  • The contents of the text are criticism of an introduction of Tokyo and the politics of Tokyo.

A lot of parodies were made.

  • No doubt the tarriers will be complaining to the Irish embassy in Tokyo about this.

  • sing that n glasgow in you get a 5yr jail sentence

  • This song is a characteristic song which expressed it amusingly, though attachment is shown in land called Tokyo. The famous place in Tokyo is made into words.

For example, they are Tokyo Station and Asakusa.

  • 音の切れ、表現の幅も広くていいですね。何より表情(演奏者も音も)がいい!!

  • るっちゃんのアコーディオンがキレキレで素晴らしいですな

  • Not completely, but I know one section is about various Tokyo landmarks (most of them now demolished either by a 1923 earthquake or by American bombers in WW2), and another is mocking the Japanese trend towards Westernization.

  • The song remains a popular with brass bands, and its tune has been adapted to other popular songs, including "Billy Boys" and "Come In, Come In". It was also sung by a carpetbagger in Gone with the Wind.

  • @tsukuda1964

Silly question... what are they talking about in this version? It always strikes me as so odd to hear the Japanese sing an old American folk song like this, though I'm sure with a completely different set of words and theme.

  • This is so cool. A Japanese busker version of "Marching Through Georgia?" Doesn't get any better than this. I wonder if there were any Japanese-Americans in the Union Army with Sherman's troops. Love the accordion player, too. March on Nippon!

  • The lyrics are about post war Japan. Don't think were any Japanese Union soldiers.

  • @Thx1138d I know there were some Chinese soldiers in the Union Army, so it is not impossible there were a few Japanese, perhaps out of New York or in a Western unit from California. Be an interesting piece of Civil War research. Regardless, I love this performance. We should play this more in the USA.

  • I did not know that. Thanks for educating me.

  • wow...nice job.

  • てんぷrrrrrrら~♪

I worry: he falls from the chair.

  • Did he sing the original lyrics?

  • Comment removed

  • @Thx1138d Nope, this version is based off a 1917 rewrite which changed the subject matter of the lyrics to talk about society and politics in Tokyo.

  • Are you familiar with the original lyrics?

  • Does this mean we get to burn Japan? Oh wait, we totally did. I'm gonna go watch Sportscenter...

  • wow thats crazy cool I would never expect to hear Marching through Georgia in Japan
