  • nobody wished ms. pearl a happy birthday? happy birthday Janis. when I was a little girl I would sing along to my father and mothers records, and knew you were special. hope your happy now babygirl, you were beautiful♥

  • Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose..

"...somebody else has to take over"

    guess nobody did.

  • happy birthday janis <3

  • I remember singing this song with my dad every time we were in the car together since i was about 10, its been five years and its still one of my all time favourites, oh how i wish music like this was still created.

  • I freaking love her she's so crazy!!! :)

  • LOVE HER MUSIC MORE THAN ANY OTHER !!!!! SHE'S TH BEST EVER !!!!

  • I LOVE MY JANIS !!!

  • im 14 and i love this song and its meaning so dont be hatin on all 14 year olds

  • Comment removed

  • this was janis,s favourite song they used to sing it on the tour bus all the time

  • Seriously, get over your age. If you really appreciate this music, why must you have to say, I'm 14 and listening to this. Or whatever age you are. Like, yeah, okay, music existed before and you are hearing it now and you liked it, wow. Get over yourself and just comment with real comments about the song. No one cares about your age!

  • @Masshiroi lighten up dude peace and love

  • @Masshiroi The fact that a 14 year old is listening to Janis Joplin shows that real, timeless music is reaching generations. Your comment surely displays your ignorance. Why blast a kid for making a point about listening to music that was made and existed long before them? You didn't make a comment about the song either, just as you chastised him/her for. Regardless of your age, grow and get a life... try and make a friend or two someday. BTW, Janis did an amazing job with this song Kris wrote.

  • @ronnie3704 I think what's wrong here is that people get offended right away...ok, whatever...I was hoping someone would see that and be like yeah, age doesn't matter, I'm going to enjoy this music.LOL the irony, a person telling me to get a life, insulting me New Year's Eve....I'm not a dude...someone else said I was on here...I'm a 21 year old female...which shouldn't even matter....As if I don't know what it means for a young person to feel the need to say their age...Out!

  • Janis is and always be the Queen of Rock n Roll...RIP

  • the other day i got told i looked like janis joplin.. i almost cried <3 she was soo beautiful in my eyes and so down to earth she didnt care what anyone thought of her she just wanted to express herself

  • I would not want to imagine my life without having known Janis Joplin's music.

  • God I love this lil' Ghost of ours!

  • Any mofo that trashes Janice may they burn in hell, she was and is awesome, RIP!

  • shes not even singing her hardest and it still makes my shed a tear. when she actually screams it blow most peoples mind... the rest dont have minds to blow.

  • Bought her "Pearl" album in the late sixtie's when I was just 17!

  • Luv it

  • daniel brou

  • cant imagine what her voice would be today lol, RIP JJ

  • it actually hurts me that this legend died so young, wish at the very least id seen her perform, she was dead before i was born, just goes to show, real legends span the generations!

  • Are you aware that she recorded this song the day that she died? She never heard it played on air. You're still missed Janis.

  • @normaneddie that's a flat out lie. she recorded this Sept. 23, 1972. that would be the day "before" dumbass.schooled ya.

  • @1NiggaTBone ...Wow, you're kinda' mean there sir. I don't lie. Perhaps a slight mistake though. When I stated ' she died that night' I didn't specify 'after midnight' which certainly would have been the next day....but, it WAS still dark outside! The point is, she never heard it on the air after recording it the 'previous day'...since you have a need to be quite exacting.

  • @1NiggaTBone She died in 1970 you idiot.

  • Thanx the vocal quality is fantastic, you can hear her teeth clack and lips smack, awesome !

    Thanx bra'

  • God, why do I have to be born in 1996? Why do I had to miss out the best decade?!

  • that was amazing, all pared down like a first studio take, just to see how it hangs together. does anyone know when and where this was recorded and who accompanied her? her yrs of musical training come thru, hitting every note dead on and then twisting it for all the emotion it's worth, impeccable rhythm and a phrasing with a life all its own.

  • For all the people arguing about the merits of Janis Joplin with this song, you do realize that she didn't write this song right? It was written by Kris Kristofferson. But that doesn't matter, it's a great song, just enjoy it and stop arguing about stuff that doesn't matter.

  • Evo proslavljene izvedbe Janis Joplin!!!!!!

  • My drunk song. It's great.

  • Im sitting watching this with tears rolling down my cheeks, we miss you janis, god bless you

  • @hobgoblinn

    Ditto!!! God Bless you Janis.

  • Check out my cover of this song if you want to! One of my all time favorite songs!!

