  • i hate pros they make it look so easy

  • Wonder if polymer clay would work...

  • @xNerdyBabezx

NO!!!!! poly clay is not the medium to use. for one it is poisonous when heated well above 300 degrees. and a pipe can get that hot sometime hotter.. most like too it will catch fire.

  • You saved my life :) I was out of paper now I have a pipe :) thank you

  • wish you can make me one...esp. cause you're the last one who makes clay ones in Holland

  • 3:45 cracked me up, worst anti-smoking speech ever xd

  • Absolutely nothing! The Guilds have been abandoned since the late 18th century.

  • What would happen if you tried to make clay pipes without being a guild member?

  • I just turned on my first kiln to fire my first clay pipes I made. I could not find any info on clay pipe making guilds, anyone able to point me in the right direction? Thanks

  • listen to this guy when ur stoned

  • Kerpal6 tries to insult the maker of this movie. Visiting his/her site make me belief he/she deals in sex movies. Anyway Kerpal6 proves to lack civilization. I better stay away from this Kerpal.

  • i always wondered how they were made. Having found lots of broken ones in in ploughed fields.

  • i thoughrally enjoyed myself watching this video thanks

  • how do you join the guild? and what guild is it?

  • How cool is this. In the age we live in now no one appreciate true artisans such a shame.

  • So can someone still become a pipe maker? that is with clay.

  • Indeed it is the best to fire the clay. Outside glazing was originally done only for the "luxurious" versions. In other words: glazing is perfectly safe. It will be safe to smoke your pipe as long as it is well made. The worst that can happen is cracking

  • i made one in art class and only glazed the outside and its been fired in a kiln, so would it be safe for somone to use?

  • @filmer380 Yes

  • @DaltonPipes I have an old brass mold that was plowed up by my grandfather in the late 1920s...I do have some photos of it i can send . Do you have any knowledge of these old molds? Worth etc....

  • I'll make a skull kinda like one :D

  • awesom

  • can yu buy the clay at walmart

  • Dear Krackannv, thanks for your very sensible remark. I have NOTHING with drugs.

  • that moustache is killer!!

  • @ohvnaq I plan on getting a mustache like that when I am older

  • Why does everyone who hears 'pipe' instantly seem to assume they're all used for drugs?! These are tobacco pipes for gods sake. Brilliantly made and beautifully crafted tobacco pipes which should not be used for anything other than tobacco and display!

  • @krackannv . amen but those nice tobacco pipes smoke realy well with substinces other then tobacco.

  • sad...

  • May you live on forever, and continue your work :)! I'm going to be making a clay pipe myself here in a bit in Art. It was awesome watching your video, now i have a great idea on how to actually make one ^^

  • that dude is rockin a tight mustache

  • hey, does anyone know were i can get a mold? if not can someone tell me what i can use to make one? thx

  • You can make a mold out of a pipe onto for example porselaine

  • what clay is he using?

  • @combatcommand I don't know but you can get a box of clay at a craft store for like 7 dollars. That's what I use.

  • @DaltonPipes I tried that, it turns out the type of clay i got was full of silicates.

  • @combatcommand What's wrong with silicates, they come from the earth and are natural too. Once fired I don't think it matters. M

  • @combatcommand What's wrong with silicates, they come from the earth and are natural too. Once fired I don't think it matters. Maybe you know something I don't?

  • @DaltonPipes Considering that i don't own a kiln, it would be like melting plastic in my mouth.

  • @combatcommand Maybe we're not talking about the same kind of clay, AMACO is the brand I use. Ceramic shops fire things for a price, before I got a kiln one place charged 6 dollars apiece.

  • @DaltonPipes Yeah, i got AMACO too, but i've read strong warnings about burning it.

And i can't have one fired for me. Not by a professional, at least.

  • @combatcommand Well hell send it to me, I'll fire it for you.

  • @DaltonPipes No-can-do, but thanks for the offer.

  • nice stash lol

  • Could I make one of these with river clay and no kiln?

  • Not with normal clay!

Maybe there is another material that only needs drying.

I have no knowledge of that.

  • Ive made 3 clay pipes, and the clay i used was air drying clay. They all work just fine.

  • does it? i made 2 of them in art, but im worried they might crack under heat

  • Nah, unless the upper rim of the bowl is thin, then itll just chip. Aslong as you made the pipes sorta thick all around then theyll all work fine. I gotta redo my bong's slide bowl cause its cracking at the bottom cause its too thin. But all of my pipes have never cracked or chipped. Exept the first, and i made it in my art class and it was waay to thin.

  • Iron stone ? mine never have, old school 70's stoner pharaphernalia

  • @KMFDM42099

Is it pape based? I used air dry two but every time it cracks while drying.

  • water based.

  • @19simba42 yea u can its called bush craft

  • @19simba42 Well i just made fives like those using red clay...

