@Chaman2019 Since the last version was released on an 8.5" floppy, you're probably not going to find it unless someone was gracious enough to port it to a site like Steam.
@MultiHitman1234 You might be thinking of one of the later releases of Oregon Trail. Since the original was from the mid-80's, it was likely never released on CD since CD-ROM games were introduced in the mid-90's.
I played this in elementary school! Ahhh....Memories....memories of dysentery, typhoid, choleria, crossing that God-aweful river... The weak dying from exhaustion. I shot a few rabbits, deer, bear. Oh, & that river. My wheel broke. My beasts of burden died. I was robbed. My supplies fell in the river. LIfe was tough!
I was so excited when I first started, buying all my supplies, certain we would all make it there together, ALIVE. No one wins.
@LizetteBaguette i did, only one of my guys got measels but then he got better and no one died, all my cows were still alive and only one got injured.. I fucking owned.. first time playing :)
OK, EVERYBODY LISTEN SO I DONT HAVE TO REPEAT MYSELF. All you need is 999 of everything. Food, all that shit. Ammo. you know the whole nine yards; and you should be str8, the whole journey. In that mode you can just hunt for fun or just to be assured; you'll make it everytime. I used to play this when I was in the elementry that the guy was talking about in the begining of this video.
This is the one I played..not the updated version with color and fleshed out characters. Stick figures! W00t!!...Too bad this game haunts my nightmares...I never won...everyone always died...
I hate this game so much but I'll never be able to forget it XD lol
Once I figured out to be the banker, set the pace to grueling, and food portions to meager, and leave in the summer, it was a cakewalk until the river. That still was a crap shoot.
I remember this.....I remember playing this during break tme in math class... or library day at school...... and I always died.....>.> or got sick.....
I also rememeber floppy disks..... and number munchers....
Goodness am I really that old??? I remember playing this and Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego!! I remember after a few steps your wagon would catch on fire LMAO!! Those were the days when a first person shooter was Duck Hunt. hahahaha Man I'm Old!!
Sometimes I would name the characters after people I didn't like in school and intentionally send them on a death march and kill them. Then I would write bad stuff about them on the headstones, like this fat kid I hated, I wrote that he ate himself to death. It was always funny when another classmate would be playing and come across that headstone and just bust up laughing.
Bah, bankers suck, cuz why the heck do they need bankers in unsettled Oregon? Farmers get the big points at the end (winning just means buying ammo instead of food). I have gotten five farmers to Oregon in good health multiple times.
Anybody else catch the Pepperoni and Cheese on the tombstone? LOL everyone used to do this back in the day due to the old Tombstone Pizza Commercials. "What would you like on the tombstone?"
@maxpowers518 Somebody in my team would always get cholera. I used to love playing this back in '94 in 2nd grade on those old Apple computers. Everybody would get so mad when it was time to go back to class.
Ooo. The version I used to play all the time was Oregon Trail 2. Much more advanced, you had actual conversations with people, & cooler hunting. You died just as much though. XD
hahah damn. i hella remember not going to class just to play this game and I hated it cause I could never get far enough to brag with my friends... my stupid crew weren't strong enough to make it to oregon =[
Ah yes, memories. Oregon trail comprised the bulk of elementary school computer class. The teachers would insist that one day these machines would run everything. I found it almost hard to believe considering the only thing I knew how to do with them was play Oregon Trail.
Most people lost in Oregon Trail because of the time limits in school. Without those limits, there's nothing in the game that says you have to make it to Oregon in the first year (or even the first 3 years, for that matter).
Pick the farmer and buy a LOT of bullets. Set up camp outside of the first outpost and hunt every day. With a few thousands pounds of food, trade for gear and more bullets. Repeat until you are ready to make the trip at a nice, slow pace with all the spare gear you need.
I'm from Portland, OR. I could never make it to Oregon in the game. All my people would get sick and die. Then I would write something "gross" on the tombstone. I would always end up playing Ms. Pacman. We had a lot of games at school. Off topic: remember the beta printers? MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!! Lol
They made a whole bunch of new versions of this game, but none will be as awesome as the first. Or course, I happened to see an Oregon Trail CD a few years back, picked it up, and found out it was the wrong one. UGH!
Call of Duty, Halo, GTA, none of these are as epic Oregon Trail. If you gave this game to kids today their heads would explode from the level of awesomeness this game contains.
I loved this game. A personal challenge for most of us was finishing the game before the computer lab time was up. I don't remember the tiem limit we had. An hour? 30 minutes?
@FallenLazySleep haha I played this is 8th grade a couple years back. we were learning about all this stuff so we went to the computer lab and we had about 40 minutes. it was so fun but not enough time to finish haha!
there was a Neil Young song in one of the Oregon Trail games (or at least it sounded like Neil Young) in one of these games. Does anyone know the name of the song, I have been looking for it for years.
When Chuck Norris plays Oregon Trail his family does not die from cholera or dysentery, but rather roundhouse kicks to the face. He also requires no wagon, since he carries the oxen, axels, and buffalo meat on his back. He always makes it to Oregon before you.

