@haykodjan I may be nuts but I swear it's all legit... no passengers or auxiliary crew, less than 1% fuel. It was right on the edge of stall but can be done in FSX - give it a go on a larger runway.
@AirbusA380rox : I can't comment on FS9 or individual computers but I can say that FSX performance is down to memory & processor power- and more cores = more performance. The i9723 should handle FSX easily.
I know where you're coming from with the Star Wars music - The soft start building up is similar to the Imperial March.
@fefethepilot Hi. The water effect are by REX [Real Environment Xtreme] I HIGHLY recommend it. I thought the clouds in FSX were fine until I saw the difference that REX makes. It improves the sky [including sun & clouds), water and runway textures with no noticeable hit on performance.
@HarleySoftail91 : Thanks :) Keep practicing, You'll get there. I remember when I struggled to hit the runway at Heathrow.
If you haven't done so already look at some of the ILS tutorial vids on here - a lot of airports don't have ILS but practicing with ILS will give you a good idea of how to approach visually or with GPS assistance.
what pisses me off lol, is that something is wrong with my scenary, i downloaded a popular scenary file that even has the road going up the island, but the runway is actually inside the mountain with only a tiny bit showing, any ideas?
@aviator147 : I'm no expert on that but it might be something to do with the order of your scenery library... that's just a guess though - hope you sort it. Check the documentation for your scenery too, it might have troubleshooting tips.
Yep.. No passengers, no baggage, Just the pilot & co-pilot & the bare minimum fuel. It says 0% but obviously it was 0 point something because I still had reverse thrust. I tried stronger headwinds but flying on the edge of stall speed, the increased windspeed fluctuations meant that it stalled every time.
sorry no i didnt. but i see you want to beat a challenge i respect you for that but mate...fs9 is more realistic than fsx, fs9 is more of a simulator! fsx worked most hard on graphics and 40% is all glitches and errors...seriously dud think about it, peace out
consider playing it...i aint bein horrible to your vid or ote but i play fs2004 and i have just tried landing the 747 on there and i have fly tampa scenery...didnt even get to 60KIAS with revers thrust i overshot and fell into water and i touched down at 130KIAS...=D...check my vids please rate comment n prob subscribe
I disagree, though fsx is a big improvement over fs9 when it comes to graphics it has also improvements to the realism, and most (note im saying most) glitches have been fixed in fsx sp2. But you're right about the realism on the default planes, its crap. The pmdg and some other payware addons like Lvl-d etc are quite an improvement however. just my two cents :)
an airplane can stop surprisingly quickly when its empty. an empty 747 can take off on a 2000 foot runway, and land on about 2200 feet, with MAX autobrakes and all that jazz. but not 400 meters... lol.
Thanks. Yep, I flew as slow as I could do without falling out of the sky. You can see the airspeed in red at the top of the scren but you may need to watch in fullscreen HD to read it.
Thanks bud. I'm going to see if I can manage it in the PMDG 747 first, failing that I might post the clip I already have landing better, but in better weather.
Thanks :) believe it or not the take off IS possible in FSX! I wish I'd thought to put it on the end of this video, but at the time I just assumed that it couldn't be done.
Too many settings to mention in FSX to mention and the best combination varies from system to system.
The best way to find it is to create a test flight with no wind using autopilot to maintain a constant speed/alt/heading & save it.
Depending on your spec start with low/med settings and monitor your frame rates whilst flying the saved flight. Up your settings 1 at a time and make note the effect on rates.
IMO, the biggest killers are light bloom, high cloud draw radius, and shadows on self.
You can see & hear the reverse thrusters in the clip, if I killed the engines I couldn't have done that.
I shed all passengers, started at TNCM with [I think it was] 3% fuel. Landed with full flaps, autospoilers armed, and reverse thrust from touchdown to stop, a little bit of luck... and brakes of course ;)
I had slight headwind <10kts. Any more made it even harder because naturally the airspeed fluctuates with the wind, and as you can see from the clip, I was touching stall speed already.
Thanks bud. My PC isn't that awesome [I've added the spec. to the video info], Scenery packed cities or busy airports bring it to it's knees - I get about 8fps at Heathrow with full traffic using Traffic X, even with light bloom & lens flare turned off.
I didn't do a 'before & after' test, but I don't think REX harmed my frame rates at all, indeed, they may even have improved.
Everything is possible in FSX...Just like in russia.

matthewnuf 2 years ago
That must have been a good feeling when you finally nailed it! Well done, and it looks insane with such a big plane on such a short runway.
engaerik 2 years ago 14
i flew to the same airport with a boeing 747-400 and its possible
you just have to do a very slowly approach and you have to use all your flaps and when you landed you need shear reversal
Kai8593 2 years ago
there must be any cheat cuz that is impossible!
pocher2nd 2 years ago
It's not impossible, but it requires serious perseverance. Under those weather conditions I'm lucky if I succeed on 5% of landings.
pjvenner 2 years ago
If your plane accelerated that fast reverse when stopped you must have been on 0 fuel and 0 fuel load....
I've landed in a 747-400 there 0 knot winds and realism to full on settings why don't you try.

if i put 300mph wind i will land with 3 knots:p

The 300+ is the direction of the wind in degrees from magnetic north - the next figure is the windspeed in knots.
