To get a bigger house :P? Who doesn't want a bigger house! -Im sure that if you saw his place you would agree with him. Judging from all his other videos. The dome is full of stuff.
Your place is looking great Jaimie, cold, mmm cold = good.
Over here in Sth Australia it is 40' Celsius, for a week running, which inspired me to clean our swiming pool. Which we are now heating (oh, its in ground and its like jumping in a bucket of ice) anyway.....there's a big eucalyptus tree next to it (on neighbours side) which drops leaves and stuff all over it. So we want to build a massive building over it, anyway, your still inspiring us all over here Jaimie = keep it up - u rock...:P
OHHHHH .... right i get ya .... nudge nudge wink wink, say no more ... It's just that where I live I need to apply for a permit to build a freakin dog house ... oh I just had an idea you should build some underground cold room stage place, that would be cool, no pun intended ...
hey jam, i still pursuing ur spider robot until episode 20, but i did subscribed to you so i just post some comments here since i saw this, keep it up man, u inspired me of purchasing my first robot kits, im not going to make a big one, because i'm not engineer, i'm AI programmer instead, but i'm sick of robots, i hope i can post some vids as well when i got it, i ll tell ya when i make it. keep it up with ur project i'd love to watch them when i'm down, because ur work just encouraged me!!
@papaonn Good work Papaonn, a lot of us started off watching Jaimies robot project and now just love seeing the updates on how his whole site is going.
Good on you for starting your own robot, i'm sure your programming skills will really come in handy.
I was just thinking about the fact that you call it a dome. A mathematical dome has no straight surfaces, so in theory, the only thing that is dome-like is the roof. (and of course the spring dome) The rest is a tall tube. And now with this outer shell, the dome is even more alike a grain silo. But still, it's better this way. A true dome is not very space efficient at the outer areas. I'm not saying your dome is not a dome. Just look at the US Capitol Dome. Straight walls... Keep it coming! ;)
I knew at least one person would misunderstand and click the thumbs down, not that I care... ;) But I don't see any negativity in my post, at all. I do say it's better Jaimies way than a true dome, and in other words if Jaimie calls it a palacial megadome, it's a freakin palacial megadome, whether it's a cube, sphere or even a pyramid! It's a piece of art.
Just out of curiosity, why did you decide to build the roof like that instead of making little insulated triangles? You're an inspiration to us all so don't ever quit :)
Now I see what you doing. Kinda cool. Not sure if your fall restraint system would actually help to kill you if you fell though. Might be safer just to fall and take your chances without that.
I love your etch a sketch clear mind to make room for cool stuff moves.

So... building a wooden structure around the dome. The place looks like a mushroom : )

Oh, so this gives him a new level or just expands the top level?
kahunabear 2 years ago
I dunno to be honest. Don't know if he have ever used that floor really. So at some level, it might be a new floor.
Mongo8Bongo 2 years ago
ya. the 4th floor is much more useable now. :-D
JMEMantzel 2 years ago
expands all the levels. and more insulation
JMEMantzel 2 years ago
yes! exactly! Oh... and the roof was leaking a bit. :-P

I agree with bobwd40! It would be pretty stellar. You're the adventurous type Jamius, zip line it. Should be one of your side projects.
masterFLASH102 2 years ago
Awesome!! Ever thought about setting up a zip line from the dome to the banana building? Cause that'd be sweet.

so when you live out in the middle of nowhere, do you not have to get building permits or follow codes or any of that nonsense?

"When I built this, I did not have in mind being able to easily take it apart"
I got a kick out of that one, I seam to say the same thing to myself on every project I undertake. (at least we know the stuff is well made, right?)
Be careful up there and continue rocking!
pumkinvine 2 years ago
ya. ha ha. It is nice when things don't come apart easily. ...most of the time. :-P

Probably when he realized he had a limited time window for the project. Trust me, the insulated triangle thing takes longer :P
edjorg 2 years ago
hee hee. actually, the triangles are easier. :-P I wanted roof overhang.
JMEMantzel 2 years ago
what a uhh.... "quit"?
heh heh. I wanted an overhang at the end of the roof. ...so rain, snow etc falls away from the dome. Dry spot. :-)
JMEMantzel 2 years ago
Wow that is a project and a half you have taken on!
Be careful!!
Cant wait to see it finished though :D
