  • I have an 03 Eclipse RS. Tons of mods. Nobody that knows anything about these motors will say they are powerful. Naturally aspirated they aren't fast. With turbo and a lot of tuning..can be pretty fast. But without turbo these engines are just a daily driver motor. It's Sport-y but not a sports car. I adore mine, won't sell it. But I know that even with $8000 into my car it's still not a sports car. stock 1/4mi time is 17.2s @89mph (avg. drivers). stock header, CAI and 2.5" catback= 16.50s @91.

  • @SpeedracerM08 Where in the world do you get 17.2 as the stock 1/4 time? My friend has an 02 RS manual with only an axle-back exhaust it's simply a Dynomax ultra flow muffler and nothing else and he ran consistently a 15.2-15.3 at the track with it when he took it down. They aren't that powerful stock but they are quick and better stock than the 2g's 420a. The 4g64 is quite an amazing motor and one of the most reliable 4cyl eclipses that Mitsubishi has put out in quite awhile.

  • @philbrownell05 I think you're mistaken. The stock GTS with MIVEC and 210HP runs a 15.1 with a stock manual. It's heavy. If you've got your friends 02 RS time slip proving a 15.2s 1/4mile time then have him post it on Club3g.com where all the 3G tuners are. With a CAI only and otherwise completely bone stock, my fed spec 03 RS ran a 16.52 @91mph on 91octane in 85degree heat. And I took out the spare tire and jack and anything else in the car. 147hp isn't gonna do 15s with 3400lbs of car. sry.

  • Ok first of all you don't have a fed spec if it's an 03, 02 was the very last production year for fed spec 3g's. The Fed spec has 154hp and 162 torque and alot less restrictive of an exhaust as opposed to the cali spec's 147hp and 155torque. Trust me my 03 was considerably slower than my friends 02 Fed Spec. He no longer has the time slip for his 02, but he does have a time slip from his 91 eclipse GS with a header-back exhaust running a 14.9. and his Beretta GTZ running a 14.7.

  • So if you're telling me it's not possible to run a 14.9 with a 91 eclipse with just a header back exhaust and a beretta GTZ that's stock running a 14.7 then I do have the timeslips to prove that. And that 91 had about 100k miles when he did that. Not to mention the fact that you don't even know if you have a fed spec or a cali spec. Take a pic of the engine bay and send it to me and I'll be able to tell you if you have a fed or cali spec. til then don't tell me it's not possible.

  • Ok just to clarify in 01(the 02 model year) the 4g64 started to see the cali spec engines with fed specs still hanging around. Now in 02(the 03 model year) they were all cali spec 4g64's. So if yours is an 03 model, it's not a fed spec it's a cali spec just like every 03 and up 3g that I have ever seen. And yes there is quite a performance difference between cali and fed specs.

Owned this car for 7 years of modding it and racing it. An N/A won't run a 15.2. I have solid motor mounts, ignition upgrade, full header back exhaust, CAI, modded MAS sensor. TB spacer. still no.

  • also i own a 264hp mr2 spyder that weights in at 2100lbs, so if my daily driver fails me(sarcasm) i just resort to my track car, i love my mini and there is nothing you can say about it that will change my mind, whatsoever.

  • Well good for you. And you finally say it, it's all just a matter of opinion. Well guess what I love my 3g eclipse and there is nothing you can say that will change my mind. Oh and by the way my buddy has an 02 RS and he ran a 15.200 at Gateway International Raceway. So yea my car can keep up with or beat yours depending on the skill level of the driver of the mini.

  • enough of this keyboard warrior stuff if you want to seriously own up to something come over here to the vegas speedway sometime, enough said.Bring your friends rs as well.

  • sounds awful man flowmasters weren't made for foreign cars

  • y u trying to make it all jdm like with the camera turned

  • I'm not trying to make my car JDM cause there is no such thing as the eclipse over in Japan. My car was built in Illinois. I just wanted a little bit deeper and fuller sound than the stock muffler. Not trying to rice it out otherwise I would have gotten a Greddy or HKS or Skunk2 exhaust, which is why I didn't. It's not for performance, just to make my car have a nicer sound to it. That's all I was goin for.

  • ok no offense but puttin an american muffler on a japanese car doesnt cancel out the rice, u drive it deal with it the car is japanese and it steams rice.

  • Ok, sure it does. That's why with no actual modifications that add real power on my car that's why I can beat out any supercharged mini cooper S that I've raced. The John Cooper S Coopers can beat me, but since my car is a Cali Spec GS with 147hp and 155torque, and the Cooper S has 163hp, and with my add ons I maybe get back to the Fed Spec hp of 154hp at the crank, I'd say that Cooper S's are slow, and that's all that matters.

  • well they cant drive for shit i guess lol...bro your eclipse is ass get out of here

  • That's why any stock cooper S six speed vs my stock eclipse 5 speed got its ass kicked. If my eclipse is ass, then what does that make the cooper S? the Shit that the ass produces? Have fun with your piece of shit car, maybe one day you can be faster than an electric wheelchair.......but don't hold your breath.

  • And it's funny how you say my car is Japanese. The only thing Japanese about my car is the fact that the company that makes it is Japanese, but my car was built in Illinois and in Japan the Eclipse doesn't exist. So therefore my Eclipse is about as Japanese as your mini cooper. But way to make yourself look like a dumbass.

  • and that would make your comment incorrect and invalid, I put an American Muffler on an American built car. So just so you know. But nice try.

  • nice try?Im not even trying...neither are all these other people dissin that scrap metal with wheels...its way too easy bro

  • Sure you're not. You're just mad cause my piece of plastic eclipse is faster stock for stock than your almost 30k dollar mini cooper. It's ok, the truth hurts.

