@armenians100 the bass line on this song is so easy to play yet so tiring and easy to mess up on the timing which in a sense makes it hard to play. confusing huh?
I was a teenage guitar player and these were my boys !!! my first album I ever bought was a Ventures album. I love these guys and thank them for the memories, now if I could find a Mosrite to buy ......
i swear this shits the punk rock of the 60s i could mosh to this! well i have kinda cause i have seen agent orange cover it and jfa also played some surf music, it was a big influence to alot awesome 80s hardcore punk bands
Hold on... Are you saying that THEY started the massive Western-Japanese cultural mash-up with all the weid-ass fashion and one dimensional comics, not to mention the bad music with even the worse singers?
Those... BASTARDS! Don't they realize what they've done?! We must travel back in time and arrange an accident so all their instruments break before the show!
The Ventures smoked back in the day. They could play as well as most any regular vocal rock band of the 60s. Three albums alone - Ventures in Space (1963) - The Fabulous Ventures (1964) and Walk, Don't Run '64 (1964) are all you need to hear. All three kick ass and feature some fantastic playing and nasty guitar work. Even when they covered an instrumental hit by someone else like "Green Onions" or "Wipe Out" or "Pipeline", the Ventures versions kicked ass too.
People, people, people! I wholeheartedly agree that this music is way beyond belief but, please, watch the language. We just don't need to see that filth in print. It is bad enuff that we get this puke in verbal form wherever we go now.
The announcer is priceless. In the 60s recordings of various acts performing in The UK, US, or Europe it was not uncommon to hear a deadpan announcement saying Ladies and Gentlemen The Jimi Hendrix Experience, or some other band, and the announcer sounded as if he had been awakened from a deep sleep to give the announcement.. This guy sounds as if he is really enjoying the show himself, and most likely is. Also great sound quality for a live recording! Great band though and that always helps.
I had to see a pipeline on t.v. to understand this song. It was an instrumental version of surfing. My stepfather played this with his friend and boy was it the coolest thing. They're two 60 something old men but they still rock. And this album makes me think of them jamming.
when i first heard that line i thought he was referring to the beach boys, hahahha! anyway, i don't think jimi was trying to disrespect surf music in any way. besides the blues i think one of his greatest influences has got to be surf music. cause link wray was using distortion way before him and dick dale was bending strings way before him. i think jimi was just joking around.
so the grimmies and the hodads are groovin to the surf beat.. in the 60's i remember ya gave yer girl a st. christopher not a ring.. but ya had to steal it from the store.. to prove she's worth the risk .. ( i think the store people knew and turned their heads a bit ). .but that was the 60's.. lol
@DihColorado They were excellent and very underrated imo. We had a LOT of excellent musicians to enjoy back then....Musical talent really mattered in those days.
@DihColorado This is Filth in a good good sense! Lik you say, It was done it the 60's! Raw, and never repeated, dubbed, played wit der Hearts! Musically phenomenol! what where they wrere doing, when they came up with this song...Hmmmm??????
