Would you thank your grandfather for all he and his comrades did for the liberation of Europe in general and Holland / the Netherlands (operation Market Garden - battle around Arnhem) in particular?
You can say to him that each year in September there is a remembrance ceremony in Arnhem, with paratroopers landing again (a few of them even beeing WW2 veterans..)
Babe Heffron from Easy commpany 506 PIR said that the real heroes were those who didnt come back from the war. That is true but we can say that all people in 101st who fought in the war did they come back or not they are heroes
the 101st airborne soldiers are not rangers, yes many of them have been to ranger school but no the rangers themselves belong to the 75th ranger regiment... but trust me the soldiers, especially the ones in the 187th and the 506th could sure as hell take on the role as a ranger... Its funny because Im 12, and yet I still know the Screaming Eagles, and the 101st 2nd battalion parachute infantry regiment of the fighting first, Easy Company

k i think my mind is made up. after watching this video and crying. i've decided i wanna be a paratrooper. i'd like to be a screaming eagle but i guess 82nd is cool to
My dad was in the 101st in WW II. I have a picture of him sitting at a table in front of the fireplace in Hitler's Eagle's Nest. The fireplace had yet to have pieces chipped out of it for souviners. Check Khelsteinhaus on the internet for images. You will notice the fireplace has pieces chipped out of the arch.
Is 101 Airborne the same army unit that commited atrocites in Iraq killing and raping innocent civilians ? Correct me if I'm wrong. Your responses are much appreciated.
All of you guys do know that the 101st don't jump out of planes anymore, only in training. They are now known as air assault. Helicopters have been more effective. But special operations, soldiers jump out of planes but only in groups of 6 or 7
i can truthfully say that these men are the only people to this day that have my full fledged respect along with everyone else who fought in this unforgetable war.
Awesome. My grandfather was in the 101st during WW2. From Normandy to Bastogne to Berchtesgaden. He was a paratrooper but I think was in one of the Glider regiments (327th/1-401st). It's ashame such a good division was deactivated after the war.
the movie BAND OF BROTHERS touches my heart! i love you all even im a pilipino and the us helped our country to fight in the times of ww2 I REALLY LOVE WW2 MOVIES!
My grandad was a 101st AB Paratrooper & faught in the Battle Of The Bulge. This was an excellent video! He also carried an M1A1 for those who know what that is.
You idiot the men in this video are the 1o1st and to themselfs they almost won WWII
And when the army was desperate fr a solution in the Battle of The Bulge they sent in the Airborne and by themsefls with thompsons m1 garand and carbine and 1or two Bazookas the fought and stood strait up and Pushed Stoped a 500000 men offensive that was equiped with tanks snow equipement and good guns.
The airborne had summer uniforms but they fought bravely and won
The americans are naming one of there aircraft carrier after 'WINSTON CHURCHILL'.Do you know that winston Churchill was a big supporter of NATO not the warsaw pact you suck up to and thank god was winston churchill smart to do business with the americans to beat the Germans not Stallin who couldn't make his mind up on which side of the fench he was going to sit on.Right wing Euroepe don't share ur thoughts on Putin.
Im not from the states so i was asking if US Airbourne Divisions are considered Elite over there. I dont wanna put down regular infantry or marines but the Paratroopers appear to be harder, especially passing selection. they also seem somewhat underrated compared to some other divisions in the military. btw i know there is a difference between any soldier/marine who is parachute qualified and a Full Member Paratrooper of an Airbourne Corps
@anpe1001 OK thanks. Btw, what does someone have to go through in the US Army in order to become a member of the 101st or 82nd Airbourne. Because in the UK the Parachute Regiment carry out the same role as the US Army Rangers and go through similar selection and training.
@UnleashedKane 101st is just a regular division like every other divison. And to be a paratrooper, you just go to the schooling and complete it. They are not elite regular, they are just regular soldiers, being a ranger is considered elite regular, then above that is special forces, then the best of the best is delta force. Also, 101st no longer parachute, they repell out of helicopters, it is 82nd that does parachuting.
thanks sv1164 , finally you're the 1st person that explained to me "clearly" what the US airbourne divisions are. I'd always wondered how they are trained compared to other units in the US military. But now I know they are very similar to other regular infantry in the US Army but with added Airbourne/Air assault training.
@blues9934 yea they're training was wayy harder than the regular infantry training and harder than the rangers , Marines , Everybody , they were the Elite of the Elite and only the finest could make it through , now in modern day they're training is not as hard and is equivalent to a regular infantry's unit
You know everyone is saying "Oh the 101st airborne is the greatest"
I've never liked them. I've always prefered the 82nd airborne. There was no 101st at Sicily, they had it easier than the 82nd at Market Garden.
The Bulge sure. But still.

Awesome. My grandfather was in the 101st during WW2. From Normandy to Bastogne to Berchtesgaden. He was a paratrooper but I think was in one of the Glider regiments (327th/1-401st). It's ashame such a good division was deactivated after the war.

My grandad was a 101st AB Paratrooper & faught in the Battle Of The Bulge. This was an excellent video! He also carried an M1A1 for those who know what that is.
motleyphuckincrue 1 year ago
To IHATEAMERICA
You idiot the men in this video are the 1o1st and to themselfs they almost won WWII
And when the army was desperate fr a solution in the Battle of The Bulge they sent in the Airborne and by themsefls with thompsons m1 garand and carbine and 1or two Bazookas the fought and stood strait up and Pushed Stoped a 500000 men offensive that was equiped with tanks snow equipement and good guns.
The airborne had summer uniforms but they fought bravely and won
now shut up

The americans are naming one of there aircraft carrier after 'WINSTON CHURCHILL'.Do you know that winston Churchill was a big supporter of NATO not the warsaw pact you suck up to and thank god was winston churchill smart to do business with the americans to beat the Germans not Stallin who couldn't make his mind up on which side of the fench he was going to sit on.Right wing Euroepe don't share ur thoughts on Putin.

Yes they can sometimes do that. But not very often ;)

UnleashedKane 2 years ago
@UnleashedKane The 101st Airborne is not a special force, they're Elite Regulars.
anpe1001 2 years ago 2
@anpe1001 OK thanks. Btw, what does someone have to go through in the US Army in order to become a member of the 101st or 82nd Airbourne. Because in the UK the Parachute Regiment carry out the same role as the US Army Rangers and go through similar selection and training.
UnleashedKane 2 years ago
@UnleashedKane 101st is just a regular division like every other divison. And to be a paratrooper, you just go to the schooling and complete it. They are not elite regular, they are just regular soldiers, being a ranger is considered elite regular, then above that is special forces, then the best of the best is delta force. Also, 101st no longer parachute, they repell out of helicopters, it is 82nd that does parachuting.
sv1164 1 year ago
thanks sv1164 , finally you're the 1st person that explained to me "clearly" what the US airbourne divisions are. I'd always wondered how they are trained compared to other units in the US military. But now I know they are very similar to other regular infantry in the US Army but with added Airbourne/Air assault training.
UnleashedKane 1 year ago
acually they were elite infantry somewhat like the rangers they recieved very intense trainiing much more hardened then regular infantry
blues9934 1 year ago 7
@blues9934 yea they're training was wayy harder than the regular infantry training and harder than the rangers , Marines , Everybody , they were the Elite of the Elite and only the finest could make it through , now in modern day they're training is not as hard and is equivalent to a regular infantry's unit
