There is a painting (?) on the wall in this video that looks like a boat hoist. I ask because I have a painting of same, as well as a pencil sketch by Wisconsin artists. Do you have a pic showing this painting - I am simply curious, nothing more. I also LOVE your bird. He is a stitch.
Alec is wonderful. :) What did you do to teach him to talk so much? Is there a method to your training or did he just pick it up from being around you a lot?
I just repeat phrases at different pitches and inflection, and kind of look at what he seems interested in. Alec is also a bird that WANTS to talk. He is absolutely in love with my wife, and tolerates my existince. From what I've read and experienced with other Greys, it's called a model / rival relationship. If he can imitate me (his competitor with my wife) She won't need me......It sounds funny but it works. We also handle our birds daily, and interact with them A LOT.
@tweezerjs Ahhhh so that is why he talks so much. :) Model\rival. My grey doesn't say any words and she is three years old but there isn't any rival in the house. I also live alone so I am guessing she doesn't hear enough human conversation. She imitates all the noises of the house though and she will whistle the theme song to Andy Griffith, "If I only had a brain" from the Wizar of Oz, and other tunes.
Hi, this is Alec's mom. I just picked up a book Barron' guide to a Well-Behaved Parrot. One idea I plan to start using is to tell Alec "stories" using his name. Although he has no problem talking this may engage him more.
John both teaches him AND he simply picks words phrases he hears and likes. He really likes to sing so John will have to actually teach him lines from songs. He use to sing "I love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around your neck" have not heard recently.
