  • A few of the songs are awesome but the story is just like shitty fanfiction.

  • Im going to the musical soon probley in the summer but yeah really im only going cause i want to see raoul as a drunk

    LOL XD

  • ran out of room lol I hve read Letters to Erik &I really, really enjoyed it! I've read a few other tht were pretty good.

Oh I'll point out that I have seen it (jst thought id add that:))

Now I don't hate it (It can't hold a candle to Phantom of course) bt 1 thing tht really bugged me apart frm the character thing was the way it totally screwed up the beginning of phantom!I suppose in a round about way u could still kind of stick them together but it just doesn't flow for me the way it should.

  • Yay. Another Phantom lover. I have jst found your vids so I am starting here at the first.

I KNOW RIGHT! What the heck is with the face.mask thing on the poster? At NO POINT during the actual show does anything appear on anyones face/the stage that explains the freaky mask!! So what the heck!?

I do enjoy the music thought but I dnt agree with the chracters I mean the characters aren't even assasinated they are completely taken over by aliens and seem to be completely different people!

  • I completely agree with you! I ordered the soundtrack to LND just to hear what everything sounds like and I think I threw the cd across the room when I was through. The original was so beautiful and had a great, heart-wrenching ending to it so I can't even fathom why ALW would want to change that (except for money of course). I've read the original novel, Phantom by Susan Kay, and Letters To Erik (I was thinking about it throughout the entire video so it was funny when you mentioned it).

  • ok yes well it is plausable that it could be raouls but i think its more likely to be phantoms but we will never know the actuall explanation

  • ok well it saysd he is musical like erik not raoul did u metion that and christine even knows its his and she says to gustave your real father the points to phantom sooo im pretty sure he is eriks son

  • @TheLaurenk12 I sure did mention it. I'd recommend my other videos before you say some of this stuff because I do talk about it extensively. Christine is musical like her father, so it is possible that gustave inherited his talent from them... ALW just doesn't want people to realize that because it could put another hole his story. For plot purposes, in all probability, yes, he is Erik's son. I'm just saying that there is a lot of speculation in that point, because it is possible he's Raoul's.

  • her i would want that person back he dreams about her and misses her voice so i think he would want her back and he finally has the chance to so he is taking the chance. and he only thinks she is happy with raoul but then when she comes back to him before she was wed and they have sex and she gets pregnant sooooo i think just maby he has a good enough reason to lure her back and he dosnet have to get her to love him agaion she already loves him sdhe loved him all along him she was a bitch and

  • @TheLaurenk12 you can also see my numerous other rants to discover how I feel about the potential errors in everyone assuming that Gustave is Erik's son. That's what they want you to believe, but it is 100% possible that he is Raoul's. Still not a fan of that plot point

  • yes i know nothing will ever live up to phantom but we shouldnt expect anything to . but andrew made something really close soo idk. but yes it has been ten years after the ending yes it was an amazing ending. and raoul changed there are things that changed with erik and christine they had sex before raoul and christine got married oif curse he is going to chage wouldnt you chaged if you had sex with the love of your life. and phantom lured christine back because he couldnt satnd not being with

  • If ALW is going to run his mouth and say that its the best he's written and it's better than the original he damn better well be able to deliver. And he didn't.

I know the story, believe me. No need to explain to me like I have no clue. In my opinion, I think that them having sex before she gets married ruins and cheapens the original, so I don't consider that part, or the sequel, a true continuation of the story, and for many more reasons besides that, I am against this sequel until the end.

  • ok well i just had a big thing typed but got deketed so ill start over

  • Got the CD last week and the music is mind-blowingly awesome. The parallels and tie-ins to Phantom are very well done in my opinion. I know lots of people resent trashing Meg & Raoul & Christine - I've some sympathy for that viewpoint but the music is so good and the story-telling is so masterfully done that I can't help loving this musical. Admittedly the ending is a bit bleak but Phantom was a dark story as well. For me it's about the music and great story telling and LND delivers that IMHO.

  • @MightyCarnac I guess we would have to agree to disagree about it then, because when I heard the CD, I thought the music was alright and the story complete crap and not at all told well. To each their own I guess. Thanks for sharing and not being rude about it though! I hope you get to see the show and enjoy it, if that's what you want!

  • @MightyCarnac Fair enough. To be honest I didn't know that Phantom died in the novel. I have a copy but haven't read it yet. I gather you'd prefer to let him rest in peace

But to those who say that LND has a weak story I'd point out that Phantom has some seemingly absurd plot points as well. For example, kidnapping Christine off the stage during a performance in front of a full house. Not very subtle. But that's showbiz.

    Incidentally, cool tattoo.

