I got a lot of respect for Zo. He got dunked on a lot, but he was one of the only guys who had enough balls to try to block everything that came his way, some guys or most guys just get out of the way and let people dunk, not Zo, he was a true warrior.
for some reason i always been a fan of PF & Centers & not really the backcourt. TD, admiral, mutumbo, zo, hakeem, ewing are pretty much my fav of all time.
i dont think their will ever be a group of bigs like their was in the 90's. just too bad all of them were dominated by jordan & pippen. lol dwight howards the best to offer today. hes nothing more than the very poor mans mutombo. hate how the nba is all about the back court now.
forgot to mention, one of the worst attitudes in the nba and no players liked him...how about statin the truth...this guy was a cocksucker and still is....dont glorify his blocked shots or his kidney failure....this guy is scum.
@ChilloutSessionZ he has zo's summer groove for kids every summer and does all kinds of charity work motherfucker! yea on the court he's not suppose to be a sweetheart and make friends you stupid faggot!! who cares if other players and most fans didnt like him. dont be a dumb bitch ya whole life, go view a baby einstein dvd
Zo is one of the all-time greatest, fuck all these newbown Bron bandwagon Heat fans. This next ship is for my boys Mourning, Haslem and Wade. We miss you Zo!
it looked like zo blocked every member of the knicks team, no wonder new york didnt win, they probably broke down when they thought about going to the hoop after this
speaking of shot blocking, guys like D12 and Amare stoudamire may have impressive looking block numbers now, compared to the legends but question is are those swats for the most part still in play or are they clean blocks? in terms of blocks per fouls, Tim Duncan leads the league in that, with a disparity that isn't even close amongst the 2nd guy in that stat, Javal McGee.
The best blocker in nba. After many blocks he's team had ball! Not opponent. Howard strikes ball at crowd. Bogut thinks like Mourning. After 66,7% of his blocks, ball belong for his team. Sorry, I'm weak at English. I hope you understood me.
@tvoorhees91 couldn't agree more, Mourning is my all-time favourite plavyer, his shot blocking is second to none i just loved the guy's passion and intensity. Was awesome to watch him stand his ground and take on a dunk. Wish i got to see him play in person....
I'm 5’7 and dunking – I’m amazing I know! If you want to know how I did it, check out snipurl[dot]com/nbatraining - my little secret that I won’t be telling my H.S. teammates ;)
man him and evander holyfield(boxer) are my 2 most inspirational sports players! the thing with zo was that when he was on the court the entire team always played better. he brought a level of intensity that all the players had to respect! man what a great day it was to see his number retired!
@Googleman1983 yes exactly, he doesnt try to block it hard like shit so it will go into the stands or something, 95% if not more of all the blocks in that video ended up an easy rebound for either him or a team mate...
Zo knows the timing on shot blocking. He just put a hand on the direction of the ball and just wait for it and then BOOOOM!!!!! He doesn't really swat it that's why a block for him could be a possession. Look at Mt. Mutombo, they have thesame style in shot blocking.
shot blocking has completely changed in the past couple years. used to be that guys like zo and hakeem would just stuff guys when they went to the rim. now guys like dwight and marcus camby get most of their blocks by coming over the weak side and swatting away weak layups.
but its hard to block in the paint you got the def 3 sec rule back in the day in the 90s you dont have that big guys were just waiting for players to come
i think he became somewhat of a better shot blocker late in his career, when he was shaqs backup. because he became more aggressive on defense, since he knew he only played limited minutes, so he didn't have to worry about foul trouble as much. i believe he led the nba in blocks per 48 minutes a few times when he played his last seasons with the heat. at least this guy won a ring too. he deserved it. hard worker, team player, never bullshitted around. my team could use another guy like him.
i know dwight is not good as zo but still hes defintly the best center in the nba since shawq is getting old cause all these centers dont know how to play post sadly the players from the 80s would murder all these young nba players
i don't know about howard "definitely being the best center in the nba". have you been watching the finals? he struggles vs taller frontlines, and tough double teams because he has no post moves. he's got no go to moves where he can just shake the defense off. occasionally he'll make a quick spin move and get a layup, but it's easy to counter that if you're the defense. he gets stripped of the ball too often, and he struggles at the line in late game situations. he's a liability late in a game.
Yeah he didn't play finals as we thougt but you can't judge him for 4 games....
Tell me who are now the center top who can have the first position in nba? The pure center...
Howard and Yao.... not much choise..... if he will improve maybe Oden, but at the moment D is certainly the best center (anyway if we would put him in 90s he wouldnt be even in top 5 maybe)
yeah most players now think its fuckin volleyball russel, robinson, olajuwon, mourning, all were great blockers who knew that keeping the ball in play was better.
Indeed, now days it seems like it's all about making spectacular plays, imagine how many more possessions the Magic would have if Dwight went after the ball instead of trying to swat the ball into the stands every time.
@mightyPants yeah for sure - howard has stated that he loves sending shots into the stands because of the "OOOOOOH" from the crowd. what a chump! he could turn that shit into a fast break!
How in the world can you not have Alonzo's back to back blocks in game 6 of the 2006 NBA Finals!? That defensive possession almost sealed Miami's '06 title!!
