@byo281271 Thanks…But at this point this version is really outdated. See the "updated" one on my channel, is much closer to how it should be played. See also the real live performance at gilgamesh, if you want…
Hello Jeck! It´s wonderful man! You made a nice job on this keyboards :-) PS: If you realy like this song, looking for "A Whiter Shade of Pale; the organ part" of "hammondDomein" Channel...
I like your version. It is very slightly different from Procol Harum.I agree about a guitar on an original. There is some additional instrument appearing sometimes on an original (SINGLE).It would not be a guitar, sounds more like a chorus of a keyboard.Until Whitehorn nobody played it on concerts. You did a great job playing and emulation of B3 although Fisher used M111 in it (got one).Love a sound of organ in a recording. I use Orion Platinum for recording. No Mac , PC.Thank you for posting!GREAT
@JeckOverfull All M100 are the same organ , just different style and finish. It caused a lot of confusion when some people look for hi gloss mahogany versus walnut , or oak.Electronics and tonewheel generator are the same and so are drawbars and switches.Mine weighs a lot.Cost was more to transport ,than for organ.VB3 sounds great.I would love to add it to my Yamaha PSR 520 , which I use as one of workstation.Does the controller come with VB3? I am not familiar with it, so forgive my ignorance.
@chriskar5 You can buy VB3 for approx 50$ from genuinesoundware, but you need to connect your keyboard to a computer to run it.
My controller is a korg nanokontrol, got it in a music store, can't remember the price (maye something like 30 euros?). You can actually use any midi controller you can connect to a computer, pedals included. If you have a second keyboard you can also have a dual manual organ.
Reportedly, Trower never played on AWSoP on stage, Grabham added some "random" very intrusive licks, a couple of which I tried to replicate on the other version, from time to time (EG: listen to the version with Coppong, on my channel), but Royer played a couple of things (well, at this point the matter is controvert, given that many thinks he didn't).
Never heard Ball nor Renwick so far. And Grabham didn't add anything at Redhill.
@JeckOverfull its beautiful stuff, ears don`t lie i forgot so say that there are Full Band Score in it * with Vocals - Lyrics Drums Bass + tabs and Guitar + tabs !! hahaha but Guitar isn`t in the record, it doesn`t matter, it sounds also Great with strings in the record are Piano an Organ, i realized this shortly grat Songs have nice Time i`m going to make Music now gretz Alex
@Simbelmyne2 Guitar is in the ricord (but it's not doing what it's written on the sheet, that's actually the piano part). If you listen carefully you can hear it from time to time (most notably in the chorus, right where Brooker sings "turned a whiter shade of pale".
@JeckOverfull you are right, its not doing what its written , it cant be working , it can`t be played correct what is in the sheet because there is no Guitar in the Song, but i know what you mean, it`s the singlenote "D", this is no Guitarplaying - this is an accident hahaha ! a little later in the Song the Barpiano made some arpeggios, a little bit to loud of the Bar Piano, but the Rhythm is traceable, and theres a second - in the sheet is no Piano notation only Organ with rest of the Band
@Simbelmyne2 Well, the keyboard notation seems a bit for organ and a bit for piano (you wouldn't write the intro that way for organ, but you would for piano, the opposite happens for the outro)…
but there was guitar on the original record, Ray Royer played it, you have to listen very carefully, but you can hear it for example in the choruses and during the outro (for "outro" I mean the lead up to final chorus).
@JeckOverfull yes and do you hear helicopters too, Cows, and the Ring of the Church in wich they recorded it, and telephone ring ?what else do you hear too ? smile, there is no Guitarplaying in it, a Guitarplayer plays Guitar that they recognized as one, and to the Notation - its absolutly correct for Organ, your looking for what ? your Tunes in your Version ? your version is also cool but a lot of wrong harmonies, yes, Royer is the guitarplayer of ProHar but not here, no Guitar No Ray Royer
About the organ line, this is simply not what was played originally. Nor is exacly what I played in this ((quite old) video. My newer version is quite close to recent live version for fisher, this one is quite close to the original, if you really want to hear it…
@JeckOverfull nice Version, a little bit better, but sec 4 to sec 5 is no Am7/9 in original, and at sec 8 is no Fj7 too, and so on...........you played better here in this Version but you play Chords which are not in the original , there are to much dispensable Chords and Harmonies in your version, your play is good but the Hamonies always not yet original, but you version is your own Version and i think you like it with more Options as in the original, respekt ! for me its too much sugar...
@Simbelmyne2 Never been too sure about some of the chords (expecially toward the end of chouses/solo, so you may be right. Still hoping to find some definitie evidence, one day…
However, even broker doesn't seem to know/remember what everyone played on the original record, just hear the organ part of his orchestration and you'll hear a lot of differences.
The reason is quite obvious: in procol harum every musician chose his part (in accordance with the others, of course), when someone left the newcomer had to figure out what to play by himself, having only chords (and probably some tips from the others, of course) as reference.
@JeckOverfull its only, voice, bass, drums, bass, piano and organ, sure they have to say that there is guitar too because of the Money and to call as a complete Procol Harum Band, sorry there is no Guitar in it, only the bar Piano play this stuff like an accident, real Guitarplaying is working different , but you gave me an interesting thouht to term this 2 - 3 parts in the Song, to say its Guitar sounds better than an accident hahaha for the Future : Guitar in the Song a lie ? no an falsity.
@Simbelmyne2@JeckOverfull Well, if it is an "accident", why it disappeared when Ray Royers left the band (it's in all the versions he played) and reappered, changed slightly, when Whitehorn joined?
If you can't hear it, anyway, there is nothing I can do…
@JeckOverfull ....... don´t say this, there is something you can do, learn how to play A Whiter Shade of Pale correctly and post it in you tube, an i will organize an Concert with you and me n`my Band in germany ok ?
hey Compadre, i hear those parts, .............to say this is Guitar is an defamation hahahha.............real Guitarplaying is another Story, but in confidence i don´t think this is Piano, its like a Glas of Beer which is tilting over or something else ..smile..............
@Simbelmyne2 As far as I know what I'm playing now is correct. Surely correct enought to be played with a band (which, in fact, I'm doing) and surely lot closer than what Phillips is playing those days…
For the concert…well, I'll be glad to do it!
Ok, it's surely not a "great" guitar part (but better playing smalli things like this than getting in the way, right?), but it is guitar, Royer always played that little licks on this tune.
@JeckOverfull ok , where do you live ? i am an absolute hearer, i play Piano and Guitar since 26 Years, i have study Musik and for many years i am a Music Teacher, A Whiter Shade of Pale is one of the rarest Songs of Procol Harum with no Guitar, but i can appease you , the Guitar player was attendant at the recording, he made Coffee and Tea for his band members
No, not really. There are a lot floating around, but all of them seems to be VERY imprecise. I could easily create one using garageband, however, if you wish…;)
Lovely playing my friend I really enjoyed this. Thanks for sharing.

Wasn't it an M-102? The matter came up on his list a few days ago…
I'd love to have a real Hammond (console or spinet), but I'll have to keep using VB3 for the foreseeable future. Great software, by the way.

@Simbelmyne2 Well, I'm sorry you take it this way…
For guitar playing in the original recording: procolharum(dot)com/99/awsop_whitehorn(dot)htm
"The chorus ends [bars 31–32] with Geoff emphasising those little Steve Cropper-like licks, the only prominent guitar heard on the 1967 recording."
A couple of notes in the chorus. Listen carefully and you'll hear more, especially near the end.
