@spazzmuffinz36 I would honestly love to see Lady Gaga or Rhianna or Miley Cyrus.....or any popular singer today sing like Kate Bush.....They'd get booed off the stage.
@ShamanSquirrel maybe you should try comparing Kate Bush to more realistic contemporary equivalents and the difference wouldn't be so dramatic. kate bush was never a top 40 prostitute like those of modern day you referenced. you want someone from today to sing like Kate? try Bat for Lashes, Bjork or maybe Joanna Newsom. I mean Feist and Zola Jesus both just released albums. get your head out of your ass and fuck outta here with your strawman arguments.
i don't really understand why people call this "talent". yes, she has a nice voice, but... i don't know. it just doesn't do anything for me. it actually annoys me. the lyrics, i can understand why they're so touching.. but anyone can sing like her.
@spazzmuffinz36 I guess you don't know all the work Kate Bush has done, otherwise you would not say this. This is not her best work, I admit, but she has made such beautiful songs with interesting and meaningful lyrics. Please check out "Breathing", "The Sensual world", "The Dreaming", "Running up that hill", "Sat in your lap ", "Wow", "The man with the child in his eyes", well I could go on and on....
@spazzmuffinz36 No not anybody can sing like her.. She has great variation in her voice and wrote The Man With A Child In His Eyes when she was a young teenager. Her first album The Kick Inside was realised when she was 19, full of sophisticated songs that she wrote, that are timeless, beautiful, funny, deep and utterly orignal. That is why she is called talented and genius songwriter....She also was at the forefront of great choreography, changed the music scene completely.
She has put across verything i'd like to say to people that have joined the forces. " the army is not there to help the soldiers but to put their lives at sake as to take those of other they no nothing about" I don't think anyone has the right to say, "go risk your life for our cause!" Peace.

I wasn't expecting such an aggressive response from anyone but I'm guessing that you haven't actually listened to that much Fiest. She is an excellent artist. But so is Kate Bush. They are both Excellent. The only reason I made the previous comment was because I never thought I'd come across another female artist that would get anywhere near the pure creative power of Kates mind but I have to admit I was pleasantly suprised when I checked out Fiest's archive. As is Kate, she is awsome. Its close
I don't see why you are comparing the two ... To me they really don't have much in common. I mean, Kate Bush is this like sound pioneer and Feist is just a singer of nowadays radio landscape, which is of course great and all. :D
@mmasny Yea you might say that but she does have a very faithful following. I think she is very well known in Canada, USA, and France. I'm sure Kate would love her work. Dont get me wrong tho. I absolutely love Kate's work. Its trully exceptional. Its nice to discver new talent tho. Woudn't you agree?
you don't need to worry about me getting you wrong. i like bush but o stopped having religions some time ago so you're probably unable to hurt my feelings :) I've just taken a look at her and I like her voice.

@MolokoPlus1980 okay you have a valid point on kate bush, but you've some nerve naming female singers nowadays as ''fame hungry, talentless slappers'', it's a pathetic generalisation.
How does she do that with her eyes, I sat next to her a bus and she moved her eyes like that!! lopl shes amazing and so is this song!!!! lopl lopl lopl lopl
This song breaks my heart every time i hear it although i love listening to it. The first time i heard this my brother had been sent to iraq when he was only 19 years old and i think i sobbed my heart out for a good hour sad i know lol
No it's not sad mate. This song is very poignant and always will be, especially if you've got a family member serving in the war, or has been killed in the war.
Actually dolphins have been FILMED fighting wars. Generally they're males fighting other males who are trying to take the females of their tribe for breeding purposes. They can get quite violent and last for a couple of days. But, nothing like the human war that can last for years.
killing a fellow human being is evil. no matter what you call it. war. the judicial system. self defense. it's never justified. anyone who thinks otherwise needs to think about it harder. all we have is life. thats the only thing that matters. what gives us the right to take that away from someone? we are not god. only human. we are all equal. some of us have just lost our souls.
Well to be honest death is just a big part of us as life. If we never die, our life would have no purpose. We would just be wandering around forever. That wouldn't be a real life either, would it? But I don't support wars. I think they are about just as stupid as some of the mankind is. Many army- and navy soldiers do fight to protect their country, but yet the only thing they come against is death.
The lyrics are very poetic and makes you proud and sad at the same time. It laments the waste but somehow makes you proud of the sacrifice. This song causes one to reflect upon the nature of war and should be hear by all politicians before they contemplate such action in the future.
balderdashandpiffle- not 'all' politicians are warmongers. There are politicians who risk their careers and reputations to speak out against immoral wars.