  • damn, people get into some silly fights around here. fucking stupid. can anyone point me in the direction of a live version of Janis singing this? this sounds good but the vid isn't that song, so yea. I'd appreciate any help. ty xoxoJunkie~~

  • Honestly, I could mention two dozen female singers, who could sign this more professionally, more accurately, more articulately.

But I'd be hard put to mention one (except for the one Rachell Ferrell) who could convey more message than Janis Joplin.

    THANK YOU for sharing!

  • hardcore...my girl!

  • ..........................i mean no disrespect when i say "it is more .....expression......than ....talent......that made her one of the best entertainers to grace the MIGHTY PLANET earth

  • It's an old old country western song, my grandpa and mom b4 grandpa passed used to preform this song my my liked Janis's version and well the band had to follow the singer :D

  • Nice shakin' at 3:37

  • Long Live Janis! RIP Sweet Girl. You are a part of my life...forever.

  • janis joplin is the best

  • i love peace. i love hippies. 60s. i love janis. and this song. oh no.. this song. i sung it today the whole day!!! its so.. nobody could ever comment on this rightly. you cant comment it. feel it.

  • Gone too soon at 27, Janis, you will be dearly missed forever. The legend will always outlive the artist.

  • It takes a lot of courage to trash the work of a dead person, ssmith5342. You are obviously an immature little child. When you grow up someday, you'll get it. Her voice was rough from booze and smoking stuff, but it was always full of passion. As for her looks, who cares? You probably think Adele sucks because she's overweight. Jimi Hendrix was ugly as sin, but he had more musical talent than anyone who ever walked this earth. Shallow people like you will never get it...

  • @SkynyrdTim Passion schmassion. She couldn't hold a goddamn tune and was a fucking druggie through and through, which hurt her musically. Sorry, performers need to keep up with appearances to be worth viewing. Adele is as fat as Janis Joplin is ugly, but at least she can sing well. I appreciate real music not pussy ass hippie shit.

  • @ssmith5342 so, what exactly do you consider "real" music. you cant talk trash without representing for what you believe in. Who do you think is a great artist? And what makes music great isnt necessarily how good one person thinks the singer is but how it affects the masses. Millions of people loved Janis and still do, whether you think she was good or not, her music made an impact and that is what made it great.

  • @ShadesOfMyEternity Real music? Music that is the product of years of practice and precision. Music that can bring both passion and skill. Hippie is simplistic shit that people write when they're high. They don't actually bother to work on their singing, or to master musical complexity. You want real musicians? Try Andrea Bocelli, now there is someone who can sing and who also cares about hygiene. A real rock musician? Youtube Jeff Loomis, Miles of Machines. He can actually play guitar.

  • @ssmith5342

Hey guy, It's me! Y'know, the one from the other Janis videos you decided to shit your small minded ass-juice all over. But it's ok friend, I get it now. You're not a sad troll, you're a hipster! You piss on what the masses like because you believe we're all small-minded imbeciles with no taste. And that's cool, because I don't know what you get out of being a pathetic, pretentious, prick! That's alliteration. I may listen to hippy music but atleast I know my language techniques! :D

  • @FangedTsuruya Wah, wah, wah. Hahahahahaha. Oh don't cry poor baby. Here is my impression of you: "wah, wah, oh no... don't insult my precious craptastic hippie music. It is all I have. Leave Janis alone, just leave Janis alone. Wah, wah." I guess at least you know your language techniques. WTF!!!!?

  • @ssmith5342

Leav Janis alone, just leave Janis alone! x)

  • @ssmith5342

Seriously though, when do you plan to leave? Soon I hope, my sweet hipster lady.

  • @ssmith5342 And you are a raving beauty? Heidi Klum??, Tyra Banks maybe..what makes you abetter human and any one of us or any other person..we all breath the same air..all put are pants on the same way..1 leg at a time..Let ye who has no sins cast the 1st stone...r u throwing rocks cuz if u r..What a lie...

  • @SkynyrdTim

Thank you for saying what was on my mind. RIP Janis. :(

  • @SkynyrdTim why do you even bother to respond and explain such people? do you think Janis and her divine talent need any protection from such ingornat critics?

  • @SkynyrdTim I totally agree with you. That's just disrepsectful when ppl trash talk dead artists. I'm only 22, but I would rather listen to the doors, janis joplin, jimi hendrix and other classic rock any day than a lot of the now music

  • @SkynyrdTim With regards to her voice, I think it was pretty damn strong. There aren't many women who can sing Piece of My Heart with the kind of passion Janis Had. She is definately one of the greats. I agree with you about the shallow comment.....will these teeny boppers ever grow up? Talent is talent.....looks may matter on reality TV, but talent and good music is just what it is.