  • when i first heard about there being an upcoming sequel i tried to be enthusiastic- i mean, its ALW, and if he could create such an amazing musical, maybe he could successfully pull off a sequel. So i kept an open mind and went to go see it a few weeks ago. It was terrible. Ok, some of the music was lovely e.g. look with your heart, but the plot destroyed everything i loved about the original! Thats just my opinion, im sure some loved it, but i dont think ill be seeing it again..

  • ALW is a musical genious and i love the score however, i agree that the characterisation is a bit off. Too cliched for my liking and I also think the drastic change in raoul's temperament is unrealistic. I can't decide whether I want to see it. Don't want to ruin the first one. I feel less is more in the phantom's case and that the story we were given was enough to deliver the message of their love like you said.

  • Hey, guess what? LOVE NEVER DIES IS BASED OFF THE MUSICAL NOT THE BOOK. The music of the night is over yes, but you know the phantom still loves her. ALW can do what ever the heck he wants to, I get it you don't like it, don't whine about it, that's how life is, ok deal!

  • How do we really know that Erik died at the end of the novel? In literature class we're taught not to take the authors/narrators or characters word for it because we have no guarantee that what they're saying is the absolute truth. This is why we have "show don't tell" There's no proof that Erik died besides LND is a sequel to ALW's musical and NOT the novel and the Phantom doesn't die in the musical. The Phantom is not Erik, they're the same yet different people. P.S I am anti-LND

  • The whole Gustave is the Phantoms soooooo rips off Susan Kays Phantom, the best Phantom book ever.

  • I agree with u!! Although I lied the song Till I hear you sing. Only I hated the movie that cast MY GOD!! UGH

  • I agree with you 100%. i dont agree with a sequeal to poto. i think its a masterpiece and should be left alone. I do like the songs from love never dies, but it really doesnt relate to who the phantom is. I also just finish reading that same book you are holding and is amazing.

  • It just goes to show you, if you make a musical without Cameron Macintosh, you suck. Becuase your musical will never be a hit...

I love your video, and you're pretty spot on.

  • Bravo, couldn't agree more.

  • Oh good lord. Why is it that some people on YouTube can't let people have opinions? Sheesh. Everyone needs to settle down and agree to disagree.

Also, re: animelover12579 and other phans insulting ALW - he has torn the original musical to shreds in more than one interview and essentially out-and-out insulted fans of its "simple" storyline.

  • I think that the sequel is a travesty of what POTO is. I listened to 'Til I Hear You SIng and I loved the song, but it did not sound like the Phantom. I am a huge POTO phan and while I would like to give the sequel a chance, it is not giving me much reason to so far. If someone can have an opinion of loving it immensely before it comes out, someone can already dislike it before it comes out too. Good for you animelover13579! Keep posting and I will always support you!

  • Wow. I don't really understand why she's being attacked for her OPINION. I agree with her, but even if I didn't...there's no need to be irrational about this. Don't take it personally, she's just speaking her mind.

  • @bastiantotalhappy Loving the lack of grammar and spelling...not. And...my point still stands.

  • Comment removed

  • your saying that you dont like the process of christine's son not being raoul's... .the you recommmend susan kay's novel...when the ending is the same..

just wondering.......and yes i will be wlking to dark cellars thank you very much:)

btw..i like your tattoo....i was thinking of betting one in my ankle

  • But the way that the son came into being is vastly different in Susan Kay's novel- Christine goes back and sees Erik before he does.

The problem with love never dies is that it can't be consensual unless there was another meeting between the two between the end of phantom and beginning of LND- unless they explain that, we've been led to believe they haven't seen each other since, which screws up the timeline or the plot by making the kid the Phantom's.

  • Dies*

And thank you, I've gotten many complements on my tattoo, and I love it a lot!!

  • I agree w/ everything you said. And you are funny. And cute.

As long as the original stays on Broadway...that's all that matters to me.

  • I'm hoping this thing will just be over quickly so I can enjoy my Phantom in peace

  • I totally agree with everything you've said! You express your points very well. I love how the video is put together too, very professional.

I too would recommend Phantom by Susan Kay to anyone reading this... it does have faults but it is a good read.

And yay for using Michael Crawford to help get your message across. =)

Here's to hoping the sequel will flop and be forgotten!

*huddles in a corner and reads her trusty Leroux*

  • Also i don't believe for one second that Erik would just accept Raoul and Christine, he may have that slight thought for a moment but it wouldn't stick Erik is not like that at all, of course he wouldn't let it go!

  • @monkeycarter89 The point of the original ending was that yes, Erik accepted that she was going to leave because HE LET HER GO WHEN SHE SAID SHE WOULD STAY. That's his true character, made possible by Christine's love, he becomes a better man

  • And i'm saying that once Christine was gone it would take only a matter of days for him to go back to the ways of before.

