of Physics. However that statement is a theory and not fully true, the Universe is vastly huged and unknown to man. Meaning that their could be things in the Universe that defy the laws of Physics set by Scientists. Magneto's power could have been magnified by the water below the bridge giving him the extra power needed to lift it.
AaronP2005 4 years ago
i thought the point was he could manipulate metal - it didnt have to have science behind it because it was a power.
is it scientific that cyclops can shoot laser beams from his eyes? no, but thats the whole point!
hes called magneto cos that fits, not because he is bound by the laws of magnetism
grumpygremlin 4 years ago
Everything, i reiterate everything in the Universe is bound by the laws of Physics. Superman has his powers because of the difference between Krypton and Earth. All superheros have their power because of science, The Hulk because of the nanomedes, Spiderman because of the spider's bite. The relationship between comic books and science has always been linked.

@sciencemadefun It's science-FICTION!
figocooldude 1 year ago
@figocooldude Something is called science fiction because the story and characters aren't real, but a lot of aspects elements of the story are possible dipshit
wisewarrior7 8 months ago
@wisewarrior7 Yeah, the spider bite is possible. STFU bitch.
figocooldude 8 months ago
@figocooldude The video we're watching is X-Men dipshit not Spiderman.History Channel did an entire two part documentary about this subject years ago called the science of super heroes.Youtube it or google it.Like I said some aspects of the comics aren't possible but others either can be achieved now or will be in the future.
wisewarrior7 8 months ago
@wisewarrior7 Idiot, if your gonna comment on what I said, read to who I replied. "The Hulk because of the nanomedes, Spiderman because of the spider's bite." Stay with the fuckin' conversation!
It's called science fiction for a reason, it's based on a scientific premise, and then exaggerate it, transform it, and viola: fiction, science fiction.
Sometimes they have the fortune to casually predict a scientific invention, like Jules Verne.
figocooldude 8 months ago
Actually the metal the bridge is magnetic, now lets say there was a giant with a magnet and the bridge was only the size of a mouse or frog to it it would move. And in the x-men films and comics thats how powerful Magneto actually is, so Magneto can do it.
Erithramere 4 years ago
hmmm....OBVIOUSLY magneto couldnt lit the bridge for one reason: Magneto doesn't exist! I take your pint though
