Let's give due credit to Don Watson for the words, and (depending on whose interpretation of events you want to accept) Watson's influence in propelling Keating to make what would be a controversy that could easily be used politically against Labor at a time when it was highly vulnerable to attacks that would detach the blue collar voters who resented the "special privilieges" of "minority interests" that the conservative's polling had said was a winning line in the suburbs.
