  • Why oh why didn't she let her full intellect shine? She was a smart cookie and she never let herself shine. I think she wanted to be strong and have a love but she let men tell her what to do all the time. I wish she'd shown them her brains instead of her body and external beauty. I bet she would have loved this tribute... <3

  • A beautiful tribute by a man for a woman that he never knew.

  • @JWeed83 Yea, the gay &--hole made quite a bit of money off of her name.

  • @TheHessla WTF?

  • @MrStevieAustin Copy and paste video link o nto dirpy com. THUMBS UP SO MORE PEOPLE CAN SEE

  • You just dont get music like this anymore. such a great song! Two thumbs up.

  • I'm only 12 years old and i listen to all the modern stuff from metal to rap and everything in between, but Elton John is more amazing than anything ive heard my mom listen to

  • @EnormityGaming it means that you're a multi-genre person.... I myself can put Nevermore, Elton John, Bach and Eminem on the same level of VERY different books..... so I guess I'm saying kudos to you for probably being the same:D

  • Not only is the original, but the best version...

  • the best line is "from the young man in the 22nd row, who see's you as something more than sexual. More than just our Marilyn Monroe" ... but can someone please tell me what it means? :) xxx

  • @MollieJ90 Means a person sitting in a cinema on the 22nd row and watching her in a film. He sees that she is a human being and that she is Norma Jean (her real name) not Marilyn Monroe, a toy that every man wanted to play with. This was probably the reason why Marilyn killed herself because of her depression of no one caring for her personality and welfare.

  • @Titanlord10000 Just to note, the young man in the 22nd row is Elton John who watched a classic in a cinema

  • ....ogni donna dovrebbe sentirsi una principessa!!

  • una bellissima canzone appropriata per il funerale di chiunque!

  • @MrFilippo48 Sì. Così è del 1997 versione di "Candle In The Wind"

  • spoent the day making a utube list of songs....while wasted on wine, at age 52.

  • das lied ist sooo schön <3 *.*

  • my most fav song by elton john. i alwayz listen 2 dis song n never get enough. thanx so much 4 sharing.

  • is this a tribute to princess dianna? GOD DAMN she's been dead a long time!

  • @gee8908

No its to Marilyn Monroe, there is another version with changed lyrics for Princess Diana.

  • i had to dress up as elton john and play this song in front of the whole school for a project..... i felt like god :D

  • This song was played at my uncle's funeral and only remembered it was something with candle..so i searched it up..so sad..may you rest in peace uncle Bert..you will never be forgotten!

  • Can't get enough of Elton John's music, I listen to his songs over and over...

  • the song was re-written for princess diana fact you can research it the orignal is for norma jeane it was re-rote

  • The Norma Jean in the song is Norma Jeane Mortenson/Baker, who was transformed by Hollywood to the Marilyn Monroe, also mentioned in the song. The song came out in 1973, 11 years after Marilyn's death. The lyrics were written by Bernie Taupin, music by Sir Elton. Sir Elton rewrote the lyrics for the song in 1997 in tribute to Lady Diana. I really wish people would cultivate some sense of history.

  • @thebeauhooligan finally some1 else gets it

  • To be clear. The words were originally written by "Bernie Taupin". Taupin wrote many of the songs for Elton John during their collaboration. Elton, "Reg" rewrote the words for the Princess.

  • yes i agree but the changes were terrific-so touching,RIP Diana, fabulous job Elton.

  • first and for most!! THIS SONG WAS WRITTEN FOR PRINCESS DIANA!! A close, dear friend of Elton's. Where people are getting Marilyn from is beyond me, but now you know the facts!

    Rest in peace Princess!!

  • @cutiepatootieize

Was that a joke? Seeming as it was written years before Diana even died...

Not to mention the lyrics directly mention Marilyn Monroe and her actual name (Norma).

    Thats a fact.

