Do you know that your computer wasn't really "copying" the file? Both folders was on one drive, so windows just made another "entry" in the table to the folder you need. If you would copy from drive to drive, it'll take much more time cause it'll now really copy info to another drive

or to open appdata type 'run' into the search box at the bottom of the system. one of the options should be a little blue box with lines behind it. click on that and type '%appdata%' that load the folder for windows XP vista and 7

An easier way to get to the saves folder (should work on all operating systems): Open Minecraft, go to "Mods and Texture Packs" and click on "Open texture pack folder", go to the folder above (i.e. the .minecraft folder) and then the saves folder.

@MineStg2 All depends on how you install it. Typically if you do a clean installation, but opt out of formatting the drive, you can have Windows 7 put all the old files into a folder called 'Windows.old". Not sure if it matters which version you're installing from.

Just wondering, can't you just go to run, type in %appdata% and click .minecraft and go from there. that's how I just did it. Idk if you were doing this in a specific way, but it seems like this would be a lot less steps and takes a little less time. Just putting it out there.

@AntVenom the %appdata% works with all versions of windows the %appdata% is a enviroment or system variable ( dont remember how they called) windows have more like this i think you can edit or view some in system .-> advanced options -> advanced( tab) ->enviroment variables ( latest button except ok, cancle and apply button ).

for winxp and up im sure :P probably and win 2000
