Yeah, you can't use material to even promote a band. Like this would make WMG lose any money. It's not their music anyways. I can always email the original video with the music. The video has been up for a year, god forbid if anyone hears the music and inquires about the bands!
I saw Leaves Eyes in concert because they were opening for Blind Guardian and Liv looked like a horrible mess on stage! I was lik "omg, wtf happened to her!?"
Creo que el video en ningun lado dice "Heavy metal" el metal es muy amplio tiene una gama de sub-generos muy extensa, si te inclinas por una esta bien, pero no puedes descategorizar a los demas,. esto es Gothic Metal y Doom Metal.
I don't, necessarily, disagree with your claim; however, it certainly begs the question: what is it, exactly, that typifies the "metal" genre? And, please, if you would be so kind, do not bother posting bands as examples, because that does not actually answer my question. I want something far more concrete -- that is, a specific chord progression, the presence (or absence) of certain instruments, or perhaps a specific pattern that all metal songs follow.
let me explain, you must be a "typical" metalhead, who cares nothing for the art or finesse of music but only for the scream and loud noise. basically, you have no interesting taste in talent.
What makes metal being metal is really depending of what exact genre. If you take Black Metal, the high pitch screaming is typical, the darkness of the song/lyrics. If you take Death Metal, it's the brutallity of the music, the speed, the massive solos, the low pitch vocals. If you take Speed and Power Metal, it's mostly the chord progression, the lyrics that (for most of the bands) take part in a Battle field, or in medieval times (take for exemple Rhapsody, Symphony X)
the basic idea of symphonic metal and cultural metals is to combine rocks and metal with operatic and cultural musics sometimes the effect is mild sometimes its is hard edge but it is still a type of metal metal is based on music arrangement styles instrument types and such
Maybe I am wrong but based on your choice of what you are calling "metal" you must be very young and not know much about metal music. If you are talking about Metal, Ann Boleyn is probably the first important metal female because she didn't use sex to sell her music and was the first to sing as powerful as a guy. that is METAL...this is more like pop-rock.
Ann Boleyn is still a cliche image of what females in metal are "supposed" to be. ...Awful music not to mention, as well. There's different kinds of "metal" music in the world and not everything has to follow the same styles of growling and extremely loud guitars.
Ok, I feel like a mega-hypocrite cause now Anneke is probably my favourite vocalist along with sandra schleret! I regret all the things I said about Anneke before cause now I love her voice!
Thanks, Great song. Btw can u tell me from which album should I start listening to The Gathering (I like gothic metal most, don't really enjoy the "modern" type like Theatre of Tragedy after Aegis)
Mandylion and Nighttime birds are probably where you'd start off at if you are interested in The Gathering. Nighttime birds seems more dreary than Mandylion, but Mandylion is a timeless classic.
Within Temptation's Enter is quite similar to older Theatre of Tragedy albums. The guitars, keyboards, growling and singing and over-all atmosphere is very dreary and chilling.
I made this tribute before Anette was announced in Nightwish, and I included her in my second tribute. I don't care for Tarja's voice. And I know what kind of music W.T. play and it varies from each album.
10 minutes is the limit and I challenge you to do better. I hate when people bitch about things like this and don't take the time to do things the way they want them done. It's a tribute and I chose to make it the way I wanted to.
Tarja's range is very loud but very limited. Anneke owns everyone, unless it's Anette and there's a tie. So much technique. Vibeke is indeed better than Tarja. The first song is a Dead Can Dance cover song entitled "In Power We Entrust The Love Advocated". It's found on the B-Sides release.
Yeah I agree her voice is loud, but she isn't aversatile singer , Anneke is an awesome singer and she does owns Tarja thats a fact. Anette IMO is pretty good, What I like is that Vibeke didn't just always sing operatic like on illumination she uses more techniques
and thanks for the info, I'll try and find that song:)
Vibeke's style is what Tarja always lacked. Tarja gets way too much credit. People don't understand that opera singers don't need microphones and only a few people are actually talented enough to sing opera. Tarja had to have classical lessons to give her a voice, where-as Sharon den Adel, Anette Olzon, Liv Kristine, Anneke Van Giersbergen and Cristina Scabbia have natural voices and they utilize them in different ways. Practice and experience is key. Not just classical voice lessons.
Classical voice lessons ? What's so wrong with that? You act like that manufactured Tarja. Jimmy Paige took guitar lessons to become one of the greatest rock guitarists. And what's so wrong with taking lessons to help you improve and learn how to expand your voice?Nothings wrong.