  • @SkynyrdTim im 14 and listen to the oldies from 50,60,70,80 and 90's more often than rap, rock and other songs. No matter janis joplin will be one of my idols :)

  • This song blows, Janis Joplin blows, Bobby McGee blows, and hippie music blows. I mean good god, Janis Joplin only lived til she was 27 and she looks and sounds like she was fucking 70! She has to be the ugliest female performer to have ever lived, and her voice sounds like a goddamn street cat in a fight.

  • @ssmith5342 you suck mother fucker you don't respect real music you must be some kind of dumb fuck can tell you don't deserve to be able to listen to the 80's music. This woman had a hard life and you don't know any thing about her to say a fucking word so go pay with your self you little prick

  • @LorettaSnelling Haha! I don't deserve to be able to listen to the 80's music? You mean music of the 80 year-old look alike? Good, I don't want to "deserve" to listen to this crap. God, I'm asking, please make it stop. Stop playing this shit all over the place. And I know enough about her to know that she sucks. What, should all singers who have a hard life be given sympathy fans?

  • @ssmith5342 NO ONE IS HERE OUT OF SYMPATHY - WE R HERE BECAUSE HER MUSIC WAS GREAT, IT HAD MEANING AND EMOTION AND SOUL....YOU GO TO THE MUSIC WHATEVER THAT IS.. THE WIGGLES, BARNEY?? LEAVE US ADULTS TO THE BEST SOMETHING U WILL NEVER OBVIOUSLY UNDERSTAND

  • @LorettaSnelling ssmith probably listens to dubstep and justin timberlake and calls it REAL music, if anything, I feel sorry for people who never got to experience the heart music used to have. They should have your pity, not your hate, we cant change their minds with hate. We just have to stay true to what we know is real soul and hope that they will want a little when they see how good it makes us feel.

  • @ShadesOfMyEternity Haha, nice try. Who the fuck is dubstep? Some pussy band that you listen to. I'm actually surprised you don't like Justin Timberlake. He plays the same type of shit as Janis Joplin.

  • @ssmith5342 I'm sorry your mother didn't love you, or daddy beat you, or your prissy rich bitch poodle died or whatever it is that makes you feel like you need to continue the ageless tradition of trolls like yourself and spread misery to all who will waste their time in trying to help you understand that everything you seem to believe to be fact is merely subjective. It doesn't matter what you think, YOU are invisible, and Janis is immortal through the music you are so eager to call shit.

  • @ShadesOfMyEternity So if I am invisible, then how come you replied? Apparently I am not as invisible as you think. Also one doesn't need to have been beaten by their parent to think Janis Joplin sucks. But listening to her crap voice too much makes you want to start beating people.

  • @ssmith5342, they are two entirely different people. The only difference is Janis had talent

  • @ShadesOfMyEternity the only thing I have to say here and it's not against you, I do not agree w/@ssmith5342, I have posted my feelings but I like Justin Timberlake, I love Janis, if u look at my playlists u will see, Krokus, to the ChiLites, Ozzy to Air Supply, Hell Donny Osmond and Dio...I am a LOVE OF ALL MUSIC..It just depends on my mood. but as I said, this is just a statement, nothing bad against u.. :)

  • @ssmith5342 did u just come to this vid to bash the song and the wonder of a great female ARTIST?? yes that is what she was! Can U sing the song? Are u famous for anything like this..when ur gone will the world remember ur name because of some great thing u did?? Hardly think so.. go to the music u enjoy and stop making an ass of urself..

  • @kazsocks So are you saying that being famous makes someone good at music? Wow, I imagine you are a huge fan of Justin Bieber then.

  • @ssmith5342 bieber not my style don't go 2 his vids&bash 2 his fans&no fame does not=music but being on a site just 2 degrade a person 4 who they were as if u r holier than Thou&ur word is gospel.Opinions r lke assholes&every1 has 1.Y do u insist on pushing ur likes&feelings on ppl that don't care?get BACK IN THE SADDLE AGAIN,Aerosmith,u kno them, their the BEST&be on ur way 2 enjoy ur Elmo music&leave us REAL music lovers 2 get OUR SATISFACTION Rolling Stones.u might kno them 2.good music

  • @ssmith5342 If you said that infront of me, you won't say Janis' name again! EVER!

  • @EmazImma Whoa, holy bad grammar, Batman. I am sorry, I couldn't hear you, all I heard was Wah, Wah, Wah, please don't insult my precious Janis Joplin. Her crap voice and ass for a face are I all I have, wah, waaaaaaaah!

