The layout looks great! I personally like the Nickel Silver rail only because it doesn't oxidize. I'm working on getting a layout up and I widened the curves from 18 inch radius to 26 inch radius so I have a bigger layout to work with. Lastly, don't let someone tell you you're too old for Thomas trains. I operated the Thomas trains at the local train museum and I'm 22 LOL Anyways good work guys and happy railroading!
Don't ever listen to the negatives. They are the really jealous ones. I'm older and retired and said that I would continue my HO from when I left and joined the Navy many years ago. Unfortunately no rails have been laid as yet. I wish I had your guys ambition!
@jacfred Thank you. I appreciate your advice. Thats awesome. Never too late to get back into it. I find that once you buy a locomotive after quiete a while, you get hooked back into it. Thanks again -Matt
@bluecoatscheesypoofs thanks for yr reply, I was speaking from experience, I had build and mostly finished a 6x9 N gauge layout without adequate legs and support and after 8 or 10 months it started to sag in the middle, distorting the tracks and cracking the landscaping. Had to dismantle it and start from scratch, even 2x4s may warp with time.
@chloe7829 Thank you and I appreciate the advice. I didn't mean to come across as rude or annoyed, but you are the first one on this video to put in positive reccomendations for his layout. If you look on this comment page, you will notice that I am constantly recieving rude or "Know-it-all" remarks about his layout lol. But I can see that that wasn't your intention. Thanks again and happy modelling
MISTAKE # 1: before you start laying track, buildings etc, you must prevent the 4x8 plyWood from bending or wharping, nail it down on some 2x4 frame work
I do like the curved engine shed, i'll be interested to see what you come up with in the future with your layout. i feel the shed takes up a chunk of space especially on a 8 x 4 board
Gosh I wish bachmann had made than roundhouse and turntable when I was still in HO scale! (I'm now modeling in N scale) but anyway, great layout! If you want to add a crossover connecting both loops, then yes, insulators are the way to go. You may also want to invest in a more advanced power pack. MRC has some amazing ones out there, some even with two throttles for multiple loops like you've done here! Can't wait to see the finished layout!
@iwema93 Thank you. This is actually Dan's layout. Mine is DCC. Have a look on my channel if you wish to see it. Ya he is planning on adding a crossover soon. Thanks
@teddythelegoguy - Simple answer - they're joiners that are insulated.
Okay, you want more - instead of having track joiners (a.k.a. fishplates) made of metal to conduct electricity, insulated joiners are made of plastic or something similar so as to not conduct electricity. This allows you to separate sections of track so that you can connect different controllers to them, and run trains independently of each other. Of course, if you have DCC, that's not a problem...
@bluecoatscheesypoofs Nah man, I was just kidding around with ya. Actually I really like his videos and your's too. I am sorry if any offense was taken and this video was made a long time ago anyway. I am only 13 though, when I made this account I was too young so I had to use my dad's birthday.
@teddythelegoguy That's fine. I was just a little aggravated because two people had posted rather rude remarks just a few hours before you posted your's so I mistook you for a troll. The reaseon I was misled was because I thought you were 45 lol. For example, Hatemastergeneral is 28 years old and needs to get a life. Thanks for the explanation mate
@TheDarthEmperor For your information, I do have a regular BR based train layout. And excuse me but who are you to accuse someone of being too old for Thomas when the man who wrote the books was over 40 years old when he wrote them. also, if you are accusing someone of being pussies, then it's obvious that you are under 18 years old because grown men don't talk like that. And lastly, why are you watching this video if it's clear that both of our channels are Thomas-based?
@modeltrainteen95 Actually, this isn't my layout. It's danthe25man's layout. I am building a new layout and I will have that run on DCC eventually. Using either the Hornby Digital Control or the NCE powercab
@modeltrainteen95 Well I have got most of the benchwork completed and will be laying some track soon. I will start with a regular power sorce but will probably at least buy the DCC system in a month or two. It just depends on how fast the rest goes up
@acela2168 lol ya. I am17 years old which I admit is pretty old for Thomas but in my oppinion, Thomas is for any age. I am also a fan of British train companies, such as Hornby, Bachmann UK, ViTrains, Heljan and Peco
@TheThomasandedward Well technically I live in Littleton, but I am I only about 30 minutes away from Caboose Hobbies. I will say. Caboose Hobbies used to have a lot of HO Thomas stuff, but now that don't have as much in stock. Thats kind of why I am also modeling regular HO scale trains
Have you tried to take off the sheds and then you can put the turntable in any place and you can move the sheds anywhere on the truntable then or does the sheds have to stay on one part of the turntable?
@TheCraziestThomasFan Ya we tried doing that but the sheds have specific places where the outside walls go. (Track #11 and 15) . But thanks for wondering
@TheCraziestThomasFan OH! lol the reason is because the track supplying the power to the turntable needs to be connected to the 4th stop on the turntable. We are still working on ideas to switch it around.
@TheDeputation Thank you very much. Me and Dan will be giving you guys updates on the progress of his layout when he adds more sidings, track, scenery, buildings, ect
@TomyTrackmastertrain tup. I don't use it on mine but its not too bad. especially considering this isn't permenant. We are doing scenery after we get all the trac laid. we will probobly use a grass mat
@jamesstarkey Ya we will probobly do that. But we didn't get one just yet because we wanted to get the basic track layout down before scenery. But ya he did mention that :)
