  • During the demonstration when sitting in the chair, aren't the chair legs being substituted for your own? Could this be done suspended from a harnesses such as a "swiss seat" with no direct connection to the ground at all.

It seems that the tailbone and hip can connect to the ground through the chair the same way we can still root through our shoes.

  • Yes, it's fake

  • What the fk? 这也太假了吧!

  • Yi Chuan is a more modern style - derived from xing i or hsing i - which focuses especially at the developement of 'chi'. On one of the yi chuan sites yichuankungfu com they have a lot of vids where a more martial use of chi is shown.

see yichuankungfu com - gallery - expression

  • For those having a hard time understanding that fa jin can be done " by little old ladies " , the secret is in the difference in attention location between the pusher and the returner . Attention is internal energy looking for intention ( chi ) .

  • fake shit, ud never move anyone doing this, try doing this in ufc young or old see what happens to you

  • What you are posting is really junk and nothing more... Show me you sparring using YOUR VERSION OF Taijiquan... But... I know you can't because you have never put this into practice. This is just regurgitated "hippie bull shit" left over from the 70's...

  • This three part lesson can be very clarifying about the practice of tai chi chuan. It shows what to look for in order to evolve in the art. Thank you very much Mr. Phillips.

  • @dakibocikapera you have to feel the inner chi first before you can use it outer and in other to do that you should try to open all your gates first and try to draw in the chi into your navel to store your chi. I reccomnd you read the book Healing Light of the Tao by master Mantak Chia . Its a very useful book!

  • @dakibocikapera In other to learn it you first have to believe in the (chi) with breathing the thing i recommend is read the book Healing Light of the Tao by Mantak Chia A great teacher and writer of chi gung

  • This look like some kind of "jedy" trick ? This guy have a DVD or something to learn ?

  • @dakibocikapera its all about feeling the energy first so that you can move it. by training you mind, body, and soul to feel energy(Chi) by meditating and calming your mind to feel the chi first. Try breathing threw your nose and abdominal breathing to relax yourself so you can connect to your inner-self. and the microcosmic orbit

  • @dakibocikapera its all about feeling the force but in other to feel the energy you have to train your mind, body, and soul to feel to energy(Chi) by meditation. calming the mind to relax. always relax to meditate

  • as i know ,when a man practices regularly and keep on it ,when he or she become old,i mean when they are 50years old or elder,it will decrease the chances of strok and Paralysis caused by fall down

  • He jumped.

What do you mean by not using biomechanics?

  • dude. you suck. go and do gardening

  • Love your videos and method of teaching Michael.

I hope to see more soon

  • I clearly saw the guy pulling his legs in when you "pushed" him.

  • I like your presentation. I currently practice push hands and taichi. I used to do external martial arts in my 20s. Now that I am late 30s i have moved on to TCC and push hands with a Chinese Sifu here in China. I totally understand your video but doing it is another thing altogether. I hope to learn more from you> please tell me how i can write to you ?

  • @shavenhead88

What is a nazi skinhead doing in China? Lol

  • Hey! Thanks for sharing this!

    :o)

We love having the good information out here on the net...

  • Ah, that's the entire issue Joanna Zorya (martialtaichi). You do NOT teach the internal, so you have to make up your own "system." It's impossible to teach something you don't understand. I've made it plain for everybody to see how motivated you are by your own overblown and inflated ego - totally inapproriate for someone of your meager experience in TCC. I will keep on responding to your inane posts as long as your own bellicose and belligerent ego compels you forward.

  • Practionner of taiji for some years now... yang and chen. But this seems a complete joke. These are videos that makes peoples laugh at taiji practionners. The way he jumps back.

It may be real, but i have some doubts.

  • from a aiki perspective he is using secondary pressure. the hand holds form but do not push. the sudden push comes from his hara which produces a whiplike physics.the push is a reverse jerk whichi is only a couple of forceful inches relax the top but hold shape jerk push with the hip .

  • I'm sorry to say this, but this is fake - Kelly lifts his feet up simultaneously and drops on purpose. Biomechanics is all you've got: the Classics say that "power is rooted in the feet, issued through the legs, directed by the body and manifest in the hands". As for relaxation - it is just down to efficient muscle use - no excess tension in the firing / agonist muscles and no tension in the antagonist muscles. It is just refined physical skill.

  • @martialtaichi

Why dont you just keep your undigested book knowledge for yourself?!

He even told by himself that its a simple technique , who can be learned by everybody. I guess you didnt even listen to what he say. But making such redundant comments ... tz

  • @ "Why dont you just keep your undigested book knowledge for yourself?!"

Because I'm speaking the truth as a fully initiated instructor with plenty of experience. Most instructors just perpetuate the mythology because it "puts rice on the table". If you ever get to be an instructor yourself you'll know the moral dilemma facing you.

  • @martialtaichi

Phillips dont talk mythological at all. More over I dont know what you talking about. You just reproach what you do yourself.

And talk about your self as "initiated".

    ridiculous !

  • Unfortunately what I am saying is factually correct - it is not subject to what anyone wants to be true. I know from my experiences of being amongst fellow instructors the tricks and rationales they use and the manipulative mind games they employ. There will always be people who want to believe in secret knowledge - and that is precisely the condition they exploit - many of them knowingly.

  • @martialtaichi

Fortunately you are not the only one with experiences!

  • Very true, but not all empirical data is of equal value. Some is more objective than others. I have no agenda to believe the hype - nothing invested either in belief or disbelief.

  • Put it this way, take a cynic along to one of this guy's lessons and I can guarantee his push hands skills will not work. They will not work on someone resistant or unwilling. At that point the excuses start - the other person has a lot of innate qi or a major lack of it... the techniques only work on people who are sensitive to qi, it would be irresponsible to show the techniques on someone who was not properly conditioned or who was resisting because they'd get too badly hurt etc. etc.