  • @ssmith5342 You should go back to jerking off ... And playing WoW in your mama's basement...

  • @ShroomMasta2009 Yeah, coming from someone whose name is ShroomMasta. You sound like the one who jerks off in his mom's basement. What the fuck is WoW? I suppose only you would know.

  • this video gives me chills

  • you are obviously not of the music kind so kindly f offf......

  • Hers is the best rendering by far She made a rock classic out of a country one..Cant someone find an authentic live version of her doing this song. This clip is her freaking out over something else, she's not singing Bobby Mcgee.

  • from the album, PEARL

  • pearl

  • one of the greatest songs ever hands down

  • Sister Janis "owns" this song written by Kris Kristoffersen. Only a vocalist with a ton of soul and heartache should every attempt to sing this song. Aretha Franklin is an artist who comes to mind that can do justice to this performance.

  • @Dexterluckful Please feel free to OD then.

  • @Dexterluckful Not worth it to join your company.

  • What a lucky guy Bobby Mc Gee was!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Magnifique, comme toutes d'ailleurs, Janis <3

  • cool song shes sang it so great

  • Patti Smith is releasing an 18-track career-spanning collection called “Outside Society” on 8/23. She is such a rock legend and a great person. Make sure you check it out; it’s definitely worth your time.

  • Queen of the constipation sound. Most people sound like that before they take ex-lax.

  • @Makater77 stfu

  • Amazing vocals, love ya guts Janis xxxx

  • This woman could definitely sing the blues. She seemed like she had some hard times in life.

  • This video was just added to a music playlist at JustPlay.fm

  • No one in this universe...till the end of time...could sing this song like Janis!

  • janis, rest in peace.i was in san jose when i heard you pased away.it was a very sad day.

  • The more drugs these artists do, they better they sound. Go figure.

  • 151 dislikes, go figure. A whole bunch of kids that don't understand music.

  • BIG BROTHER & THE HOLDING COMPANY...CHEAP THRILLS.

    I WORE THE ALBUM OUT.

  • "If I hold back, I'm no good. I'm no good. I'd rather be good sometimes, than holding back all the time."

    - Janis Joplin

  • @fredsassy5 That's what happened to musicians. It's all image and no emotion... That's a great quote.

  • grande janis....nell olimpo degli artisti....con jim kurt rino amy........

  • Good song, but she could have done it better without the booze and drugs. She had a great voice and spirit, but no brain cell left unfried.

  • @uniquetool Well,Im sure she appreciates the advice.

Maybe next time she'll try it your way.

  • Her voice is much more feminine on this song, well for 99% of it =)

  • fuckn awesome !!!!

  • Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose

  • He check out me singing this song. It's the first time I posted myself singing and I messed up a couple times. I've never posted myself singing before. If I get some good reviews maybe I'll start posting regularly! Tell me what you think. (be gentle, I don't usually do this) Just click my name and look through my videos.

  • Still prefer Kris Kristofferson's version...

  • @microengineer I love Kris too, he wrote this song, but you have to know. He wrote this song about janis. youtube it

  • What's the 2nd verse? I'm not really sure.

  • A bunch of us went nuts in the 90s on Prodigy in a NICE SAFE adult chat room, parents mostly and I sent myJanis CD to a friend who made the best wavs we got to play while talking, adults like to have fun too and on did we love Janis.

  • At the **same time make you want to scream the lyrics because there's a pain in your chest and you need to let it out and when you do you can smile as if the world is perfect for a few seconds. Janis is one of them.

  • There are those few artists that make songs that put you at unbelievable ease but atbthe

  • happy days

  • Impossible not to love her...she use her heart, soul...all soul...

  • Thumbs up if YAHOO! News brought you here!!!

  • Both Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix died in 1970. Some people like Janis, but, since I was born in the same state Jimi was born in, if I don't choose Jimi, I might wind up Skinless In Seattle. Personally, I think Jimi inspired more guitarists in the biz than Janis did singers, but hey, that's just me.

  • I think Janis inspired all of them- if it weren't for her chutzpah, female singers would still be doing The Supremes kind of stuff. As far as the comment below about her raspy voice, go back to some of Janis' earlier recordings. She had a pure sweet voice that got raspy due to drugs, smoky venues and poor quality sound systems.

  • @kja427

yeah Hendrix inspired many guitarists, but you have to remember that Bob Dylan inspired Hendrix, Jimi even outright copied him in the beginning. Janis had her heroes but that was all her up there.

  • @poeticreject...Nope Tracey Ullman is very much alive and kicking just googled her :))

  • Ouvir essa mina é indiscritivel.

