Did you spray paint the back cargo windows from the outside or inside? What kind of paint? I'm have windows on my van and I don't like people looking in my living quarters, any suggestions?
this was a rental in 2007, like many of ya said and were right , we couldnt afford it. I guess I repeated big house so often because it was the biggest one i ever had. To answer the ,why the house and live in a van question. We were losing the house and the van was a probably alternative.Duh ? I got a lot of funny post from you all and enjoyed them very much
Your large house is not a luxury friend. You can't afford to properly light it and heat it, and you don't even need all the rooms. It is an expense. Someone who's lived in a car/van should know better.
U are a self contradicting jackass. U yourself seem very depressed with the idea of moving back in the van. Why else would u write ....."At the end of single parenthood,, u can retire in gutter...".
Life can play some cruel jokes but then you never know what God has in store for you in the future? You raised your children & now it's time for you to start your life over. Have hope because in life that is what we all have to depend on. (Once you hit bottom there is only one way to go is up!)
Man you have to change your perspective. You are very negative. You have a daughter who loves you and has stayed with you. That house must have had mega taxes and required lots of maintenance. You are free of all that. You have demonstrated your intelligence and resourcefulness on a daily basis by adapting to this alternative living style. If you truly don't enjoy it, change it.
You are obviously a smart guy. Make your lifestyle the way you want it.
The financially successful are the least adept at self sufficiency. Once you've lived in your car or van- or homeless, you don't value working so hard for a system just so other people with a trust fund never have to do anything useful or contribute to society. That's hardly "too depressed to be successful" It's more enlightenment and realization what a lie the concept of success is.
you have your health, people come to this country and can't believe poor Americans, they take advantage of the freedom, schools, and they never give up,lets do the same, work hard and get ahead.
its sorta different living in a car,,,, some semis have twin sized beds in them. cars have little room. vans like this in the movie are big but seriously
look up my friend just alway remember your still got a future to start building again ,,, un like some has no more cause their dead or dying in someparts of the world
20k. I pretty much hustle everyday since I was recently let go from my job.... and everytime I think of the
main reason I moved to CA for, makes me sick. Dont regret anything that Ive done but I really wanna get out
from this situation asap.
its funny to see how u hear EVERYDAY how this hollywood stars blow up their money so easily, and I just think to myself...gosh, if I could just have a piece of that so I could go back home and start a new...
Ive been living in my van for the past 14 months now out here in LA. Im 23 and its not the easiest thing to do. My van has a major leak problem, so everytime it rains its like hell... Im in mad debt so I had to give up the room I was renting for 550 bux a month so I could some how save up money to lower my debt. It takes a lot of guts to do it. I wish I could just move back home in the East Coast w my family (btw
they have no clue about any of this) but I dont wanna go back home ....
I will probably be in this situation in 12 months or less. Trying to learn what I can before it comes. Thanks for posting your life experiences. I'm a family man too, US Military veteran too.
Lost most of everything I had between Oct 2008 to April 2009.
Staying with Relatives for now, trying to get things going again.
Van living is in the near future, not *if* but *when*
This will seem like a stupid question...but, how exactly did you have your power supply hooked up? What did you use and how did you hook it up? I'm asking because I will be living in my van for 4 months (hopefully). I am trying to prepare as much as possible. I don't want to mess up the battery on the van by using it too much...but I know nothing about portable powersouces.
hi all, its moemoe , 06-13-09 , its really been long time ,, sorry to say i spent three additional years in this horrible van...sorrier to say my youngest daughter spent them here also,,, shes nineteen now,,, shes been in college and about to graduate ,, hard too believe,,she graduates in 3 months,, she could have left anytime but the loyal little shitpot has stuck it out every inch of the way,,, we gotlucky and adapted, I assure many out there do not,,, thx for the compassionate comments, moe
cdltpx favorites= home built from rammed earth, earth filled bags, cord wood home, monolithic dome home, very small houses, camping, solar powered off grid homes, solar water heaters, solar ovens yes they really cook, cook eggs 30 seconds with parabolic mirror or lenz, make shelter from what you can scrounge, catching fish, almost any survival skill you might need.If you have a home with land build an alternative building and fill it with off grid tech self contained with h2o shower solar radiotv
That really sucks, It looks like this was posted a while ago, and I hope things have gotten better for you since then.
I'm considering a similar lifestyle for myself while I am away at college, as I don't really have that much money. I know where you come from on this. (rather, I will in about a year)
On that note though, there are some propane heaters that can operate indoors, "Mr. heater" is one brand, and I hear they are rather safe to operate inside. I hope you are doing OK.
All these are in my favorites. Invest in solar power solar hot water heater, solar oven water storage hammock tent 12v electric blanket 12v fan led lights learn battery care alcohol stove. Have a laptop or an Ifon if you get an ifon it can access internet without paying at&t the monthly charge if you can get to a wifi hotspot. I tried to take pix without the simm and it would not allow it everything else functions mail maps stocks weather. North American22 revolver a must.
Yeah that really sucks.Sorry you have to do this.I lived in vans and cars with my kids for years,we did it for various reasons and were with other folk living on the road at times, survival skills are now honed bit better. When you manage to do what you've done in life you can manage anything and I hope something really good happens for you.I worry about my life as a single-parent with no kids at home anymore, the future, but we haven't got much as it is and our house is rented and damp.Good luck.
Anytime there is a mirror in each room , its to give the appearance of a big home in small rooms,,normally !

That house isn't even that big... the rooms are all small and chopped up and everything is really outdated.
