  • This song really speaks to me. Living with autism all my life has been really difficult. This song is basically the story of my life, i kept to myself and found it hard to go through each day.

So to all those who hate this song you obviously dont know the pain of being alone everyday of your life like we have. Just may be when you think about your life and compare it to our lonely life of solitute and fear. You may grow a heart.

  • I saw Dream Theater for the first time in my life at Hovet @ Stockholm a couple of weeks ago, and I've never been so happy! ^^

I've been listening to Dream Theater since I was 11, and now I'm 23, and hand to god, there's no better band in the world!

And I've gotta say, Mangini is the tippedy-top of DT-material, but nobody can replace our dear Portnoy.

  • @SgtDeepshit I miss Mike Portnoy, you can say that he was a big part of Dream theater's brain. Also I love his sick drumbeats and his voice. Listen to ''The best of times'' with Portnoy on vocals. So damn beautiful! /watch?v=YS2trjjFZ_U

Greetings from the south of Sweden!

  • @Gurkmassa Redan hört den you bastard ;D

  • This song starts good, great. But then James goes onto high notes with his voice (on 'lost within himself' and 'when will he break out') and suddenly it's all more than awesome.

  • @grisznik For a second there, I thought you were going to go all Labrie-Hater on me. Am I the only one who hears absolutely nothing wrong with his voice? Some them live last year, and they sounded phenomenal.

  • @ChubbyGregLord

No, I don't think there's anything wrong with his voice either.

It's just that in this song it is cool from the beginning but then there is a big increase in intensity when he goes on to 'lost within himself' and I liked that.

  • @grisznik Oh, I love that part as well, no need to explain yourself. I'm just upset with all the so called Dream Theater fans hating on LaBrie. I think that his voice really suits this band.

  • @ChubbyGregLord

I agree, he has an awesome voice. And I think that the band did well, choosing him after the auditions in 1990. Although you can hear that now he's near 50 years of age he can't sing high as easily as he could when he was younger.

  • @grisznik I say the this band itself has one or two good albums left before the decide to retire or something like that. There's nothing wrong with that, though. They've had a good run, and I feel the A Dramatic Turn of Events was a solid album. I saw them live for the first time last year, and you can still put on a great show. LaBrie was decent, but my only criticism I could offer him is that he should aspire to be a better front-man like Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden. But, I digress. Go, DT.

  • I like This song by Peter Gabriel, but its called 'Solsbury Hill' not 'Solitary Shell'. Duh!!! (;

  • This sounds like a futuristic version of one of those relaxing songs they put in videos about nature.

  • The song is simply constructed, the melody is a work of genius, the lyrics are the voice of god, everything in the song fits perfectly with everything else. This is also excellent as a smaller part of the bigger whole.

  • This song kinda describes me as a person. I'm a bit of a schizoid and suffer from social anxiety. I'm pretty much in my own solitary shell.:/

Such a great song, I'm glad I found it! :D

  • Fucking like whores.

  • I Stop my porn to hear this.

  • This song should theinternational asperger anthem.

  • @metalhead3671 Damn straight. I have Asperger's too. No, that does not mean we have burgers up our asses lol. It's mainly a social disability that also tends to affect motor coordination. It is on the autism spectrum. We are, by definition, not mentally retarded.

  • @imawesome432 "Burgers up our asses?" Lol what the hell are people coming up with these days? Thanks for clarifying Aspergers for the ignorant.

  • @ChubbyGregLord I'm just being weird lol.

  • As a Canadian, I apologize on behalf of my nation for Justin Bieber. Canada hopes America and the world abroad accepts the following compensation for the terror we have caused:

    James LaBrie

    Rush

    The Guess Who

    The Tragically Hip

Some of the guys from Steppenwolf

    Hart

Frig... there's a bunch more whose names escape me...

  • @imawesome432 Rush is enough ;D

  • I have no autism whatsoever but I went through a lot in my life and went through counseling. I get bullied alot and I'm an outcast. I don't to parties however still I hangout with my friends and stuff. This song goes out to the outcasts. :)) This would always be one of my fave songs along with Black Veil Brides' Knives and Pens, and other songs

  • Wow. Solsbury Hill rip off.

  • @rudal90 Ha ha, wow, I didn't think I'd get ANY likes. I must say, I am impressed. To be thruthful (and you probably already know this) I only wrote that as a joke, just to see how many likes I could get. And I'm not disappointed, you all proved your worth. I adore this song, one of the best songs by Dream Theater. Dream Theater For the World!

  • @AriochStarr hahaha, ya, i got it.. no one can make us hate Dream Theater., not one bit.

  • @rudal90 Yeah, I've noticed that DT's fans are harder than anyone else, if you get my meaning...

  • @AriochStarr indeed. I don't know exactly but there's a rumour that they'll held concert in my country.

  • @rudal90 Aw, you lucky son of a gun! If they came to my hometown, ALL their tickets would be bought by me. Do me proud, brother!

