Corporations, like the ones into nanotech research, act beyond any accountability to the public and environment. In the exact same way than Monsanto did for decades, they'll contaminate the very fabric of life on Earth, and it'll need a huge wave of public opposition to stop them. AND if we mindlessly support this growing industry like you do, we'll have an even bigger problem in a few years. And you will be affected by it like everyone.
No tech is inherently. It's about who controls it!
@freeriding666 why is it dangerous tech, why? because it will make its inventors wealthy - same thing's true of every other tech revolution.
it if puts money in the hands of corporations, so what, they re-invest in even more, better, tech. I agree they should give up copyright quicker but those same laws were in place during the electronics revolution and for a time it was impossible for the common man to tinker with electronics as well. Stop being so negative, there's no call for it.
@alex29443 No, because it's already OUT OF CONTROL. If there are people who get rich, I couldn't care less. Consolidation is what is worrying.
Science did not develop to make the few wealthy at the expense of the rest of the people AND Nature. It's about understanding the universe and use it for a common good, like curing people or cleaning up our mess (something that we rarely do these days).
Some of you are reasoning exactly like criminally mad scientists. Wake the fuck up!
@alex29443 I didn't see anywhere in old patents that it was illegal to experiment with electronic parts, and the HAM radio subculture is one of the proofs of how electronics are accessible to the public. Electronics designs were patented, not the principles. While today, big businesses like Monsanto go as far as patenting plants and cattle. Furthermore, that doesn't answer the problem of how can we modify or investigate into nanotech systems.
@alex29443 ...and I wanna be positive! I wanna have the power over technology, the freedom to create stuff and make it public. But control and consolidation of privileges are inherently negative, hostile behaviors, because it's depriving me (us) from it.
@freeriding666 Monsanto is unusual, most companies are competing to be 'good' because they care about their public image - anyone CAN do tests with nano-tech, so long as they don't break patents, the same thing happened with the electronics industry, it is an issue of capital.
It is inherently difficult to do nano-tech a.t.m. large corporations are essential to even make such focused capital possible, and everyone benefits (so long as there is competition).
@alex29443 What do you know about "life"? Most people in modern techno-industrial society live a non-life, made out of spectacle and Not asking because I assume something, just that the concept of life is very blurry and misused these days.
There are corporations, and there is corporatism, which is corporate interests using government power to protect their monopoly. Free markets are a good idea, but it's also creating it's own contradictions, that shut it down with consolidation.
@alex29443 ...and, yeah, theoretically, anyone can get into nanotech. But who will? You need many years of both tightly-controlled studies to get to this point, and even then, the most brilliant innovations and discoveries are often shut down by the so-called scientific community and academia. Today,s science world seems to be in a pretty bad shape,
My solution? Open source science! Intellectual property is the central problem, creating as much hassles than the Spanish Inquisition!
@freeriding666 also - just because nanotech is at the embryonic research stage now doesn't mean that it always will be. when the techniques for creating nano-materials become better understood I have no doubt whatsoever that costs will plummet and more and more people will be able to get involved in nanotech (though first-rate new tech will probably still be helped by the concentrated capital in larger companies)
With electronics, just about anyone could understand, modify and improve the tech, with a bit of electronics know-how. Now it takes expensive laboratories and equipment multimillion dollars licenses to not only access nanotech, but to make it better, meaning that public scrutiny is almost impossible from the start!
This is DANGEROUS tech, folks, because it is in the hands of the very same people responsible for things like the BP oil and the nuke plants disasters: unresponsive investors.
Another mad guru... You people just don't realize the evil behind nanotechnology. It's the very same problem than biotech, only deeper, that is to take scientific control of the public away from him, and put it under STRICT, monopolistic control of corporations.
Not even government can overlook nanotech research, they have to BEG for it. Because the way nanotech, and scientific research works these days, it is extremely controlled, to a point third parties cannot overlook the process!
How many Lies do you think you have told in your life? Have you ever stolen anything, even something small? Have you ever looked at a person with lust? Ever used GOD's name as a curse word? If so, GOD sees you as a Lying, thieving, blasphemous, adulterer at heart. The Guilty will end up in Hell. That's not GOD's will. You broke GOD's laws, but Jesus paid your fine! (IF) you Repent, and trust in Christ alone, GOD will forgive every sin you have ever committed, and grant you Eternal life!
@roikings83 It's probably possible. One of the main advantage of nanotech as it is studied is that it usually uses only abundant elements. But we are probably very far from there. You should always keep an healthy layer of skepticism when you are presented with a bleeding edge tech. There are plenty of other possible solutions to the problem of energy. We have no way to know is nanotech will be the best.
@abralaventana He is a great guy who deserved to be heard. Our world as is. Is a terrible place we destroy our enviroment and starved other people over greed. technology shall set us free is time to put our differences aside claim the earth as a common heritage and become one united world we are all humans at the end of the day regardless of our backgrounds, ethniticy, religious belief etc. We need to change for the sake of our childrens. Check out Jacque fresco and you will understand.
@incognito88n As you probably know, Nicola Tesla's technology of free energy was kept quiet by the elites/industrialists who wanted to sell us fossil fuel, not caring about the enviroment. Let's hope this time around, things will go smoothly because more of us are awakened and let the Truth be known!!
@DreamingCDtranform I am aware of who really runs the Govts. These greedy money grabbers /industrialists / Illuminatis... J P Morgan being one of them, who stopped Tesla's free energy ideas. At least now, with the aid of Internet, more people are waking up and this time round, we are the people's power, the 99%.
@DreamingCDtranform Mark Twain and a host of others seen his work first hand.. light bulbs that light up just by touch?? this was in the mid 30s I believe.. Many scientist back then didnt believe in quantum physics/string theory.. so what they said is outdated, biased, and self reserved so as to hold on to the positions they had.. TESLA DID harness free energy.. stop scratching your head and wake up man..
@Quansan52 The elite don't want to sell fossil fuel. If this technology can be mass-produced, people aren't going to make it in their own homes; they will buy it from the *same* elite who have an easier time because they no longer need to operate an undersea drill.
@incognito88n In a word... GREED! Too many power players have an interest in seeing that this sort of tech not see the light of day, at least not yet. They will converge to stifle these efforts that could help sustain impoverished communities the world over. You know this...
hell yeah - I assume this stuff is still amazingly expensive

@freeriding666 life I'm defining here as 'non-death' and it has never been fair, for any species, or for anybody.
I don't understand what you mean by a non-life, people ask more questions these days than ever before, look at the internet, at google.
There are free trade acts that give governments the directive to break monopolies.
what innovations have been shut down? new patents are sky-rocketing.
Are you really suggesting that corporations are as bad as the 16th century church?
