It's easy just don't buy gold. It's jumped to a record high. So who making the profit? The entity* selling it to you. Then the market will crash and they will buy it back off you again. If its actually real that is. There is only so much gold and it isn't going anywhere. Unless you believe it aliens using it for the anti gravity propulsion system. Where else is it going? Its only as scarce as it always has been and we just keep adding to that by digging it up!

How will this detect a fake professionally made tungsten gold dipped bar? It will show no defects, cause there are no blog inserts or drill marks. Only way is to drill.

@novicemilk Sound travels much faster in tungsten than in gold, because it is harder. The tungsten bar would appear to be much thinner than it is on ultrasound due to this discrepancy. If there were a thick outer coating (e.g. of gold,), sound would also bounce off the gold/tungsten boundary, creating a visible echo layer. Busted!

Ok...this is nice to sell a high-tech process to mints...but all you really need at home is a good precise scale and a measured tank of water...it's called a density test. Displace the water for bar-volume, then weigh the bar...easy. Gold is 5.9309 times heavier than an equal volume of water...so displace the water, measure the weight of it, multiply, and you should know whether there is aluminum or lead inside your gold...

Surely the only way to be sure is to melt the bar down, print the seal of the storage facility then store it. That way the storage facility has supreme credibility... unlike Fort Cocks.

The reason we have money backed on confidence is more than trying to stabilize the dollar's worth. If anything, some economists, especially those in the Fed, say that the Dollar is too strong and should be lowered.

Plus, gold is a commodity. Its price fluctuates and can rise or drop like crazy at any time.

since ultrasonic only tell density difference, latest fake gold involves amalgamation of various metals to equal to gold's density.

I have a gold coin which is from a unknown china refiner, that weigh 1 troy oz, i heated and glowed like pure gold under a torch, did not tarnish under after cooling either.