Nothing is wrong with that, but it isn't required to be a great singer. Tarja sings in classical style which is what made her so successful.. That style works, but with metal, it's very monotonous. And Tarja seems to flat live. A natural voice can sound better, even off key, but sung the way Tarja sings, it sounds very bad and very noticable. And Jimmy Paige is not one of the greatest rock guitarists. There's so many guitarists out there, it's certainly ignorant to say such.
for christ's sake.. metal doesnt mean heavy metal, and it surely doesnt mean those bands with guys singing like they are castrated and using pink tight pants.
congrats on the video, great bands indeed.
ever heard of Ethereal? they have a really good vocalist as well.
NO, NO, NO, NO and NO. And NO need to thank me, I am well aware that their absences were a favor. All but Simone (who I find, to a lesser extent, agreeable) just don't begin to compare.
KMFDM is an industrial-rock band, so Lucia Cifarelli is technically not a "female voice of metal". However she rocks. Good choice of pics although I would use one of the WWIII tour, you know with the latex outfit, very sexy. =).
Liv Christine is awesome too, don't care about the rest.
I saw her in that latex outfit. Needless to say... Very stunning. KMFDM have a lot of metal sounds in their later releases, like WWIII. Rather than the old stuff, where it was all beats, they hardened the music up a bit recently. KMFDM are more metal/rock/industrial since Lucia joined back in the Attak days.. Plus, I just felt like adding her because she has an aggressive persona and kicks ass.
Liv is awesome, but I really would recommend Anneke. Her voice is very beautiful and very powerful.
Most of it is Power Metal, which has a sub-genre of symphonic metal, which includes Leaves Eyes, Withing Temptation, and Liv Kristien. This sort of music does not sound like the traditional death metal most people clumsily call "Metal"......Gees, do some research before you open your mouth guys..common
i'm sorry -- i'm not here to talk trash, but NO "female voices of metal" list is complete without Kimberly Goss of "Sinergy" or "Doro". do your homework!
This NOT metal.....where did all the great singers go? These bands have to resort to getting singers from the school choir? This shit is just....wrong
You said "This shit is... wrong." The music is what is "metal". Vocals don't necessarly need to be applied to metal music in growling and screaming form. The fact that these vocalists actually use their voice properly means so much more to the fans than that of some typical growler, male or female. If everyone had the same style of vocals, there would be no need for so many bands.
Another need for mention is that these bands are from Europe, which implies the music composition styles are different, some more bombastic, some more experimental. American "Metal" is usually the same old shit, with the exceptions of Type O Negative and Lamb of God. It's not uncommon for someone to actually sing above guitar distorted style of music in a lot of these European bands.
I grew up listening to some great singers. The sound of a choir style voice with metal guitars in the back just doesn't sound right to me. The bands I grew up on all had very unique vocalists. These women sound literally like the girls in high school band choir......not my cup of tea at all
To who are you refering to as a great singer? I hear a lot of emotion and distinction in these voices. While not gruff and high pitched like females of rock bands years ago, singing in a metal band is hard to do. One's voice has to with-stand distortion and powerful drums, and for more progressive bands, the bass too. It's a different approach to have a female sing in hard rock/metal bands, but it's a beautiful combination. Especially if there's male counterparts. Music should be unlimited.
It's cool....they can sing no doubt. Just not my idea of metal. I like some aggression in the music and having someone who sounds like they just came off of the school choir tour sounds very wrong to me in a "metal" band.
Anette, school choir? Let us realize that metal comes in many categories. No, this style of singing wouldn't go well with bands like Lamb of God, any black metal, death metal, ect... With progressive,'gothic', or symphonic metal, singing works well. Especially with Nightwish and Within Temptation.
I'm not even so ok with a female in a metal band :P I'm old school and therefore I guess I'm set in my ways to a point. I grew up with the original metal bands from the 70's/80's. That should give you more of an idea of where I'm coming from.
Then you're refering to male falsetto and power ballads, classic rock. Mostly male singing, guitar solo's and blue's influenced bass lines. (Black Sabbath.) Iron Maiden could be considered as an influence for bands like Nightwish, and other male dominated bands. Maybe you'll come around to appreciating the atmosphere and romance in these bands. If not, it's all good. Music changes over time, and it's over-due that females don't get stuck singing pop tunes and strumming a guitar.
In most bands like Nightwish, Theatre of Tragedy, Tristania, older Lacuna Coil, older Within Temptation, the female sings and the males either mutter, grumble or growl. Not a bad edition, but it's easy to distinguish who sings the melody.
