You should put out a CD of the best of scot joplin you certainly have the talent Not necessarily right now but in a few years once you have a bit more of a following.
Choco, I just got done listening to faster versions...they sound nice, but I think this tempo is more appropriate for the melody of this piece OR... your playing combined with tempo is great...either way, great job. I'm working on this piece next - I just finished Maple Leaf. :-) PS-hope you make a comeback soon, buddy...
You are so great! My dad played Joplin when I was little. I took piano lessons from a young age and I still play. I just love playing those Joplin tunes my dad played and still plays! He was a ragtime fan, and so am I. How can you not be?! You are a wonderful player.
your playing is excellent. The only thing I would suggest is that when you repeat a section try to make it a little more distinct from the first time you play it. I struggle with this myself. Keep up the good work!
For my taste, no one beats Joshua Rifkin. However, in some cases, IMHO, he stumbles - "The Entertainer" comes to mind.
Nonetheless, although you're not as polished, I prefer some of your versions, like this one and your "Pineapple Rag". You have a nice immediacy, an emotionalism that draws me in. Here's a weird request, and probably not too hard for you (if you can find the music): Joplin's "Augustine Club Waltzes". A little known early Joplin gem. All the best to you!
Awesome video as always. By the way, do you have some sort of movie editing software that will allow you to put your vids in grainy black and white? I think it would look very authentic and give your videos an early 1900's look. Just a suggestion =)
Yea, this is a lot better then your first recording. It still sounds a teeny bit off from 2:35 onwards for some reason, I think it could be the dynamics or also a little too much or too little pedal.
Your skill completely exceeds your instrument. Can we take up a collection to get you a taller piano? The harmonics created by the longer bass strings would be worth it. In this economy you could get a good 100 year old piano for under $1000.
I dunno - yes, it would sound better, but I like the "authentic" sound of a smaller piano. A hundred years ago, I can imagine most of the small-town music halls didn't have large pianos so this level of sound is something you'd hear on a regular basis. Just a thought.
Ahahahaha this is making me mad cause I'm
learning magnetic rag, and I decided to learn it cause it was really catchy and fun, and along comes the chrysanthemum ;)

I just downloaded and printed off the score for this, it is actually a nice and easy piece with mostly single notes for once :)
I can play Maple leaf rag, first 3 parts of Magnetic Rag, and first 2 parts of Pineapple Rag so far, but I also wanted to start learning this one.
I tried a test recording on my LG phone, the video quality is good, but the sound was rubbish :(
