Because it can be done in a way that is funny (see BYU Library video) & in a way that is not (see Librarians do Gaga) & I think this particular video trends towards the way that is not funny.
Once again, this is an unoriginal, unfunny video designed to promote libraries which is only funny to a select few library staff while the rest of us are forced to suffer the embarrassment of stuff like this. It's a 21st century version of an grumpy old woman with a bun & a shawl who habitually shushes everyone.
@thisguysvideos "Once again"? Exactly how many videos are promoting libraries in ways that are embarrassing to you? I'm no librarian, but I thought this was fantastic.
@waiting4more There are more videos like this than you realize. LIbrarians in the past 5 years have made many attempts to appear cool with ham-handed imitations of Internet memes. Google "Old Spice LIbrarian" for maybe the best one of its kind; but sorry, @thisguysvideos has a definite point. Videos like this backfire, especially when students see them.
@hmcnally Wrong! Librarians are expressive creative and brilliant. These are not attempts to appear cool. Anything in their dress appear hipsterish? Sure Libraryman is an obvious lowpoint in all of this but still... @thisguysvideos
@EarlyLAPunk I agree with you about librarians (expressive, creative, and brilliant). It is, however, tiresome to see them continue to ape pop culture rather than making something original. I'd like to see a librarian come up with something actually new that goes viral, a la Dewey the Library Cat (I know that's a real story, but it was still beautiful).
@thisguysvideos Well, I'm flattered that an assignment we spent 2 days working on has gotten enough exposure to merit a taste of the infamously typical "Youtube Comments". We are well aware of the need to bust the Bun-and-Shawl Stereotype, and I doubt 3 minutes of tongue-in-cheek humor is going to wreck that. I think there's room enough on youtube for all of us (commercial parodiers and lip-synchers alike) to be a little embarrassing, unoriginal, and unfunny in our own ways. All in good fun!
the life of a librarian is not as boring as i thought. nice humorous video!

@thisguysvideos: You might not be a moron in real life-- I don't know-- but you comment like one. This is great. Lighten up!

Brilliant! The next in line (after Study like a scholar, scholar) of library promotional videos destined to go viral. Librarians rule the world!
