It's personally my favorite movie. I haven't seen the series, but I own the mangas which is quite different from the movie.

There are many things one can miss on a first view, especially the more profound symbolics, but I fear you have failed to see the obvious ones.

I am rather disappointed to find so little people on the net who actually get the movie, but those who do have an amazing grasp of it.

In the anime, Shiori was actually interested in Juri. They aren't sisters. That wasn't in the dub.

Touga was never fighting for the rose bride, and no one except for Utena and Anthy could see him. Remember the scene where Miki said "who is Touga?" even though he was standing right next to him? That's because Touga doesn't exist to anyone else except Utena and Anthy.

it's more or less a continuation from the anime

inside meanings hidden it's strange if you didn't watch the anime series before hand, it's quite deep actually