  • I've done that before and it worked fine

  • wicked, thanks man.

  • @combatcommand yes its caled an art coled bushcraft its a usefuel skill to learn

  • @combatcommand . clay normaly works well without firing. just be carefull they are very prone to breaking if held to hard

  • @combatcommand use fimo polymer clay, u can bake it in a normal oven ,

  • @Bpositivetothemax polymer clay is not safe for smoking

  • Where can one get pipe molds?

  • As far as I know you can't buy them. You have to make them yourself or have them made by a toolmaker.

  • I have ca. 25 nineteenth century european clay pipe molds for sale. Contact me through my website WorldWideWebDOTthe-curiosity-shopDOTnl

  • why is there a dutch flag?

  • Because Radio Batavia is from Holland

  • meh friend made a huge shroom pipe.

  • where do you get the die? I want to make them but I can't find anyplace to get the die for it

  • @jmp5255 thats actually the color of the clay there are several colors of clay

  • You are retarted :D

  • those would be great in holland if u kno what i mean

  • yup im making a pipe out of clay babay time to get my weed on

  • i would smoke so much weed out of that giant long one

  • yeah lol

  • oh heck yes

  • my computer wont let me watch the video cuz its slow

    but i make them

  • minimum of about 1800 degrees F

At about 1100 F clay goes through quartz inversion, depending on the type of clay (earthenware is low fire at about 1850, Stoneware is high fire at about 2300 F) the clay "matures" at these higher temps. The glaze is like glass mixed with clay... sort of. They are also formulated to flux (melt) at specific temps. Usually you fire it twice.

This must be done in a kiln, not an oven.

You can build a propane kiln at home for about $150-200. Pro kilns run $1000+

  • My favorite is the one twisted into a pretzel :D

  • I'm gonna make one at home and smoke weed in it!

  • YEAH! :D i wanna do that too. Just to have a special piece instead of one someone else made.

  • the power you invest into your own personal pipe is no laughing matter. The more you hold, and meditate with it, the more sacred it becomes. This is quite literally known and referred to as a "power object". You must never let anyone else handle this though, as it is your power invested in it and if someone were to drop it, or break it, then who knows what could happen.

  • lol. i just meant that shit's made to be shared.

  • do you think it'd be harmful?

  • Clay pipes were excellent for smoking, since the"clay" absorbed the tabacco juices.

These pipes have NOTHING to do with drugs!!!

In the past pipe smoking contests were organized. Who could do the longest with one filling of a pipe. Big fun.

  • are clay pipes good for smoking?

  • haha i meake pipes in my ceramics all tghe time and sell them to my friends: anyone know how much i should sell them for?

  • i'd say $8 to $15 each depending on quality and size

    how do you make them?

  • that would be cool to have the title: master clay pipe maker

  • Can anyone tell me where to learn to make claypipes like in this video! Idident catch this makes name, can anybady help me..

    thank you

    Roy

  • Maybe you could contact the Gouda Municipal museum

  • i wish i could be him

  • i made a bowl from clay in art class wors prty good got a carb and everything

  • yeah me too

  • lol same here.

  • Clay pipes can be cleaned by placing them in a fires hot coals. Or by placing them in a kiln as long as the heat is less then when they were originally fired.

  • the material is baked clay/pottery. The material is very brittle, It cant be cleaned.

Some clay pipes are glazed. If they are also glazed on the inside, maybe you can clean such a pipe.

  • How do you clean these pipes?

  • water

  • Very good video.. nice to see how clay pipes were made.. thanks

  • great vid. very cool

  • neat. some of those pipes are gorgeous. i just bought a 16 inch tavern pipe. i wish it could have a curve to it and have a design on the bowl, but those are out of my price range. too bad i just can't get a mold and a needle and make my own.

  • The move was about the LAST pipe maker in Holland. He is retired and both his collection and his molds are in the municipal museum of Gouda.

Tanks for looking at this movie.

  • I just bought a 6 inch clay pipe today, imported from England. It really smokes well, and only had to be lit once. This video shows an art-form which is still alive and well. EBay has quite a few clay pipes in their listings. Thanks for the video posting...

  • wow cool video...thanx

  • Too bad that smoking is being outlawed. I just started collecting different pipes to smoke from.

  • where is it being outlawed?

  • thats cool

  • Tnx. Its a great video. as a pipe smoker i think its great.

  • No, I am the moviemaker

  • Are you the pipe maker? Very cool, man!

  • to bad the culture of pipe smoking and making is dying out. hey maybe pipes will come back in style like old hats.

  • amazing! This is pure art

  • Thank you for your response. I try to mavies that inform and entertain at the same time. "Let's be amazed about mankind together".

  • I am happy I could show you

  • I've always wondered how to make clay pipes.

  • I am happy I could show you