  • @martialtaichi

You are so blinkered its unbelievable. Phillips himself say in this vid that it has nothing to do with special qi. I give a shit of your "guarantee".You arent even able to listen or to watch properly so how could you have learned something?!

  • I don't need to learn anything thanks :)

I am blinkered though - you are quite right there. Seen it all before... bored of it now... but believe whatever you want to believe - you will anyway. Take care :)

  • Comment removed

  • Plenty of cynics have met this man to find what he does is quite real. You are a very smug and rigid person, Joanna. You have a long way to go.

  • Your experiences hardly qualify as empirical. You expect others to accept your views without question... Yet that is what you accusing this man of. Interesting. If this is just a trick, why don't you replicate and explain the mechanics of it for your next video?

  • Comment removed

  • Joanna- your particualar experiences, clearly limited, hardy qualify as empirical. Yet you insist everyone accept your words at face value. Interesting. As someone else suggested, why don't you reproduce what is demonstrated and break it down if you feel it will "expose" something?

Now, I am sure, YOUR excuses will start...

  • P.S. Any reticence on your part will be taken as agreement to what I say.

  • Fully initiated? Have you looked at how you move? Stiff hips, closed back, no kua... All of which amounts to no core flexibilty which is the pivot (literally) of these arts.

  • @setset2

you're right - I have no left kua due to severe osteoarthritis. but if the arts are unsuitable for disabled people, they're not much use are they?

  • @martialtaichi - Martial Tai Chi - aka. Joanna, is just another self professed "know nothing" who thinks she knows what Tai Chi Chuan is. She hasn't a clue what fajin is and how to use energy, nor is she qualified to pass judgement on someone like Mr Philips who has over 30 years practical experience. Joanna go home and keep practicing your 1-2-3 "karate applications" - LOL - you poor thing, you haven't a clue what Tai Chi Chuan is!

  • @yieldingxxx

I'm glad I don't do what other so-called "Tai Chi" people do because my stuff is useful for fighting with, whereas most of the mainstream stuff only works against stooges who are "sensitive" enough to "feel da nrg".

  • @martialtaichi - LOL Joanna - a.k.a "martialtaichi" we're all waiting for you to display a video of your awesome fighting techniques. Until then, you're just another external Karate teacher and not a good one at that!

  • @yieldingxxx

internal... external... karate... tai chi... just superficial labels... who cares?

  • Comment removed

  • @martialtaichi - LOL - you call what YOU do instructor level? HA! You are a beginner who hasn't the faintest clue what TCC is all about. I've seen you're video's and they are 100% external rubbish - no Tai Chi at all. Please stop spouting your ignorance on the Internet - It's obvious that what you "teach" is not TCC at all. Go away and take your ignorami with you.

  • @taichiheaven

People are free to Google me to see how my work is regarded by the experts. It is only the little lackeys who jeer.

  • @martialtaichi That you are allowed to teach others your martial drivel is beyond me. I have searched out your "style" as i saw it on youtube and was horrified by what i saw you talking about. Your ignorance is beyond me. In 14 years, you should have learned more than what you have. No connection, no movement of the torso, nothing. That you are here deriding other garbage is beyond me. NOTHING of what you have on youtube is worthy of a serious martial artist. Just keeping it real :P

  • @gordhill

... it's getting hard to be someone but it all works out

it doesn't matter much to me...

  • @martialtaichi YOu dont have to be someone! That's your biggest problem! You have nothing REAL to show people, yet you claim something you dont have and that is junk! AND you have the nerve to critisize soemone else' work on top of it all!

That much said, i do think this guy is a fraud as well. Just not as big as you and your "style".

  • @gordhill

I'm glad we are in agreement :D

  • @martialtaichi Lol, so who are these "so - called -experts?" Have they been doing Tai Chi for several decades? I don't see names like Chen Xiaowang, Ma hong, Wang Xian, Chen Zhenglei, and Chen Qingzhou on your website. All I see on your website is "Qi sucks, Qi doesn't work, Asians are taking advantage of white people." And as for your channel, if you're gonna practice something like that, you're better off with TKD or karate, don't need to bother with Tai Chi

  • @whsskdhkf

OK - thanks for the advice.

  • @whsskdhkf Your half way correct ..these so-called expert are left over from the 70's spouting nothing but BS. This guy even when he was young couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag (except maybe against hippies trying to hug him...

  • @Blueslicks321 true

  • I really can't shake the feeling that Kelly is jumping in this video.

  • No problem - why don't you try reproducing Kelley's behavior yourself? Ie., jump backwards as far as you can without crouching down first - you could even post a video yourself if you think your performance warrants it, and we can all judge for ourselves.

  • This is good. Michael Phillips knows what he is talking about and presents in a clear, easy to understand manner.

  • I've had about 12 sessions with Mr. Phillips, as he was the teacher of my instructor, and I can guarantee he is the real deal... Very glad I found this video, nice refresher on the basics.

  • Nice video - well presented. If at 8.00 when you demonstrating fa jin, what would happen if Kelley relaxed his pushing arms? I suspect he wouldn't jump up in the air like he does. However, I think the point you are making at the time ("lightning - too quick to cover the eyes") is that it's done opportunistically? i.e. you need the hard force coming onto your body for it to work...

So.... what if somebody punches you in the face/body, rather than pushes slowly on your body? Thanks.

  • please read the 'more' description for links to further discussion and frame by frame breakdown of the fajin demo.

  • Great teacher here!!!

  • The waist is the lowest level possible of understanding. The waist is external and not internal.

  • i really like the demonstration of fajin. you can really see, or at least it seemed this way to me, how the waist is used to generate the power