  • stock i ran a 15.255 im pretty sure your eclipse cant handle that, now i have 3 low cost aftermarket parts that gave me 26hp at the wheels. How much money would you have to spend to get 26hp?Def not under 1k hahaha :)

  • Actually all I would have to do is go to a junkyard and find a 1g or 2g 4g63 head and do a SOHC to DOHC swap myself and that would get me about 25hp to 30hp at the wheels. And you can get the head out of a junkyard for about 500 bucks. So actually yea I can do that.

  • lol you know thats really funny because i know somebody who did that swap(prep for turbo) and only gained 3-5hp and thats with a 66mm TB, seriously dude stop tryin to one up me it by bullshitting, thats kinda sad.Maybe you should bring your eclipse to the junkyard and get 20$ for it, thats a down payment on a bike.

  • Wow now you're recycling your comebacks. Guess you're all out of fresh ideas. And either way, do that mod, get a proper tune done and you will see the 20hp gain. Believe me or not but you're argument has been pointless from the very start and you say you caught me in lies but you can't prove that I'm lying.

  • im just tryin to help you out 20$ is a good investment. Actually the swap has been carefully monitored before and after the turbo installation and the peak hp was at around to a 3 to 5 hp gain with some added torque, tuned. The spyder owner asked me if you can find him this magical 15hp he could use it lol, well i dunno what else to say man do your cam swap it wont get you near my mini anyway.

  • @philbrownell05 Dude as a fellow RS 2003 Eclipse owner, I hate to do this but I gotta set this straight..I call bullshit. I'm not sure who told you you'd see gains like that but its just wrong. The DOHC swaps are only prep for turbo. You can swap the Hyundai Sonata DOHC head over or the evo 8 head right onto the 4G64 block in our car. But there is no power gain. It's just better flowing heads for turbo. A member of Club3g built his 4G64 for N/A setup and spent $10,000 to hit 190hp to the wheels.

  • That and my camera won't lay any other way on my driveway. It's a weird camera design and I don't have a stand for it and I didn't really care how good the shot was I just wanted to give people the idea of what it sounded like.

  • u should take off your resinators it will increase the sound. im not going to rag on ya its ur car and what not, but flowmasters dont go good with imports to well.

  • It sounds better in person trust me. But I thought about doing a resonator delete, but it's too much work and it sounds alot better now that it's gotten broken in and I've added my Short Ram to it. But thanks for the tip.

  • listen to the man. go listen to mine. i have res. deletes on mine and it sounds mean. i got some long videos but they are good quality.

  • Whatever you say man. If you would bother looking at my updated videos you can see it's gotten louder now that I've broken it in and that I've gotten the K&N Typhoon intake on it, not to mention that I didn't get that muffler to be obnoxiously loud, I got it to give it a little bit louder/deeper sound but not be obnoxious like those Civic Ricer kids. So again the point is not to make it as loud as possible, just make it sound nice which it did.

  • which series did you installed on your car???

    by the way.

i have a 2007 subaru impreza, i already change both cat converters for high flow cats and i haven´t decided which series from flowmaster i will buy. the Fmaster webpage shows application for 2002 not like mine... so i don´t know.. what do you suggest.

  • It's right in the description which series I have on mine, it's a 40 Series Deltaflow. and it doesn't matter if they don't list your car on their site, cause they didn't list mine. All you need to do is look at you stock muffler and see what kind of inlet/outlet you have and then determine what size of inlet/outlet you want. I would recommend the 60 Series Deltaflow cause that's meant for smaller displacement 4cylinders. Anything else you need to know let me know.

  • Hi there... problem solved, i installed a 50series deltaflow on my car... check out the video... look for it " Subaru Impreza 50 series deltaflow ".... is the same size of the 60series deltaflow, but the sound is a lil bit higher... i tested on the highway and the sound is excellent and the performace is great... i drive the same distance every 2wks from 1 city to antoher but this time i saved almost quarter of tank... tested on the round trip... awesome.

  • Sounds nice man. Although I personally would have gone with the 40 or 60 series cause the deeper sound they give is alot better sounding especially on the WRX's. I love the sound of those boxer 4cyls they have in there. but still sounds nice man.

  • 40`s is too loud for me... and 60`s couldn`t find it in Venezuela... but is the same thing the only difference is the distribution of the air inside... and definitely the best thing is how is saving me gas now... and the sound after 130km/h goes so low that is not disturbing you all the way on the highway...

i`ll try to make a new video later with other camera and with the car after 10min started.

  • Sounds good man. I'm gonna try and get some better vids up of my car and maybe some acceleration vids as well. But yours sounds good and I think the 50 sereies was a good choice.

  • hey the exhaust sounds really good man. For the 4 cyls u definetly need to throw some headers on there too. Check out CMF headers thats what im getting for my GT. but anyway it sounds good.

  • thanks, I think it'll sound better in a few months though after the glass pack gets broken in more. That and the weather was about 10 degrees outside when I shot this. So it sounds better when the weather is warm plus the fact that the muffler was not even a week old when I took this vid. But I'm happy with how it sounds, cause it's already started to sound better in the week and a half after shooting this vid cause it's getting broken in. But thanks for the input. I'll have an updated one soon.

  • That and I got a tip from Autozone to make it look "cleaner" than just an aluminized muffler with a piece of straight pipe on it, and it actually made it sound deeper and louder a little bit. But like I said I'll have that video up soon. And I will eventually get headers for my car but it's not very high on my priority list. But when I do I'm looking at Megan Headers cause they do a really good job. But again thanks for the helpful comment.
