  • @specialsenna blablabla.....

  • @specialsenna right and wrong at the same time. Both drivers were on identical gearboxes, but Ayrton had - that much is true - more gearbox issues. I can recall a quote from John Barnard, who once said "after every race, we opened the transmissions. Senna's always was completeley worn out, whereas Prost's was as good as new." Alain was more gentle on the car, including shifting, braking, especially regarding tyre wear. Ayrton was quicker over one lap, Alain was quicker over the full distance.

  • Prost's tyres were three laps younger, and he waited for the moment Senna would fall victim to his own impatience. The more races from the Prost/Senna-era I watch on video, the more I am impressed by Alain's racing intelligence. If you look at sheer qualifying speed, Ayrton was unbeatable. But in the races, Alain taught him lesson after lesson. This was motorsport on the highest level!

  • That day Senna admitted Prost was unbeatable. Prost was simply faster and was even saving fuel. A pure professor lesson from wich Senna learned a lot. I saw the whole race on TV in 1988 and it was obvious that Prost was the hell of fast. And that move over Senna was tremendous to watch : for sure, big balls needed to do that ! BTW, I admire both Prost and Senna's driving styles, they were bests on their own.

  • 27manilo, I couldn't agree more. One of the greatest oppurtunistic moves most people will ever see. By the way, SpecialSenna, throughout that weekend Prost was always half a second faster than Senna. Senna only stayed ahead for so long because he was using full boost to stay ahead! - Hence why Senna dropped back completely late on to try and crawl round and not run out of fuel.

  • Fantastic overtaking by Prost over Senna, pity it has been forgotten and is not reported among the best passings in the last 20 years.
