If its any consolation, when I shoot and edit mine about a week from now, my girlfriend will shoot the bullet and it will follow through until I matrix-dodge it :P

So, there is no way of getting a footage of a 180º camera rotation ! ^^

That would make sense if the speed of the slide was accurate.

But seeing as how blowback is from the slide's motion suddenly stopping, the blowback was a little fake.

Why would there be a recoil?

The recoil from a gun is way slower than a bullet. In the video the bullet just leaves the barrel by a foot or two. The recoil would start way later. If the pistol shot would be real, the shooter would not even had heard the shot or noticed it firing by the time the video ends.

Look at some slow-mo pistol shooting and you will see.

They took the core concept and then had to recreate something of their own. I'm not makin fun of the kid..The tutorials are great and I have done them myself when starting out to learn techniques of After Effects. I wish I knew how to do this at that young of an age. I'm sure this kid will grow being great at visual effects...
