  • RIP, Robert Sherman.

  • slow down

  • What a true Disney treasure! Thank you for the upload!

  • On that day, after he sang that song,a bird flew by. It's as if he thought Walt was just flying by to say hello old friend. That was his exact first thought when that one bird flew by after the song was sung. I watched it on one of the discs of the dvd actually. I found it so beautiful that after he sang that song,a bird flew by. It was so moving and so wonderful to know that he was just stopping by to say hi. We love you Walt Disney, forever and always =)

  • @KevinBiedrzycki1 wrong event. that happened at walt's 100th birthday. this is a different event.

  • @KevinBiedrzycki1

no it wasnt it was when they were dedicating the statue for him

  • @theaustralianidol ooh my bad,lol!

  • @theaustralianidol no it was walt's 100th birthday

  • @KevinBiedrzycki1

I'll bet he really was there, just like the saints in the song. "Although you can't see it, you know they are smiling each time someone shows that he cares..."

  • The Sherman Brothers wrote the songs that generations and generations of people know and sing along.

  • Still remember reading about Walt's death on the front page of the Everett Herald in 1966. Like MIllions of kids I thought he was my special TV mentor and it made it all the more confusing when I continued to see him hosting his show. Like his death, reruns were another concept I couldn't comprehend at 9 years old. Thankyou Richard Sherman for this touching tribute.

  • Thank You Thank you for Posting this!! It's now in my favorites!

  • I was there!!! This was on my Birthday!!for my 30th Birthday!!

  • @LoveofDisney4ever

What a great time and place to have a birthday!

  • What a wonderful man! I love this song. I couldn't help but cry when I watched this. I wish I could have seen this in person!

  • Notice at 0:40-41 a little bird seems to fly into the piano from the left.. Was that staged ?

  • @jdollinter

No it wasn't. In fact, after watching the tape, Richard Sherman noticed the bird and commented: "That was Walt".

I saw it in a documentary.

  • @jdollinter No that wasnt staged. it just happened at a great time and richard sherman said it was walt disney

  • I heard a story he told where he played that song on some event in Disneyland and dedicated it to Walt Disney. Near the end of the song a white dove landed on the piano and flew away when the song was over and everyone was crying after that. He asked one of the event planners or some one why the people in the audience were crying and the person said, "That was Walt coming down to say thank you".

  • @667mumble This is featured on the second disk of Mary Poppins in the making of, Richard Sherman talks about it. The bird doesn't land on the piano but it flies down over the piano at the end and Richard didn't see it because he was busy playing, probably looking at the keys. But on the film you see the shadow of the bird flying over and the making of shows the clip with the shadow of the bird. The event was the dedicating of the statue of walt holding mickey's hand for walt's 100th birthday.

  • At some point between this song being written and Walt's death, a tradition began. Every Friday, the Shermans would meet Walt in his office and play the song as he looked over the park. Richard claims that at one point he heard Walt say, "Yep...that's what this is all about."

  • @HAISPAM Thats not totally true in that Walt's office where richard played was in Burbank while the park is in Anaheim.

  • @MindVentriloquism Thanks for the clarification. :)

  • @MindVentriloquism Ya it kinda is. If you look at the blueprints of Walt's office at the Studio that Dave Smith drew, you can see that the piano was turned facing the wall. Dick always said that he was frustrated with that piano because he couldn't look at Walt whenever he played "Feed the Birds". Also, the Sherman Bros. were Disney's first contractual musicians so they had their own offices in the Studio.

  • I love this song! I always get a little teary when I hear it.

  • Hehe simply magical. This man along with his brother is the one that has all of these wonderful Disney tunes swimming in our heads. They don't make em like this anymore.

  • This is amazing, thank you! =)

  • This is one of my favorite songs from them.