I think if people can give all the Phantom books a chance then they should give this a chance. I trust ALW on this one maybe it's just something he has to get out of his system lol

  • People did give this a chance- It's called Phantom of Manhattan and it is almost universally hated

  • If you don't like the idea, don't see it? Simple as.

And i'm sure ALW does care about his fans but he can't please everyone and i'm not saying that the show is a good or bad idea, but personally i would like to see what happened after.

People moan we don't get anything original or new in London and when we finally do, people moan! Just embrace this new musical and if you really think you won't like it...don't see it.

  • @monkeycarter89 I'm pretty sure I either stated or implied that I am not going to see it...

And its not original. Its mooching off the plotline of another musical

  • @monkeycarter89 Great comment. I totally agree. I would imagine that ALW would be surprised and shocked at some of the negatives to Love Never Dies from the so-called fans that you see on youtube. In his mind, he is giving them a whole new show and yet this is how they react? I bet he would stare in disbelief at some of the immature and naive views on display. Phantom is not the fans' property. Anyone could do any version of it at any time if they get the rights - what's the problem?!

  • I'm semi-horrified and offended at your use of the term "so-called fan" What, I'm not a fan because I'm anti-sequel? I think I have pretty valid points to present, as do many, many other phans. I don't care if someone makes another version- go ahead. We're upset about him messing with our beloved Broadway/West End musical.

Please think about what you say before you insult a multitude of people with negativity and insensitivity. I'm allowed to have an opinion without being immature or naive

  • You say 'we're upset' with ALW messing with 'our' musical. So you and your fellow teenage fans own POTO do you? Grow up. POTO is as much or as little yours as it is mine or anyone else's (apart from the legal department at RUG/CM!). The emotional energy you are putting into hating the sequel is making you irrational. You need to recognise that many people are looking forward to the sequel and that you shouldn't criticise something a) you have not seen and b) something you refuse to see anyway!!

  • I said our beloved musical, as in we (the phans) love it a lot. No, of course it isn't mine and I never said it was. I was speaking for a very large group of people that do not like the idea of a sequel, especially what ALW has cooked up. Is it irrational for me to speak out against something I don't agree with? I know people are looking forward to it- If you're allowed to look forward to it, I'm allowed to criticize is based on official information, and I'm allowed to express my opinions

  • @animelover13579 You said quite clearly 'we're upset about him messing with our beloved musical'. That is entirely irrational and immature. So what if you don't agree with it, it is only a show. There are probably loads of people who loved the original book but hated the musical, but they don't go on youtube having nervous breakdowns about it. You don't have to see it, so why (in your own words) 'rant' about it. The story does not have to go on if you don't want it to, so just don't see it.

  • I apologize for my use of the word 'beloved' instead of 'favorite'- I'm sorry it confused you so much!

I don't really consider this a nervous breakdown, I'm merely expressing my opinion, and I don't see anything irrational or immature about exercising my right of Freedom of Speech... SO what if people don't make videos about everything they don't like? I chose to, this is a public place and I can express my opinion.

  • And no, I can't just ignore it. Even if I don't see it, ALW is touting it as the official sequel. People keep telling me just don't see it. Well, if it is telling those that do see it what the "official" story is, I can't just ignore it, because in my opinion, the story should end where it did in the original, but ALW is telling the world that that isn't it, and that is what people who are newer to Phantom will believe, which to me negates the end of the original. IF it didn't, I wouldn't be mad

  • You don't have to agree with what I'm saying, but please, don't insult me because I'm against something that you like. I'm allowed to criticize whatever I want.

Please stop being rude and insulting whenever you comment on my video. If you don't agree with me, don't watch the video- it clearly says in the description that I am against the sequel. You can easily not watch if you like the idea of the sequel and don't want to hear me complain about it.

  • @animelover13579 I actually think that you and many other phans have been quite offensive to ALW, who gave you Phantom in the first place! Actually, I have as much a right to criticise your stance as you have mine. If you don't want people to disagree, don't post. And to use the line 'you can easily not watch' re your opinions seems comically ironic; if that is your theme then why does this video even exist, considering that is your entire approach to Love Never Dies?!!

  • Ok, so because I'm not a paid critic, my opinion is offensive to ALW? What if some musical critic said this opening night? Would it be offensive? NO, cause its a review. I'm reviewing the sequel based off of information from press releases and articles, so I have a right to do so without offending anyone. A true artist would want criticism to help them improve their work.

  • You can criticize me all you want, if you have an argument as to WHY you want the sequel, not why my opinion is dumb. What proof is there in the original that the story should continue? I'm criticizing the idea of the show, you are criticizing me but not actually defending the show. Calling me names isn't helping your stance, because you aren't backing it up. I am.

