im so happy. i just made a CAW of gan ning and i got really close to the perfect weapon. Medium weight with att, mus, fill, charge, and luck. If luck was speed i would've been extatic. and i got it first try so i didn't have to redo the stage :D

@hamahama23ify Can you try him with heavy weapon. I don't know how to set up Internal Time Trick. I think you should give him internal time trick heavy weapon with ATK, SPD, CHARGE, MUS. He can kill playable officers in one musou w/ o Ice. I think Gan Ning is not an impressive freezer. C3 is a good method of filling. Dragon Arm is a must for safe C3 execution. C3 has long reach and high height. If everything is in front of him, C3 should be safe.

@davidchen128 officer killing includes multiples, crowd clearing isnt a big deal as the goal in this game as well as in wars is to kill enemy commanders (neat how in this game killing officers will also leave peons defenseless and harmless, easy targets?). anyways, whoever can do this the most efficient will be ranked higher in this tier, good news is after rewatching i think if ganning does come up w/ a way to kill playables in one musou he'll get a raise, as this vid was done w/ no fill bonus.

Also, even if there are no soldiers, he does not need to use musou. He can use C5 to buffed officers. Then use 5 normal moves endlessly. Defeating Lu Bu in Struggle for the Book must use C5 and then endless combo. Gan Ning is my favorite character because DW3 is the first DW games I played. Since Gan Ning is the #1 who is way better than Cao Cao the #2 in DW3, I admire him. His musou is unique and strong since DW3

You are meaning DW5 XL, with full weapon customization, and Chaos Mode?

You are right that Zhuge Liang and Lu Bu are better than Gan Ning and Ling Tong, but they aren't the only characters that are better. Also, if you ban horse combat, Ma Chao isn't really better than Gan Ning, but rather equal.

I'm resuming the Tier List, and the top few tiers are pretty much set, and I have videos of most of them.

Have a look at Pang De's for starters

Ignoring all the details, Pang De has a fairly consistent musou filling method, and a Musou that will kill even playable officers in one Musou. Against all these stronger opponents and enemy commanders, Pang De has a clear edge over Gan Ning. Besides Pang De, there are plenty of other characters that have a stronger offense than Gan Ning - Zuo Ci, Sun Jian, Liu Bei, Yuan Shao, Zhang Liao, Lu Meng.

@DW5chaosmodeguide I agree that Zuo Ci can be better than Gan Ning because of good filling ability(C4) KO rate, yet the other characters you mentioned has a large gap of KO rate between Gan Ning and them. Lu Meng and Sun Jian can kill playable officers in a musou, yet they have filling issues, so they are not as good. I agree that they can have stronger offenses, but their filling ability and safety and KO rate is not as good. Pang De's C6 is consistent and safe at filling.

A note on KO rate - It has been agreed in the Tier List community that Crowd Clearing is given much less credit than Officer Killing ability. What's typically agreed is 80% Officers and 20% Crowds. So for an overall Tier List, we make two Tier List and combine them with a bit of math. However....you might note that it is less professional as the method for determining this is very subjective.

Give me time, I will come up with a more numeric way of justifying this in the future

Maybe it's better to put 70% at Officer Killing and 30% at Crowd Clearing. Taishi Ci can kill very fast, but he is extremely weak at crowd clearing. I would consider Meng Huo is better than Taishi Ci even though Meng Huo is the weakest at officer killing.

I don't think it's a good argument to say Gan Ning's fill is better just from the invincible C6. It's only invincible on the execution, and that's only a small part of his Musou filling method.

Let me know if you can consistently do more hits with Gan Ning's Musou than I can.

He can kill more than one buffed officer at the same time in Mt. Qi with Musou Rage w/ ease. When defeating DD Sima Yi in Mt. Qi, Gan Ning can use C5 and endless juggle. The other characters have to procrastinate until musou is filled, unless they equip fire orb.

5) and 6) If you want to fill with perfect defense w/ Zhou Tai, C1 spamming will be slow. Filling with C3 is risky unless using Dragon Arm. Gan Ning's C6 fills safer than Zhou Tai's C3. If you want to use true musou and do 1-musou offense and longer reach, Dragon Arm can not be used. W/ Dragon arm and wind scroll, he can not equip way of musou. To do a one-musou offense, he must use Fire orb and use C3 to burn the officer and apply to normal musou.

8) Zhou Tai's musou can be the weakest, so he will struggle against weapons, such as jugglernauts. Gan Ning is the best at killing weapons since this will allow his every single attack hit successfully, and his musou frequency is way higher than Zhou Tai, and his individual strike is about 6x stronger than Zhou Tai. Gan Ning can kill castle weapons in 5-star chaos mode in one musou, having 800 HP. We can see it at Bai Di castle(Wu).