  • @AriochStarr hahaha, it's very emotional to know they will concert here. i can imagine. XD. maybe soon or later they'll come there. I'll do my best, brother

  • this one of the best songs like if you agree

  • Funny thing is this song hits so close to home and I listen to it, and if I listen to the instrumentation, it makes me happy.

If I listen to the lyrics, it's a major downer.

So it's on my happy and sad playlists.

  • idk about you guys but i feel that i can relate to this song

    pretty freaky really..

  • This remind me of me but im a girl XD

  • Did anybody else notice how much a simple drum beat can change a song?

  • @gunnerforever89 You should contact the computer support and have the caps-lock-problem fixed.

  • Anyone know, where i can find a instrumental version of this song? Will be grateful if someone know :)

  • i wish i could know, if petrucci has like, a favorite song to play.. he would be like.. "OH WELL, THATS AN INTERESTING QUESTION, BUT U KNOW THAT WE ARE MORE LIKE A BAND SO WE LIKE EQUAL, ALL THE SONGS, SO....." ohh.. nvm Mr. Petrucci ¬¬

  • nice song ;)

  • i should probably expand on that - i was deaf for the first 5 or so years of my life, and while i got better i found it very hard to talk and, hence, interact with people. i find little interest in most things except music. but it's not all doom and gloom - i got better at social skills and stuff and passed time by learning the bass.

moral of the story - learn the bass! not really

  • this is a song about me

  • When all hope is gone, this piece of music can cheer up any pessimistic, sad soul.. Don't cry..

not bashing or anything as i have respect for every fellow DT fan :)

    just found it rather mad.

  • @MrGamerBazer because, why would you comment about how you don't have a certain mental hinderance?

  • @loreizzle395 what hinderance, i'm normal its all of you who are different

  • @MrGamerBazer Because disc 2 of six degrees deals with mental illnesses or differences, This song deals with Asperger's syndrome there is nothing "mad" about it..........people with Autism relate to this piece........

  • The fact that I am Bipolar and clinically depressed with a hint of ADHD makes this song hit home quite well <3

  • 6 people lost a bet

  • Climbing up on solsbury hill by Peter Gabriel

  • When will he break out of his solitary shell?? :(

  • They wrote a song about me! (Yup, I'm autistic).

  • song of myself

  • I can't sympathize with the song, but it sounds very beautiful. It can remind anyone of their childhood, because it brings the feel of being young, imaginative, and curious with it's sound.

  • @taysongnian because aspies relate to this song very well because they have a hIgh functioning autistic disorder that while making them intelligent and mostly normal they have a very hard time recognising normal social behaviors and have repetitive interests, I relate to this song because I am basically described in this song often by myself doing something and when i am disturbed I become furious often to the point were i break object =(

  • @SpazticGamer objects*

  • Is this song about me?

  • Jesus, this is like the official song for people with aspergers syndrome or something.

  • I don't have Aspergers, pretty sure I have avoidant personality and social anxiety disorders, but I feel that I can still relate to this song. It's the only the one that ever makes me cry; Alcest comes close.

  • one of my favorite music..... Awesome!!!

  • this song is also on the video gassy pets. check it out !

  • Meravigliosa! Questa canzone riesce a trasmettere serenità a chi la ascolta!

Every time I hear this song then I feel... GOOD! <3

  • I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome as a child and my teenage years were easily the worst years of my life due to the fact that I rarely left the house and missed out on all my fellow teenager's experiences (partying, doing things with friends, school, getting new hobbies etc). This part of Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence holds a place in my heart due to how much it has related to my life and described me to a tee.

Thank you, Dream Theater, for crafting such an incredible song.

  • @UberCoolBen I know how you feel, I used to (still probably do) have Asperger Syndrome . Now I'm 13 and I am mostly sociable though sometimes I do have a "solitary shell"

  • @UberCoolBen I figured out I had the asperger's syndrome when I was in high school, my childhood were the worst years of my life always got bullied cuz I was odd and yeah high school years are hard but now I have more than one friend, my friend from primary school is still my best friend and this song is amazing just to explain that it's a hard life it's always be one of my fave songs ^^

  • @ I have asperger's syndrome too and everything you said applies to me. I love Dream Theater and Iove this song. I know your pain man.

  • @UberCoolBen i to have Asperger's Syndrome i am at the moment 16 years old and i tend to be alone alt. i work alot on my soscial skills and try to blend in with the other people at school. It some times gets really hard.

  • @UberCoolBen Wow, same story for me, dude. Pretty cool that this song helped someone else through exactly the same thing.

  • @UberCoolBen I am a quite normal guy, and I still like the song

  • omg this song is so damn good!!

  • 6 people here have serious music taste issues. Most talented band on the face of the earth...DT

  • "As a man, he was a danger to himself..." Just gets me every time. "Solitary Shell" is the story of my life - even the second part...especially the second part.

  • calming song!

  • This is my song when I wanna be alone. This is one of the rare instances when i consider a song my "friend", cuz this song seems to know a lot more than people do about the desire to back up and cower when i'm pressured to move forward.

  • This is my lucky song.

    Is awesome, on