CLEARLY I wasn't talking about ALL politicians; sure some are corrupt and make immoral decisions. But generalising any body of people is in my book the epitomy of ignorance. Here is just one example of a politician who clearly had morals; William Wilberforce who dedicated his life to abolishing the slave trade; there are many other examples but for word limitation reasons i'll not go through them. I find your cynicism to be simply misplaced and nauseating.
The song reflects upon the glory with which service is surrounded in our society and the loss that is born by the young and thier families who serve. Those you dream of service are not being ridiculled or pittied for their choice but are being lamented for the lack of life chances available to them.
This song is very poigniant and to me speaks of the tragic waste that conflict can wreck upon individual lives. It speaks of the hoplessnes that was prevalent in British society at the time when many saw the army as an opportunity to escape from economic deprevation.
Remember at the time of this song the United Kingdom was engaged in an anti -terrorism campaign in Northern Ireland. This campaign lasted for 30 years, and was swiftly brought to a conclussion after 7/11 when the Americasns relised what terrorism was and stopped supporting such groups operating in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Maybe we should send the politicians who start most of these pointless wars to the front, and let them get a taste of what they inflict on our armed forces.
Most people on this planet are normal, decent beings but as soon as some crazy despot with an ego gets into power it's the normal people who end up doing the dirty work.
Think it was Lennon who said "What if they started a war,and nobody bothered turning up".
you are ether extremely jingoistic (patriotic) very young with ideas of "death or glory " crap. In other words sadly very naive A"Texan" or a person who believes in the ideologies of a war monger. or simply none of the above (a wind up artist) Try reading the poetry of Wilfred Owen from the first ww. He too had similar sentiments to yourself. War is simply a politicians tool of last resort using people to accomplish their own political ends. Take it from one who knows
Damn, your a bit thick i guess, you dont know what she was on about with the song huh, those who dont have the abilities of money, that are pretty poor dream of the army pay, which is alot to some of us like me, we join up to serve as well as pay, this is the basic thing she is on about
We brits all join up, you seem to not know that it costs us god knows how much(from £15k=$30k to £20k=$40k) to go to uni, which means that alot of people need help for this, alot of us also have no access to any good jobs, as most are either min pay, or just want people who have already gone to a uni.
lets hope that you dont end up regretting your words "wanting something bad enough" (obtaining an education) does not make much sense to your family should you be brought home under your flag, in a body bag!! Life is sweet
I personally thought it was "it's sad for a mother to see her son come back in a body bag, all his potential unfulfilled". Can't see how anyone could disagree with that.
But war is a necessity, it boosts progress and adaption. Although truely an evil, its also a good thing. there will always be war, when war stops humanity would have stopped.(we will always find something to fight over)
But, without war, we would stagnate, all great inventions were made to gain the upper hand of other nations, good people exist, but so do the bad, i would gladly fight and die like my ancestors against tyrants and cruelty.
Yes, but there's would be the risk to become a sort of Superman of the world, pretending to be the referee of the whole world (as W. Bush seems to show lately). Like "we are the strongest and the best, so we are over all and you cannot live on yer own, you need our perfect way and our own rules". War then become necessary to realize all this.
Thomas Hobbes (Brit thinker i guess) said once that a good soverain should work for the peace and avoid in all the possibles ways the war-estate. Today i see the perfect opposite.
There are nations out there who improve upon themselves without needing to rely on war. War has never been a necessity. Mankind is one of the few creatures on the face of this planet who fight for no real reason. You don't see dolphins dead through their wars, and yet they are going fine.
Some dolphins attack sharks, any sharps on sight and kill them, would this not be a type of war?
Humans are the only species that would and has dont the most horrid things to its own, we will always have somebody leading a group that must be stopped, 10000 years of history doesnt lie.
Most wars end up being fought over religion, or someone offending someone else... or for greed. Name one other animal that fights for religion, insult or greed. Dolphins attack sharks, because dolphins are prey for sharks.
My personal favourite 'Kate' song. The first one I ever heard, the one that made me love her and the one that speaks to me the most. It's just so powerful and heartbreaking. Love this video.
She's only writing that sometimes young men & woman join the Army without thinking of the real possibility of dying in a conflict that may not have been worth the sacrifice. And the pain that causes their mothers particularly...
Holy shit, I just found this video last night through random conversation. My eardrums are in love with kate bush. <3
