Engine breaksdown? That would only happen if u didnt look after it. The same engine in the rx7 maybe whT they means are the carbon tips need replacing after so many thouands of miles but they have fixed this in the newer rx8 so no problems. Just buy one. You wont regret it. Im gna get one too jut gotta sell my smart roadster :)

as much as i love the rotory engine, its extremely un reliable, the engines usually blow around 40 to 80k miles and if not, prepare yourself lol.

If an engine had a lifespan of 3-4 years, there would be no market for them because nobody would want an expensive ride that they'd have to do some serious work to in the future. I'm guessing that if you treat these things right (frequent oil changes, 94 octane gas, etc.) they should last quite a while. I've never owned a rotary engine, so all of this is just speculation.

( 2009 r3) and after a while i didn't like it any more. it looks great on the road and drives great. the new 2009s mazda fixed allot of the problems. anyways the only reason why i didnt like the rx8 is because there are slow with not allot of modding you can do. but i would never talk shit about them :)

It has about 220k on it, but had some major repairs along the way. The engine is still quite powerful though, has a nice pull all throughout the rpms, but is terrible on gas.
