  • is that a gold lens on there i have one on my helmet there alot better then the black ones in my opinion

  • i'll make sure to ask him along with more curious question from watching your video.thanks.

  • Q: im learning to tig pipe next semester and need to pass my box test. I've been on you tube, and find some people dab when they feed, i melt, then slowly drag. Is dabing any better? I though about the whole camera in the helmet thing too, hehehe

  • Thanks for your question. Your instructor will be able to tell you the benefits of each, I'm sure... I do it because we're known for high quality, 'decorative' welds. It's easier to get a row of dimes dabbing than dragging.

  • get an autodark, then not only can you see the work before and after, you can set the shade.

  • Believe me, I've tried... I taped my camera to the inside of a Jackson auto dark helmet, but the focus sensor wouldn't see past the lens on the helmet. I can get it so it's an ok brightness, but the focus and exposure is way off.

  • I know this will sound like a stupid question, but as i am just learning about welding i was wondering if you coul tell me the actual process happening with tig....In other words is it the tip that heats the metal you are welding and the rod is the filler?? I love the results of the tig but i would just like to get a better understanding of exactly whas happening during the process.

  • not a stupid question at all. basically, it goes something like this: the tip creates an arc with the work piece. I'm controlling the 'heat' with a foot pedal. each time it gets brighter, I add a dab of filler rod, then reduce the amps, move over a bit, then start over. each puddle is four operations: heat, filler, cool, move over. I hope I was able to answer your question.

  • dont you find you get wicked coldlap that way?? the rod cools the puddle for you doesnt it??

  • Now this I like, video recording from behind a mask, all the other vids are so bright you can't see anything. This shows the spark. It's a little too dark still. Try an oxy acetl welder's mask for the camera which is less dark since oxy doesn't produce the UV like arc does and therefore more light can pass.

  • Thanks for the comment... I actually recently taped a screen to the front of my camera and tried that, but I was too far away to see anything detailed. I'll try it again soon and see if I can get in a bit closer.

  • I tried a torch mask, but it was too bright... I'm going to keep working at this - I'd really like to be able to show what I'm seeing.

  • yes u can use an stick machine for tig, just swap the leads and hook up ur tig torch. and ozzy there is no fucking trigger on a tig torch! its the gas, and its a knob!

  • I believe the trigger he's talking about is similar to the gun that came with my Lincoln square wave 255... it starts/stops the pulses.

  • Can i use an arc welder as a powersource for the tig or not?

  • Sorry, I'm not sure.

  • yes you can, most people do

  • yes you can, most people do

  • no

    you cant

  • I think you can

I remember using a TIG welder that used a arc welder as the power source but then used a addaptor for the tig.

and like many inverter tigs the also have stick ability.

but to be honest the unit I used was crap, it didnt have a nice freq was a scratch start in all not a nice thing to have to use!!!!!

ps spent many a year as a cetifide stainless welder, no I teach Tig

  • hey dude,im a tig welder too,,but i dont use pedal...the trigger its on the gun,,its a little button...i weld stainless steel with 308 and 316 wire...but i've never work with the pedal..its weird for me...its that hard?

i see that the volts goes up and down,,and with the one that i weld its a constant volt..i always put my machine in 120...depends on the tipe of job of course...

but i would like to learn with the pedal...looks interesting....nice job buddy

  • Hi

The foot pedal isn't hard once you learn how to do it. It takes a lot of coordination. I'm a drummer, so I picked it up pretty quickly.

  • well thats good,,i hope 1 day i'll learn how to use that pedal,,but for now i have to keep working with the one i have on the job and keep making big money, lol!!!!right? well thanks for comment back,,keep welding but be 'carefull with the gases.....take care buddy.....

  • In this video, I'm welding an adjuster.

  • nice
