windows is like pc cancer. Once it's in there, it just gets worse and worse through time. There is no real "cure" to it, unless you completely remove it and hope the hardware's still intact.
@Partianz I will have to disagree. If you are saying that because of the graphics, you can disable them. I've used Ubuntu and actually find it to be laggy. I love linux mint, but windows 7 has more functionality.

Not sure if they implented a nice automated thing for it yet, But I guess you have to do it manually in the installer. Select Manual in the Partitioner, create an ext4 partition with the mountpoint /.
Then create another partition of about twice your ram, which should be a SWAP partition. Press next :D
It's not like Windows Vista and it's security system. Linux is another world, the password can be disabled at login, but not for installing apps. root is the only user with ability to install programs, so u need it's permission to install them, that's why you need to enter your passwd. It's just one of the methods of the Linux security.

Ur just sad that u paid $400 for Windows, and most of us have the awesome Linux OS which is 10000X better than Windows!

And do you use system restore etc.? I've never used anything windows shit
k0valik 2 years ago 4
System restore doesn't work. Does it fix drivers? Does it restore the kernel? No, it just fixes config settings.

cool but how do you install it with ext4?
firecad2006 2 years ago
Not sure if they implented a nice automated thing for it yet, But I guess you have to do it manually in the installer. Select Manual in the Partitioner, create an ext4 partition with the mountpoint /.
Then create another partition of about twice your ram, which should be a SWAP partition. Press next :D

my linux system asks for password when i boot and install programs
can i just disable password without dangerous consequences?
erdal0 2 years ago
go to system > login window then click the security tab then check the box that says "enable automatic login"
wcarr005 2 years ago
It's not like Windows Vista and it's security system. Linux is another world, the password can be disabled at login, but not for installing apps. root is the only user with ability to install programs, so u need it's permission to install them, that's why you need to enter your passwd. It's just one of the methods of the Linux security.

If this is Ext3, imagine Ext4. My guess, 10 seconds to boot. Man you should make a video with Ext4.

Intel Moblin boots even faster.
It would boot even faster if you used Coreboot.
We still have way to go. Faster, faster, faster. :)
