I.m not so sure you have to bew an austrian but the likes of Ingrid haebler, Gulda, Brendel who were all born viennese make a good case. what you always get is solid , artistic performasnces and kartl Böhm is certainly no excpetion
@lehar Mozart single-handedly destroys the myth of progress and the chronological snobbery it breeds. Speaking of which, alas, it's very rare today to find someone who hasn't bought into this wretched myth and its blasted chronological snobbery.

I am deeply moved. This symphony is perhaps my most favorite symphonies out there. This symphony, in Charles Hazlewood's words(and I agree) shows us that you can't have joy without suffering, terror without consolation. As a child, I liked Mozart. As a teenager, I loved Mozart. As a adult, well, there are no words to describe my love for his music.
Sorry, but this piece has not been played better. I'm sure nothing is beyond criticism, but seriously, how can you improve on this? I want to hear it!!!
I'm deeply moved. Perhaps this is my favorite symphony, despite many others by Mozart, Schubert's 4th, 8th, and 9th, Beethoven's Ninth, Chaykovsky's 5th and 6th, and Skryabin's First Perhaps I should add Mahler's Ninth, Beethoven's Sixth, Bruckner's Ninth, who knows. But just pay attention at 1:50 and thereafter, and to 3:20 and thereafter. It takes my breath away.
I love the authentic instruments movement and normally I would find this sort of performance to be totally anachronistic. But Bohm' Mozart interpretations are always so beautiful I never really care.
Es cierto; pero también es verdad que así fue siempre joven Su música suena siempre joven. Suponemos que habría seguido siendo así aunque hubiera alcanzado los 90
I like the tempo that the orchestra took with this movement. And something about the white background with the only colors being the green stage and the orchestra makes it seem very dreamy to me.
The damn trumpets need to take it easy in the opening...it's not fortissimo...its forte!Youre not playing wagner:as much as you might wanna be fellas...!
Not quite the splendour or the sumptuous sound of the Musikvereinsaal! The VSO look like Vienna poor relations as this appears to have been recorded in a corner of a shopping mall. Anyway, many thanks shostakk for you wonderful Mozart/Böhm videos
Boehm as the Mozartian par excellence. The contrasts of tension and relaxation in the lst. movement are extreme even for Mozart and B. exploits them to the fullest.
What a sparkling performance of the 39th symphony! Karl Bohm's interpretations of Mozart are among the best in the world. I wish I could find this on CD.
It's hard to find another 39th as good as Bohm's who was a natural Mozartian. Perhaps' Vegh, or Menuhin? But i will settle for this. sd goh (malaysia)

Well, it needs an Austrian conductor to understand the music of an Austrian composer. Bohm was a true Mozartian.

Maestro Karl Bohm, THE most underrated great conductor of them all; this is sublime music making, The man was one of the very few who "got" Mozart!

The timpanist may have the timps backwards, seeing as that is how the German school organize it.