You should take a listen to Ram-Zet and The Project hate. The kind of singing you hear here can be used in Death metal and Black metal. You just have to know how to do it right. ;)
don't insult unless you can do better than you can say what you want. Don't compare them to other bands either each band have thier own style of music and playing. fairies? maybe you should reconsider theya re better than you in more ways than one. dont insult anyone without a reason just cause you dont like them.
wheres otep shamaya? or kittie? get a clue on what are decent female metalheads, not these fucking fairies, before u decide to go and bother making a video and posting it.
Otep suck period. And Kittie? Have you seen Kittie at all lately? And you want to call these woman fairies? You can like 'GET A CLUE, OMG!' -Douche. So much whining and complaining just because I made a tribute the way I saw fit to do so.. Don't like it, make your own. I'd rather not add this nu-metal shite... At least these woman actually can sing.
I never heard of KMFDM before and I must say I liked them a lot. And you put some awsome singers there, they are all beautiful and talented. Specially Liv and Anneke.
All of these girls have an special place in my heart xD (sorry for the bad english, it's not my native language :P)
Will you make a second part? I would love to watch :P.
I made an update with Liv and Sharon on Female Voices of Metal 2. Simone is slowly growing on me and as talented as she is, I've just been listening to these ladies in particular for years and still I am blown away by their vocals.
Anneke is amazing. She recently sang on Moonspell's new album. The song is called "Scorpian Flower." Sharon and Anneke are both beautiful and amazing singers.
Simone Simons is great. But I dont think he did forgot her, there are hundreds of great female metal singers (Tarja, Floor Jansen, Charlotte from Delain, Lisa Middelhauve etc).
Charlotte has a lovely voice. There's just so many like you said. It's quite common in Europe, but in the U.S., to have a female vocalist is sort of a commodity. It's all about looks.
great video.i like it!!this girls are amazing!!!i know that you can't put everybody in this video, but i beg you-add sabine!!!!!she is my idol and i love her!!!!R.I.P.sabine!!i know i should make a video about sabine, but i don't know:)but if you do something about sabine, please let me know!:***great vid once again!!
Totally! Why everyone seems to forget about Vibeke anyway? (Not that forgetting Tarja is weird...^^) I'm not questionning the tastes of anyone, but honestly... It's like when someone tells me that Amy has a better voice than... Sharon. (I nearly killed that person on the spot)^^
Amy vs. Sharon? When Amy isn't choking herself on the low notes, she's killing herself with the drawn out high pitches. All throat and no diaphragm. Sharon, on the other hand, is equiped to sing modern "pop", folk, rock, metal, and classical. Versatility for ya. And all self-taught. She uses her natural sound with certain techniques only achieved through practice.
I am not the one preferring Amy, right?^^ I don't like Evanescence - I liked it when i knew no better... (At that time I didn't even know Within Temptation nor Nightwish.^^) But I get upset because this very same person is getting all frisky when one talks about Anette replacing Tarja, saying that Anette can't replace her and all... Really, I can't understand.
Evanescence are alternative rock. Maybe you realized that you like the sound of 'symphonic metal'. W.T. are really good and have a lot of diverse sounding songs. And Nightwish have power in their music. Evanescence could put anyone to sleep. Anette's voice is also powerful and is a right step for Nightwish. Good Vibrato and power, but still beautiful and versatile. She sounds so natural and not forced when she sings. Just like Anneke. Tarja is singing Pop/Rock now. D.P.P was an Epic album.
Tarja sings in the same way as she did with Nightwish. But now, the music does no longer serve as a 'counterpart' And yes, I realized that I like 'symphonic metal', thank you very much. Xp Though I don't know anything about singing, I still could sort that out.^^ But why are you telling me this?
The Silent force has wonderful tracks on it. It's more metal than Mother Earth. ME is a very good album, but there's only a few tracks on it that are heavy. Which isn't a bad thing because WT have a lot of versatility and change up the atmosphere in their music in every album.
Well, if you really think TSF is remotely metal or even heavier than ME, I guess I cannot do anything but to disagree that the most boring and maisntream album even is even metal... Even "Deceiver of Fools" is heavier than the all crap that is played on TSF.
Just my opinion. Within Temptation died for me so, they used to play metal music until 2004, you're actually the first person who seems even say TSF is metal or heavier than their older stuff :) Guess it's an interesting opinion.
Where? What video? Tarja's solo, Floor is in After Forever, and Simone sings for Epica. As for their where-abouts in the video, obviously they are absent. TRIBUTE FOLKS!
KMFDM sucks! ;)

