@BlurDriver25 Yeah, the computer doesn't come with a hard drive or disk drive, so once you flip the off switch it's all gone forever! They did sell a program recorder that records your programs on cassette tape, but I haven't got one yet.
@jensworldrocks I think your grammar tells us who the real idiot is. Let me correct this for you: "Silly Billy, you got the beige one, they're for idiots." Don't be a jerk. Take an English class too, maybe then your insults might mean something.
Reminds me of manually putting in AR codes (before I found out I could copy and paste the codes on the computer) for some cheap, neat things. Just, AR is newer...
@UKRetroGames lol, man that would be frustrating! I still haven't got the extended basic cart, hope to get it soon because I want to try typing in more games on this, and the extended basic games are really short. It's really hard to get myself to type in anything on this without the Program Recorder to save all that hard work on, lol. I guess that's another thing I need to look into getting my hands on.
Wow, what dedication! The TI is not the most fun keyboard to type on. That seems like an awful lot of typing just for a game like that, but it was cool to see. I actually like the blast (some sort of laser?) that comes from the jet passing over head. Maybe there are some shorter games to try next time. :) Great video!
@niceandgames Yeah next time I'm going to actually set this computer up on a desk, can't believe I started that project on the floor. lol. That laser was really brutal, the code was pretty well documented tho - it prefers to strike where you last shot, other than that it's random. Pretty accurate tho! The extended basic games are a lot shorter, so when I get my hands on that cart I'm definitely going to see what those are like.
I actually prefer the later model. The power button was always better to me (its locataion on the top instead of in front, where I remember it getting lose/hard to keep the power on on many of the black & silver models). Using the TI on my present-day TV or in emulation on the PC ... plus trying software I could not afford back then ... is just so cool.
@GratedTopping This later model's power button does feel really sturdy, actually everything on this computer feels really well built. I originally had this hooked up to my HDTV, but in my opinion most of these old video game consoles and old computers look really blocky, almost ugly on newer TVs. I had to dig out one of my old CRT TVs to play around with this, lol. These computers are fun!
I didn't know they made a plain white version. This is one of the old computers I'd like to get some time, but I want the one with the aluminium and black case.
@shaurz Yeah I think this was a really late, cheaper model of the 99/4a. I've never seen one of these either and I prefer the look of the other one, but really can't complain when it's free! :D
Awesome video of your apartments floor! haha Super cool video, I remember playing someone elses TI branded computer, I have no idea if it was this one, but the graphics seemed similar. I really enjoyed it if I recall besides of course playing on a keyboard. Anyway, awesome video keep up the good work!
@mdmax09 Hehe yeah I never had one of these either, but a buddy of mine growing up did. We rarely messed around with it because we were too busy playing NES, but when we did we played the cartridges and used the really stiff joysticks.
I highly praise you to have such grueling patience to type ALL that code in basic. I made some crude text games on my old Tandy 1000 TX before the processor blew. I miss that old thing. Great video! Even for basic, this game sucks. Ever play those MS games on DOS, Nibbles and Gorilla? I used to be SO addicted to "NIbbles" which was of course "Snake". You're wife is pretty awesome to pick you up a retro system. I wish mine would do that, ha ha.
@TheDemoniusX I know man, typing that in was grueling to say the least. I got soooo fucking mad when I screwed up halfway through I about curb stomped the TI. I made some text games back in the day too, I don't think I ever finished an entire game though. I just looked up Gorillas and it looks soooo familiar. I bet I have played it, but I'd need to see it in action to be sure. Nibbles, I wouldn't remember if I played it... I've played literally hundreds of snake clones, lol.
Wow... I've seen some bad type-in BASIC games, and this is definitely among the worst! Considering how much code you actually had to put in, you'd at least expect something playable. Thanks for going through all of that for our entertainment, though! ;)
@HiroGaems My pleasure! All you guys here on YouTube have some really awesome videos; the least I can do is spend a couple nights typing in some random old school BASIC game verbatim. lol, you're right though, that game sucked ass!
Oh, ok. Thanks!

Wait when you turn it off, would you have to start all over again on typing the codes, or, not or what?

Can't you get a portable cassette recorder and use it's in jack to record to tape?
Sanosuke004 6 months ago
@Sanosuke004 It's a DB-9 to 3 - 3.5mm mono cables I believe. Something that I'll have to order, but yeah I think you can use any tape recorder.

I remember the old days when I typed on a TI-99/4a at a cousins place for a couple hours and played a game or two on it.
Take care.

You need to do a review on the game "Spectre". I think it is the best macintosh game of all time.

@TrevorLangowski I definitely will review the Spectre games at some point, they were amazing games.
