BETA BUILD. it did in beta cuz they hadnt taken it out of the game yet. they made the button combo trigger instant suicide. they have taken it out of halo 3 the retail game however so its no longer an issue.

load up halo 2, grab a battle rifle, and hit B X R while you're pointing the battle rifle at someones head at melee range. you'll melee, which removes the shield, the X button cancels the animation where mastercheif moves his hands back into shooting position, and then R shoots. It's an instant kill.