It's not uncommon for someone to actually sing above guitar distorted style of music in a lot of these European bands.

I grew up listening to some great singers. The sound of a choir style voice with metal guitars in the back just doesn't sound right to me. The bands I grew up on all had very unique vocalists. These women sound literally like the girls in high school band choir......not my cup of tea at all
alienbusa 3 years ago
A few of these bands are symphonic Metal, not the type of metal that Iron Maiden and Megadeath are.

It is metal you idiot.

viggoofcarpathia 3 years ago
To who are you refering to as a great singer? I hear a lot of emotion and distinction in these voices. While not gruff and high pitched like females of rock bands years ago, singing in a metal band is hard to do. One's voice has to with-stand distortion and powerful drums, and for more progressive bands, the bass too. It's a different approach to have a female sing in hard rock/metal bands, but it's a beautiful combination. Especially if there's male counterparts. Music should be unlimited.
viggoofcarpathia 3 years ago
It's cool....they can sing no doubt. Just not my idea of metal. I like some aggression in the music and having someone who sounds like they just came off of the school choir tour sounds very wrong to me in a "metal" band.
alienbusa 3 years ago
Anette, school choir? Let us realize that metal comes in many categories. No, this style of singing wouldn't go well with bands like Lamb of God, any black metal, death metal, ect... With progressive,'gothic', or symphonic metal, singing works well. Especially with Nightwish and Within Temptation.
viggoofcarpathia 3 years ago
Amen!
Qnap 3 years ago
I'm not even so ok with a female in a metal band :P I'm old school and therefore I guess I'm set in my ways to a point. I grew up with the original metal bands from the 70's/80's. That should give you more of an idea of where I'm coming from.
alienbusa 3 years ago
Then you're refering to male falsetto and power ballads, classic rock. Mostly male singing, guitar solo's and blue's influenced bass lines. (Black Sabbath.) Iron Maiden could be considered as an influence for bands like Nightwish, and other male dominated bands. Maybe you'll come around to appreciating the atmosphere and romance in these bands. If not, it's all good. Music changes over time, and it's over-due that females don't get stuck singing pop tunes and strumming a guitar.
viggoofcarpathia 3 years ago
Dude!, female voices in metal are the bomb and most of the time far better than their male counterparts...(just my humble opinion of course)
alanmt79 3 years ago
In most bands like Nightwish, Theatre of Tragedy, Tristania, older Lacuna Coil, older Within Temptation, the female sings and the males either mutter, grumble or growl. Not a bad edition, but it's easy to distinguish who sings the melody.
viggoofcarpathia 3 years ago
You should take a listen to Ram-Zet and The Project hate. The kind of singing you hear here can be used in Death metal and Black metal. You just have to know how to do it right. ;)
Epica124 3 years ago
don't insult unless you can do better than you can say what you want. Don't compare them to other bands either each band have thier own style of music and playing. fairies? maybe you should reconsider theya re better than you in more ways than one. dont insult anyone without a reason just cause you dont like them.
rieku 3 years ago
dude these bands are SHIT compared to OTEP!

OTEP is nu-metal garbage. Nothing to it...

Otep is below shit

wheres otep shamaya? or kittie? get a clue on what are decent female metalheads, not these fucking fairies, before u decide to go and bother making a video and posting it.
dimebagzhag 3 years ago
fairies? WTF do not insult Anneke or Cristina they are great
mytouniquet 3 years ago 2

I made an update with video's on Female Voices of Metal 2.. KMFDM are a powerful band and Lucia is mighty aggressive.

what about Floor or Vibeke?
They are much better than Simone
mytouniquet 3 years ago
Gawd, thanks for this vid.
<3 Liv <3
Oh, and Sharon den Adel (did I spell this correctly?) is lovely too. ^^
You may want to add Simone Simons of Epica.
Valephor 3 years ago
I made an update with Liv and Sharon on Female Voices of Metal 2. Simone is slowly growing on me and as talented as she is, I've just been listening to these ladies in particular for years and still I am blown away by their vocals.
viggoofcarpathia 3 years ago
lol, evanescence is no metal, so don't ask again...
And, Tarja? ;_;
Anyway, great video, I love Sharon and Anekke out of all this great voices (and deadly lovely girls...)

