  • all politicians are brain dead

  • 800 trillion....uh huh.

  • Hey Dave, I don't hav a "Palin Problem" the shitty media does and so do you.

Stick you next blog up your ass Dave.

    bt

  • this is were republicans can do some good the tax plan is great i think but we liberals have better healthcare

  • If I were a Republican lawmaker, David Frum couldn't pay to advise me. while Bush was in office he and Bill Kristol and the American Interprise Institute neocon nutjobs proposed every idiotic spending plan know to mankind. I don't know whyt anybody would pay for this guys advice on how to effectively take a shit. Moron.

  • Republicans are a bunch of ignorant malcontents, who can be worked into a frenzy about anything. They simply can't live with the reality that they lost the election so badly. Their desperation has lead them to look increasingly insane. Their divorce from reality and retreat into the political netherland of subjective hate and fear, runs counter to the direction of the conciousness of our country. These Palinesque optics will lead them to a major defeat in 2010 and 2012. Life is beautiful.

  • They lost the election badly..it didn't look that bad? I think you are discounting the possibility that the huge amount of risk taken by Obama will not work out and cost the tax payer a huge amount for very little gain..I am not going to say that the rest of the world told you so when we abandoned the economic policies your president is pushing..but I will say you should have been paying attention.

  • lol...the new GOP still brings no new ideas to the table...tisk tisk

  • I love how David Shuster stutters out: "$800 trillion...ah...$800 billion...ah...stimulus package passed." A Freudian slip, but you're on to it, David. Plus, reading those teleprompters can be a bitch. Even Barry knows how to use one.

  • i love how the worst things republicans can say about obama is that he read from a teleprompter.

  • i say if we the people of United State we have to raise taxes but 40 percent for 5 years and u all peeps that download on torrent buy the cd ur ruining ur economy and tax return well i say this the state dont need to pay u a penny yea i dont it is hard but i vow it will work but i know all u American are to cheap to do this soo fuck u peeps for me am moving out the usa oh yea the American Dream yea it long dead !!!!! peace out and have a so call " American Dream" yea it happen globaly sure but

  • Take it a step further. The GOP and Dems are both brain dead. Ron Paul is an exception.

  • Fuckin' jerkwad skirts the hard and true questions, typical repub asshole!

Right, like a payroll tax holiday will help those of us out of a job!! MORON!

  • Notice how he ignored the lies that rep. have told about Acorn, and Doctors

  • Frum is a proven idiot. He's the same guy who assured us that the war in Iraq was a great idea and would be "a cakewalk." He is completely and utterly discredited, and should shut his stupid mouth. BTW, that's a really bad rug on your head, Frum.

  • actually, it's not a rug, i saw him from the side on bill maher's show, and he's got a huge bald spot on the crown of his head. as a total aside, david frum's mother was a hugely loved broadcaster in canada for decades. i disagree with a lot of what he says, but he is one of the conservatives who can put a sentance together and at least defend his idea. he's not a bad guy, just a guy with bad ideas.

  • brain dead is voting for somthing you haven't read

  • no. brain dead is terry schiavo.

  • 1/3 of the stimulus is tax-cuts asked for by the G.O.P. themselves. Obama conceded that much, 1/3 and then they railroad him by voting against their own tax-cuts. They need to re-evaluate why they got into politics. To help their neighbors, friends, and family. Instead they are stubborn and selfish. 2010 they might get the hint when they again are reduced in signifigance again.

  • That's an insult to individuals with brain death.

  • David Frum--freezing payroll taxes does NOT save jobs

Building ANYTHING creates JOBS-------for YEARS (like you said)!

SAME ol crappy ideas..surround everry ideas with TAXES! UGGGHH

  • im sick of politics. its over

  • And that is what the neocons want us to be. Disgusted with the system and non-voting..

  • David is a fucking speech writer, he wont even know the diff b/w his dick and finger

  • Frum must'ce had some brain cells in his musli the morning he wrote this. Good for him.

  • LOL

  • But David, how will your plan effect the people who have lost their jobs? That's the problem with the Republicans. They're talking about "the Now"; Obama is talking about "the Future"! We need to first get people back to work in order for them to be able to benefit from Payroll taxcuts that you republicans talk about all the time. It's simple even my little nephew understands Obama's plan.