  • And the difference here is I am criticizing the idea of a sequel, it's like criticizing a movie or a book, and I am expressing my opinion on the sequel, I am not criticizing YOUR opinion of the sequel. My opinion isn't going to change the course of the story like the sequel will. Notice I didn't say anything against the people who like the sequel. I didn't call them stupid or immature or anything. I'm not dissing you like you are me, I am pointing out my proof, which you haven't shown me

  • So, I acknowledge that i was wrong to say you can ignore my video. Given the fact that you felt the need to watch and comment on my video, you are proving my point that i have a right to comment on the sequel and not just ignore it because I feel strongly about it. So no, I can't just not watch it, just like you couldn't not watch my video.

  • Comment removed

  • perhaps I should have said "favorite" instead of "beloved" Would that have been clearer to you?

  • Andrew Lloyd Webber doesn't care about his fans or their opinions, so nothing we could ahve said or doen would have prevented the sequel. It'll flop. Don't worry. I love how someone said it would be a "great idea" to go see the first one and then "Pop over to the Adelphi" and see the second one. i am in LOndon when the second one premiers and there's no way in hell I'm doing that. Great rant. I completely agree.

  • you start talking about the ending of the book, thats just what the musical is based off of and we don't really know what happens to the phantom in the end of the stage show. the movie is not an exact replication of the stage show so that ending does not count to the story... and the end of the stage show that you play, that just means that story is over.. not done for good.. AWL has said its not entirely phantom of manhattan... so just see how it is before you judge off of some press releases

  • I'm just saying that anything after the ending of the musical or book is complete fiction and isn't actually part of the original story. The original is what I know and love, and I don't think anything needs to be added to it.

I also never said anything about the movie...

Like I have said time and time again, I will wait to see if it is good, but I think a sequel ruins the ending of the original completely

  • i think i am the only person who keeps saying wait until LND has been seen to make any sort of judgement on it. They always say don't judge a book by its cover don't they? I am going to see LND on 12th June 2010 and am really looking forward to it, i love Phantom and Ramin is my fave Phantom. I mean if it does suck then it won't run for long then no one can really y it ruined Phantom. I don't think the original Phantom will end anytime soon. But no one knows how good LND will be yet.

  • I'm just saying that i think the sequel in general ruins the ending of the original, no matter how good it will be. The original ending was tragic, beautiful and perfect for the story, and it doesn't need to be continued.

  • I love that song you played. My fav song in the whole musical. I do admit that th logo isn't all that cool. Another idea for the phantom getting christen is that raoul dies. Where did you get the book I can't find it?

  • Which book? Phantom by Susan Kay? I think I ordered it off of a British site. You have to look around for it, it's been out of print for a while. It can be pretty expensive too.

I got Letters to Erik on Amazon

  • Cont. Hee, oh and awesome video, you put out some good points, and I think I'll check out that Erik's Letters book, thanks, I'm all for the original Erik (my second favorite has got to be Michael Crawford-which I'm glad you used for the end of The Music of the Night instead of Gerard Butler, don't hate him, just not my favorite-and my third, Charles Dance in the 1990 T.V ver.)!

  • I'm so scared about the sequel...SCARED! Please, please, please, dear God, please don't make Raoul some wife beating drunkard! I'm all for Erik and Christine together, but Christine loved Raoul and Erik let her go, he better had let her go for a good reason or I am going to be ticked off! ARGHH! I'm so frustrated about this, there's nothing to comprehend what I think about the sequel! It's not like I despise it's making, or love it....I'm just worried it'll be a disgrace to the Phantom!

  • I totally agree with you and i'm so glad you see the points I'm trying to make!!!

  • I've been saying this to everyone I know! The sad thing is, is that more than-no pretty much all of my friends don't even know WHAT the Phantom of the Opera is so all they get to hear is me ranting on about how I hope the sequel won't be a disaster!! So I feel all alone (I know, it's hard to believe that someone couldn't know what Phantom of the Opera is....I mean I super obsess over the Phantom and he's like the main subject of my conversations and they still don't even look it up...so sad)!!!

  • OH SHIT YOUR HAIR CHANGED MAGICALLY BEHIND THE BOOK.

Anywho, I'll see it if it does not mimick Phantom of Manhattan too closely, and if the music is good, and if Erik's character is not ruined by it. I have faith in Ramin Karimloo, seeing as he's a Canadian (and therefor I MUST SUPPORT HIM) but I'm not so fond of ALW...

  • i understand what ur trying to say, but i am soooo for the sequel i mean from the press launch (which i was there for ) the music sounds amazing and i cant wait to see Ramin and Sierra in the show.i am also seein the show on the 20th feb which i cant wait for,i know ALW has taken a big risk but most of andrews show are successful and it just ends the phans to support it.

  • just because its ALW and it might be successful doesn't mean it will be good or a proper continuation of the story, which is my fear

  • ok but we dont know anything about the story ALW hasnt told us anything, but i do agree POTO is THE BEST SHOW EVER!!!!
