The director directed it perfectly it was fast where it needed to be and slow and peaceful where it needed its so yah to the people saying its was too fast stop trying to sound cool like you have an idea how its supposed to sound and also its a high school choir so lay the heck off
and @ the people who said it was too fast, it wasnt... if you really look at the sheet music they did an excelent job... it also says to move the piece... :D
mmm! this song is so incredibly beautiful!! Our choir did it a few years ago, the part at 1:40 that lead up to the climax gives me goosebumps all over!! when it's done well, this was a great performance
I am glad that I found this posting. I went to this High School from 1968 to 1971 and sang in this Choir for 3 of those years. Those were memories that I treasure to this day as all of you who sang in this group will treasure to.
definitely too fast, but an overall good performance, work on the enunciation of the words a little. It sounded a little too American. Shouldn't have put an accelerando in towards the end of the "procul recedant..." the bass note needs to come out more at the end. Dynamic contrast was ok, but it would be better if there were more than two dynamic levels. Good work, you have a lot of good things going for you.
We r singing this song in our choir. It is beautiful but u guys r singing it to fast. Feel the music. Ur singing about a evil dream not a happy dream. But i like the sound.
beautiful at first... sopranos slightly flat on all the high G's. then at the chanting point thre were a handful of people not chanting, but having dihharea of the mouth. director looked very confidant though. overall it was a nice piece.
Definitely flat at the key change. Pure vowels need a bit of work. But you guys performed this wonderfully. It's not often a smaller size pulls this off.
I sang this piece at all state in KY. I love the way you guys did this piece. It is indeed a difficult piece. Sopranos were on target most of the time, enough so I could hear overtones beautifully.
wow, you guys were great. i remember when i was there watching and listening to you guys i couldnt stop smiling you guys were truly great in all your pieces and the sopranos sounded amazing they sounded like they were actually singing instead of screeching like things usually sound in other choirs you guys were amazing you gave me chills! *April ~ LHHS melodia/chamber choir
The sopranos have a strident sound, Latin vowels should be purer, and there are some pitch issues through the piece. There is some definite flatting with the key change at the end.
I don't know what your director thinks, but if I could make a suggestion, try to stay away from pronouncing a Latin 'e' as in 'pay' but rather as in 'bet'. I hear "tay lucis" rather than 'te lucis' Other than that, watch the pitch coming out of the bass' "corpora" it was not uniform throughout the choir. It mostly sounded good though. And it's J. Aaron Mcdermid, rather.
As a member of Mr. McDermid's choir in Jamestown, I know he prefers the more accurate 'bet' pronunciation, although I've sang in other choirs that were not so accurate with their Latin vowels.
Does it start in a minor or C major?

Agreeing with everyone. esp. Chris's "Dang mommy."
I must say, i love watching Carter's radical movement.
And it's quite fun to pick out our voices!
