Yes - if you listen to the album "Odessey and Oracle" (this track is on there), there's Mellotron on quite a few songs - most notably 'Care of Cell 44', 'Brief Candles' and 'Hung Up On A Dream'.
i know i'm not the only one here, but i wish i had one of those. the smoothness of its sound freaks me out. it would sound sooo good with my 1966 acoustic gibson.
I don't know the original -> my next clip to watch! I like the sound of it and find mellotrons fascinating vintage soundmachines. What kind of tape is used in a mellotron? Reel to reel format? How wide and what speed? I like the lo-fi element of it.
The tape starts off as reel-to-reel when it has the sounds recorded to it (and it's 3/8th inch wide, and 7.5 inches per second at normal running speed), but to be used in the machine it is cut into individual strips of tape, one for each note.
That's just the noises of the keyboard itself when each key springs back to its 'rest' position after being released. Sounds considerably more pronounced on here because it's recorded with a cheap mic on a camera phone!
I KNEW HER....

On the left hand side after 0:04, what note are you playing? (I have MelloTron loops and am trying to recreate this), btw: love the vids :-D

Odessey and Oracle. Absolutely beautiful music from a overlooked gem of an album!

the Nord Wave synthesizer surprisingly does an unbelievable job reproducing the Mellotron's sounds.