  • @403766 Are you stupid or just plain dumb, the song was written for Marilyn, but revamped when Princess Diana died & was played to the congregation& the millions

outside,to a standing ovation,as Princess Diana was a Goddess just as Marilyn was

  • @alchiby

Are you stupid, what is your point even I know everything you just said.

  • @alchiby I don't know, if you know, that most people know that. :l

  • @cutiepatootieize dumb or reatrded ?? im confused. get me out of the confusion so just tell me.. dumb or retarded ??

  • @cutiepatootieize I hate to inform you of this, but this song was written LONG BEFORE Princess Diana, You may need to do some research. LOL I can't believe anybody thinks that this song was written for Princess Di, Elton John made changes to this song for Princess Diana's funeral.

  • @cutiepatootieize No, it was written about Marilyn long before. Elton covered it for Diana's funeral as it was a beautiful and fitting song, especially when song by him.

  • @cutiepatootieize clearly you can't hear the lyrics

  • @cutiepatootieize

    Good try, But no.

This song was RE-WRITTEN for Princess Diana's funeral, but was oringinally written for Marilyn Monroe.

    Now you know the facts.

  • @cutiepatootieize no this song was orignally made for marylin monroe 11 years after she died and then he re-wrote the song for princess diana . because wen the song starts , for princess diana he says " goodbye england's rose " and for this song it's " goodbye norma jean" ( marylin's actual name )

  • @godsnotrealfs I agree she did but, it's the purpose, it's out of respect it's still sad it's not right how a person passes on even if they took their own life away that makes it more sad. Just my opinion.

  • Marilyn deserved more. She lived her last years in hell...</3

  • This is my favorite song & the video was awesome!!!!

  • Love this song. makes me sad :)

  • RIP MOMMAR GADDAFI

  • @flyworld3 you guys are retarded lol

  • i didn't grow up in the Marylin Monroe era but to me she represented the ideal women i have to say i seen the happy birthday mr president video too awesome

  • I think he wrote this for Marlyn Monroe.

  • @123RainbowCupcakes actually this song has been written for princess Diana and performed for the first time at her funeral...

  • @123RainbowCupcakes :o you were right! i didn't know the song was first written for marylin monroe then re-done for Princess Diana :o i'm sorry i admit my mistake =)

  • @theodoreyd What? How is Steve Jobs relevant?

  • @crazypizza Because he died and this song is to dead people mainly Marilyn Monroe.

  • @theodoreyd is this comment a joke

  • @theodoreyd :buddy are you serious?

  • @theodoreyd I didn't relize that this song was about that turtle-neck wearing person you see so quick to call a "god". He made Macbooks, the Hitler of computers. He wasn't a visionary.

  • @markferensics It ain't about steve jobs. Its about norma jean aka marilyn monroe

  • 'From the young man in the 22nd row

Who sees you as something more than sexual

More than just our Marilyn Monroe' thats beautiful he thought she was worth more than just a woman that everyone wanted to fuck, people didnt care about her depression or anything just as long as she looked sexy, well that is just said, this song is a amazing tribute but i think it has so much to do with the world we live in

  • @soweet4eva Nice comment!

  • I was listening to this song in the car today, probably played it 3 different times, and I almost cried while listening to it, as this song can not only apply to Marilyn Monroe, but it can apply to many different people, and the lyrics are so amazingly emotional.

  • who's sebastian everyone is r.i.p'ing

  • ten utwór był pierwotnie nagrany w 1974 jako hołd dla Marilyn Monroe ...

  • very good

  • Good song. Good bye Yellow Brick Road and a great Piece of ass to Marilyn Monroe.

I can't think of any other use for her. She was most likely a mental case easy to screw if you had the right status. Sorry but I miss Bobby and John a whole lot more then some hollywood emotionally disturbed girl who was attracted to men of power than Bobby Kenedy who might have helped us all be free.

  • I had heard that this song made grown men cry.

After seeing how my father reacted to hearing this for the first time in decades, I can see why.

  • @ShyGuyPinoy very well said mate goodluck with your life bless

  • Thumbs up if you still are going to listen to this in 2030!! :D