this review is faggot. this game meant so much to alot of us, it was way more epic than that. you gotta take the context of the gameplay into account, not just be some shitty overweight underpaid fuck nut with a few minutes on youtube.
We did this in elementary school in 5th grade social studies but it was not a computer game. We did it with these booklets and it was almost like a pen and paper roll playing game. We'd draw out of a can to see what happened and we'd have to listen to what happened to each table (wagon train) and then the last part of class was writing a 1 page journal entry about our character. Did anyone else do this game this way?
Apparently every kid in the universe who went to elementary in the 80s did it but I seem to be the only one that did this pen and paper style with my class. It was actually kind of fun. Our teacher used props. I remember my character burned his hand grabbing a hot pot of the fire and had to wear a bandage for the rest of class on it. Another time the indians robbed us and we had to put our hands up while the teacher read what was happening. My table (wagon train) died at the snow covered pass.
It was very D&D like although there was no dice rolling. Our teacher was anti-gun and very religious so we kind of glazed over the hunting thing as I remember.
That takes me back to middle school. My friends and I would deliberately find ways to kill the members quickly so that we could write witty messages on the gravestones. Ah, good times! :)
How the hell was I supposed to figure all that out in grade school in an hour in the computer lab. thanks for the post , it brings back frustrating but fond memories.
I played this game in elementry school. it was so fun! the best parts were putting in the names of your friends and then they would die and it would be soooo funny! another fun part was hunting! what a fun game. i would love to have this on my computer. and it's soooo easy to play. it's better than a lot of the games out today
Haha I remember the last time I played this, I got pissed because I decided to ford a river and my wagon tipped over and all of my oxen and 4 party members drowned in 3 feet of water, who the hell drowns in 3 feet of water? lol.
Man I remember this game, We only had a certain amount of Oregon Trail floppy disc's in our computer class so everyone would grab them right when they came in, if you didn't get one of those you had to settle for some math game with numbers and shit... great times...
The only freakin reason I never beat this game was because I only got to play it during my computer class in elementary school which was like 45 minutes long. I remember bringing my lunch to the computer room just to play this with the fake hamburger with the ketchup packets and the liuttle carton of chocolate milk. *sigh* those were the days
i got this game on my celfon.. it's really nice.. gameloft developed it to a newer version for mobile phones... it 's really true.. only bankers make it to oregon... l0l
The raft was easy and awesome. I hit the shore only once because I didn't know what it did. I thought I could squeeze betwen two rocks but I lost some shit, but that's because I knew even if I was injured the raft would still be intact to make it, so why not experiment during the 50 minutes you're on the raft dodging rocks
I use to love this game. There was an earlier version of Oregon trail. The 1992 version was not the first. Anyways Can you play this game on a PC with Windows XP?
lol We played this in school in the 80s though it was never in color back then. They had just started placing computers in schools at that time & to us this was high tech.
dos and max versions are great. and i'm glad it makes me feel a true nostalgia, back in 2000, playing on the macs. ahh, the days of seeing those pretty colorful pixels.
Nonstalgia means things that remind you of your past, memories. Like, "Oregon Trail is pure nonstalgia", means that it brings up a lot of fond memories, or is something that brings about many memories.
Yeah not a problem. Honestly, I myself usually have a pocket dictionary on hand, so as when I come across a word I am not familiar with I can just teach myself it on the spot. I am 26 and there are still massive amounts of words I hear from time to time that I do not know, so there is only one way to resolve that.
Here's a little tip: When you're at a river crossing and you are given the option to "Hire Mandan guide" to help you across, for fucksakes, just pay the man or you won't make it!
i always died on a river. i hated this game because i wasnt good at it and no one would help me be any better at it either. Do you know how boring it is to play a game for school when you don't even enjoy the game? -.- i never liked PE either though
Holy shit, that's my tombstone! Where'd you get that?
Actually, I must have played that same simulator a few months ago and saw the tombstone I used to make 15 years ago. But still, how'd it get there? Where was the database collected from?
yea used to play this in elementary school but the one i play was a little newer than that but aww memories and we used to play some game where a kid was in a museum or something but i dont know the name of it

Haha I remember the last time I played this, I got pissed because I decided to ford a river and my wagon tipped over and all of my oxen and 4 party members drowned in 3 feet of water, who the hell drowns in 3 feet of water? lol.
All the more reason to love it, though!

Man I remember this game, We only had a certain amount of Oregon Trail floppy disc's in our computer class so everyone would grab them right when they came in, if you didn't get one of those you had to settle for some math game with numbers and shit... great times...

I played oregon trail, but it looked much different than that..... better interface. o.0
rideshorse05 2 years ago
...then you have to go back to math class. lol

Same here, played it on a machintosh. Took me weeks to beat this game, probably through a different user who got deeper into the game.

Wow, I remember playing this in elementary school. Haha, oh how things were so simple back then. It has only been like 15 years, haha.

LAWL I always made it
I played it in 2002 it was fun
Never really remembered it
I GOT ALL THE WAY ALL THE TIME

I use to love this game. There was an earlier version of Oregon trail. The 1992 version was not the first. Anyways Can you play this game on a PC with Windows XP?

Oregon trail...or bust!
Markmeblablabla 3 years ago
I played this in elementary school in 1994. I always died while crossing the river.
There was a cheat code for it. But by that time I was in middle school and they didn't have it.

lol We played this in school in the 80s though it was never in color back then. They had just started placing computers in schools at that time & to us this was high tech.

dos and max versions are great. and i'm glad it makes me feel a true nostalgia, back in 2000, playing on the macs. ahh, the days of seeing those pretty colorful pixels.
NTIGBCYTP 3 years ago
whats nostaligia mean i always hear that word but dont know what it means
ya1y1234 3 years ago
Nonstalgia means things that remind you of your past, memories. Like, "Oregon Trail is pure nonstalgia", means that it brings up a lot of fond memories, or is something that brings about many memories.

thanks!

P.S. I never made it to Oregon ever
bigcardinal76 3 years ago
i always died on a river. i hated this game because i wasnt good at it and no one would help me be any better at it either.