Sorry Guide, 7th point is that spamming Gan Ning's C5 is tricky, but the reach is incredible. Gan Ning's 4th attack has large position movement. Allowing him to make his C5 hit the back of the officers. 4th point is even if no 2x attack and musou rage, Gan Ning can kill any commanders in one musou if frozen up against the wall even using light weapon. 5th point, Zhou Tai's C1 is invincible, but he has no charge attack which has large areas.

6) Zhou Tai needs Fire Orb to kill officer with normal musou if you want him to have perfect def and longer reach to fill safer. Gan Ning can do a one-musou offense without freezing the officer, 2-run-through, consistently.

7) Gan Ning is better at 1 vs 1 because after using C5 burning the officer, he can use his normal attack to juggle endlessly. Zhou Tai is pretty good on Mt. Qi, but not as good as Gan Ning because he can spam C5 consistently and safely, especially facing multi-officer.

5) ehh...if you want to get REALLY technical, Zhou Tai is a safer filler, because he is one of the only three characters in the game that has an invincible C1. The Dragon Arms can make this move very abusable for near perfect defense. On the other hand, Gan Ning can always get shot if there are lots of archer towers or groups surrounding him. One good application of this is trying to charge into crowds outside of Mai Castle without first getting rid of archers.

6) Hmmm if you give Zhou Tai the Way of Musou instead, he can rely on his True Musou to do a quick KO. Gan Ning should be considered to have a consistent musou offense, at least for tier list comparison purposes, but ideally, because of obstacles or walls, sometimes it may be tough to connect his musou consistently. But again....this is another very minor difference....probably not useful for drawing meaningful conclusions between the two characters

1) Gan Ning has better filling ability than Zhou Tai.

2) Gan Ning can kill officers faster. Faster offense.

3) Gan Ning has way higher KO rate.

4) Any officers, even commanders, are frozen beside the wall, Gan Ning can kill in one musou in a very short amount of time, even he uses light weapon (4th weapon).

5) Gan Ning can fill safer because Zhou Tai's C3 is not consistently safe, unless he uses Dragon Arm.

I'm currently playing DW5XL, so naturally it has the menu of about 20 battles, starting with the Struggle for the Book & ending with the Nan Zhong battle. @TonyUSATony Nah, it'll give you a whole new menu which is the same as Free Mode menu from DW5. You just load the disc in and XL will load all the stages so that you can play them in XL. What's nice with this is that you can play these Free Mode stages with XL items and changed game mechanics.

I stopped playing for a few years, and forgot about that feature, and also forgot that it works in that way. Also, I've heard that in DW5XL an enemy officer can be slain in just one hit. Like I said, I'm just a shmuck still learning these older games, so I haven't really found the talent to do that. It would really help me in getting Ma Chao's 4th weapon.

It still seems logical to have Lu Meng in the same tier as Sun Jian because they are completely of the same type, but just that Lu Meng is slightly inferior in a lot of scenarios.

And if Gan Ning has just 60% chance in killing playables in one musou, but has pretty perfect musou filling consistency, and on the other hand, Lu Meng kills playables in one musou at 100% but gets his musou filling fucked up if crowds get too big.....

I would assume doing that would give an innaccurate result, possibly due to base stat differences (SW1 had customisable CAW stats, not sure if you can in DW5).

The reason he used an edit character was because in Destiny mode, you can receive a third weapon from the officer you choose to serve under.

But this 3rd weapon will have five slots for attributes instead of the usual four you can find maximum. So he can reset the last mission in that mode until he gets a weapon with stats he needs.

Sort of. The edit characters start off with default stats indicated by either the moveset default (character made in Edit Mode), or by the resulting stats when you finish serving a whole term (Character made in Destiny Mode).

So after a while, a CAW's stats can be equal to, or with the right weapon, greater than the original Officer's abilities. So it will let you create an optimized version of an officers moveset.

Save for the less power due to not being a fourth but that's negligible damage.

Green Scroll increases your attack but also decreases your defense.

Equipping Dragons Arms will make you able to jump during your attack.

For this character yes, I went through Destiny Mode to make this character and to get that 5 slotted 3rd weapon. I did this for a lot of movesets. Half the time though, I use the Internal Time Trick. I dont think this passes as a cheat really.

well..like for my ps2 version have 7 characters maxed.like im not saying its not possible to max every character out but i would take a really long time..and thats why im not getting the last acheivment for DW6

That achievement isn't too bad really. Just try to stick with one character per day.