Anneke is amazing. She recently sang on Moonspell's new album. The song is called "Scorpian Flower." Sharon and Anneke are both beautiful and amazing singers.

You've forgotten Simone Simons from Epica...
Darthninjavader 4 years ago
I assure you that I haven't forgotten anyone.
viggoofcarpathia 3 years ago
Simone Simons is great. But I dont think he did forgot her, there are hundreds of great female metal singers (Tarja, Floor Jansen, Charlotte from Delain, Lisa Middelhauve etc).
Visse90 3 years ago
Charlotte has a lovely voice. There's just so many like you said. It's quite common in Europe, but in the U.S., to have a female vocalist is sort of a commodity. It's all about looks.

I do only like Sharon den Adel of these singers. I dont like the other bands, but I suppose Leaves' Eyes are quite good anyway.
I do prefer singers like Tarja Turunen, Lisa Middelhauve, Floor Jansen, Vibeke Stene and Simone Simons.
Visse90 4 years ago
Totally! Why everyone seems to forget about Vibeke anyway? (Not that forgetting Tarja is weird...^^) I'm not questionning the tastes of anyone, but honestly... It's like when someone tells me that Amy has a better voice than... Sharon. (I nearly killed that person on the spot)^^
palmtreehomonculus 3 years ago
Amy vs. Sharon? When Amy isn't choking herself on the low notes, she's killing herself with the drawn out high pitches. All throat and no diaphragm. Sharon, on the other hand, is equiped to sing modern "pop", folk, rock, metal, and classical. Versatility for ya. And all self-taught. She uses her natural sound with certain techniques only achieved through practice.
viggoofcarpathia 3 years ago
I am not the one preferring Amy, right?^^ I don't like Evanescence - I liked it when i knew no better... (At that time I didn't even know Within Temptation nor Nightwish.^^) But I get upset because this very same person is getting all frisky when one talks about Anette replacing Tarja, saying that Anette can't replace her and all... Really, I can't understand.
palmtreehomonculus 3 years ago
Evanescence are alternative rock. Maybe you realized that you like the sound of 'symphonic metal'. W.T. are really good and have a lot of diverse sounding songs. And Nightwish have power in their music. Evanescence could put anyone to sleep. Anette's voice is also powerful and is a right step for Nightwish. Good Vibrato and power, but still beautiful and versatile. She sounds so natural and not forced when she sings. Just like Anneke. Tarja is singing Pop/Rock now. D.P.P was an Epic album.
viggoofcarpathia 3 years ago
Tarja sings in the same way as she did with Nightwish. But now, the music does no longer serve as a 'counterpart' And yes, I realized that I like 'symphonic metal', thank you very much. Xp Though I don't know anything about singing, I still could sort that out.^^ But why are you telling me this?
palmtreehomonculus 3 years ago
You cared to comment. As did I? Thank you very much! All though I didn't understand your points. I was just commenting on the bands.
Tarja sings like she did on "Once". No operatic influence. She sounds quite bored.
viggoofcarpathia 3 years ago

Thanks folks. Tarja's voice is a bit trying but I am blown away by Anette's. Such a wise turn for Nightwish.

mytouniquet 4 years ago
LOL I like Evanescence, but they're not metal at all XD
ImaginaryVoncroy 4 years ago
I like everything, but you chose the worst album from WT, which isn't even metal...
ImaginaryVoncroy 4 years ago
The Silent force has wonderful tracks on it. It's more metal than Mother Earth. ME is a very good album, but there's only a few tracks on it that are heavy. Which isn't a bad thing because WT have a lot of versatility and change up the atmosphere in their music in every album.
viggoofcarpathia 4 years ago
Well, if you really think TSF is remotely metal or even heavier than ME, I guess I cannot do anything but to disagree that the most boring and maisntream album even is even metal... Even "Deceiver of Fools" is heavier than the all crap that is played on TSF.
Just my opinion. Within Temptation died for me so, they used to play metal music until 2004, you're actually the first person who seems even say TSF is metal or heavier than their older stuff :) Guess it's an interesting opinion.
ImaginaryVoncroy 4 years ago
Thank you. Glad to see some who like these vocalists without mentioning 'Amy Lee' or 'Tarja'.