  • If you stoop so low to drop down to the levels of heroin, well, play with fire, get burned. she sure did get burned.

  • Its to sad that she had to have a heroine overdose :'(

  • If they ever did a film about Janis I think Tracey Ullman should play her....the resemblence is uncanny :D... but saying that I don't know how Tracey looks these days? Loved Janis voice I think I sing a bit like her HEHE..:D

  • @MsMimilala

I thought Tracey Ullman died. hmm

  • Steven Tyler said in his book that he based his singing style on Janis Joplin

  • Amazing. I hear a little bit of robert plant in her voice. I wonder if he wasnt inspired a little bit by her..?

  • grew up with janis' version and love it but it was written as a straight country song and i love other versions as well..it's a song many can do well.

  • What a legend, only recently heard Janice for d first time, love it all, wish she was still around t see her sing live ;)

  • I heard another female artist remake this, who was it? well I thought she sang it quite well, but it lacked the soul, look at janis up there, she sang it she felt it she smacked it in your face. if only she could have dealt with the heartbreak of someone throwing it back. she begged her audience for understanding she pleaded and most understood, but it only took a few evil mothers to kill the legend. I guess Im going to have to wait to hear what kind of Angelic music she creates from heaven

  • @poeticreject p!nk has a version out that's pretty good....maybe it was her?

  • @poeticreject-- The other artist that re-did this ong was Pink. Others have done it through the years so I don' know if that's the one your thinking of... I'm saying that because when I listened to Pink on youtube, it's the best re-do, but nobody could do it as good as Janis!

  • @lmlesisko This song requires soul, Pink has no soul.

  • @Robbob9933 I think if Janis was here, she would be proud of Pink's rendition. It wasn't an attempt to top Janis, it was a tribute to the songwriter. Pink has the only voice in music today that is close to the raspiness Janis had. Not a huge Pink fan, but I give credit where it is do. Pink is passionate about her music.

  • @LoyalLthrNek Nope, can't give credit if I feel like puking after 30 seconds. As I said in another post, Pink has no soul. Her image is not her's but rather manufactured my middle aged white guys running the lables. If Janis were around today, she would likely bitch slap every female artist starting with pretentious trash acts like Pink and Britany.

  • @poeticreject -- Pink re-did this song the best out of anyone else! It's been re-done several times, so I'm not sure if that's who your talking about. I'm saying Pink, because my thoughts were the same when I heard her version. It's def not Janis tho! She did it the best!

  • @poeticreject For too many of the greats from the 60s and 70s careers were like the life cycle of a red giant star. They careers produced spectacular results but their passion burned out their fuel way to fast to be sustainable. Thankfully the product of their careers continue to shine brightly and out-shine current lesser acts.

  • @poeticreject - It was probably Pink. I thought she did a great job but I do enjoy Janis's version better. I also enjoy the original by Kris Kristofferson but Janis's is my favorite.

  • @poeticreject jennifer love hewitt :)

  • @poeticreject: I don't know who you're thinking of, but Kendel Carson had the temerity to cover Mercedes Benz - and got away with it!

  • @poeticreject I'm pretty sure it was Pink. She did a good job singing this (not like Janis, but a good second!).

  • @poeticreject maybe you heard pink singing it i once heard her singing it i think it is here somewhere on youtube. or it was some other song of janis that pink sang.

    Greetings Sindrassa

  • @Sindrassa yes it was this song. i thought she did a pretty good job on it

  • @poeticreject pink:))

  • @poeticreject Joanie Baez did it, I think it's on Youtube.

  • @blortner

joan Baez did Bobbie Mcgee? wow that seems far from her persona

  • @poeticreject

it was Pink who sang this

  • @aggiedel yes, jennifer love hewitt also did a cover. its pretty good actually

  • @poeticreject Pink done a version

  • @poeticreject Pink did a cover of this song and Jennifer Love Hewitt too!

At least those are the ones I've heard! :D

  • @poeticreject There were soooo many people who redid bobby mcgee but a couple of my personal favorites are Pink, Joss Stone, and, believe it or not, Jennifer Love Hewitt did an awesome acoustic version.

  • Thanks to my father I grew with the songs of Janis! It is a big artist!!!! Regrettably she is not enough known in France!

    RIP Janis <3

  • My mother used to sing this to me for a lullaby. Very cool.

  • Rest in peace Dear Janis, life ain't the same without you !!

  • yes

  • I'd like to find the soulless fucks who dislikes this and punch then in the throat!!!!

  • @cjgarrand78 Heavy metal rockers no doubt. They just don't get it.

    Hav