  • No he's not. The future is monstrous inflation, he never considers the future. First we need to stop spending so ridiculously domestically and overseas before we consider tax cuts. Tax cuts and spending, never make much sense together. And I'd suggest you let your nephew get a wiff of Ron Paul or the Federal Reserve's balance sheet. We'll have a convert yet. :D

  • How is "creating alternative energy" not aiming towards the future? And if you pay attention, Obama's not trying to spend money overseas when it comes to the economy. He's spending on Infrastructure.

  • How is inflation not destroying future wealth? We're half-assing our way out of Iraq and putting a buttcheek into Afghanistan. Overseas spending is hardly reducing. And he (they) have spent, are spending, and will spend on a lot more than simply infrastructure.

  • You're right.

It's like a doctor treating an ill patient.

Do you treat the disease(the future) or the symptoms(the now).

Treating the symptoms will not get rid of the disease but if you don't the patient might die before you can treat the disease.

Sometimes treating the symptoms gives you time so the body can fix itself.

The question is can the economy, given enough time, cure itself.

    .

  • .... Wow!! I never thought of it that way...O_O!

    Excellent Analogy!!

  • The payroll tax freeze, in my opinion, seems to be a decent idea. Having workers keep, up to, an extra $100, every week, would've actually helped a lot of people.

That could've been part of the solution. Granted, that idea doesn't do much to help the increasing number of people who are being laid off everyday, it's still a good idea. It's unfortunate that Republican leadership couldn't try and bring that into the discussion

  • The freeze on the payroll tax does very little, to alleviate the pressures on the states, facing huge budget deficits, and, from the little I know, it does less for those losing their jobs.

Still, imagine if they had actually sat down with the Democrats, and shared their ideas. It would've led to a very heated debate, but hopefully an even better bill.

  • Bill (my imagination): -Payroll tax freeze (+$100 each week, per worker) -Aid to States government (for health/education) -Extension of Unemployment benefits -Retrofit all State Buildings -Infrastructure Construction -Tax protections for small business -Alternative Minimum Tax -Housing tax credit -Education tax credit - Energy Efficient State Vehicles -R/D Credit for energy production Now, I'm not sure what the price tag would look like, but it'd be a better bill for all people
  • Wow. Why don't they come up with a better solution, rather then whining about it? The $30 Million mouse is chump change compared to the defict that the GOP has racked up in the past 6 years. Especially when including the 1.5 TRILLION dollar "war on terror". I wonder how many earmarks are in that?

  • Why do hosts let their guests declare points of view as facts? "Our plan is better", Why didn't Shuster ask how well tax cuts have been working over the past 8 years, or ask for someone with an economic background to explain it (like Krugman), or how Michael Steele is complaining about no long term benefits?

  • Wow. Surprising to hear that from Frum.

  • If there's a marsh mouse fund hidden in that bill, you can be certain those millions of tax dollars won't be funding much research or habitat rescue for mice, but will be lining whichever rat's pocket its sponsor pulls campaign funds from .

Does anyone else think it's funny that the GOP drew a connection between Pelosi & the marsh mouse charade when Pelosi looks an awful lot like a rodent, herself?

Pork attached to a legitimate bill is only there to grease the campaign wheels of the sponsor.

  • We don't need a quick fix.

Only an ignorant person would back an approach that would get results now but wouldn't help us in the long term.

We have to become more competitive with the rest of the world and that will take time.

We should have done this a long time ago but that's not Obamas' fault.

He should be praised for understanding that unemployment is a symptom of our problem not the cause of it.

  • I don't agree with David Frum in some things but he is right that the Republicans should be pushing better ideas rather than just saying NO to everything. With ideas they could split the electorate, claim credit when successful, lay blame when rejected and failure follows and look busy and competent. They just look idiotic by acting like this.

  • @xhagast - True! But worse yet they are so willing to HARM The country just so they can "screw" one man, Obama, and get a republican elected in 2012.

We are just "collateral damage" in their war against the hated Obama.

  • GOP may have serious problems but David "crazy neocon" Frum sure as hell isn't the solution to any of them.

  • Know nothings. Irrelevant. Silly. Brain Dead. Obstructionist. Mossbacks.

These are just a few words that come to mind when thinking of some of the fucking dinosaurs that still linger in our gov.

  • If you have no job....exactly what payroll taxes are you talking about

  • Some people that lose their jobs, do it sometime thru out the year or recently. So they still file taxes come tax time..and they get a tax cut. For those that are unemployed..they get an unemployment extension. Those on soc sec get a increase of funds....
